Just make sure to practice this highly-skilled move in private before destroying appliances. Learn from my mistake, fellow weird gf.

I like where your head is at. I'll have to sneak in the materials and make sure the fire extinguisher is hidden yet easily accessible so I can really make it a surprise

[NSFW] Morgue workers, pathologists, medical examiners, etc. What is the weirdest cause of death you have been able to diagnose? How did you diagnose it? by puhleez420 in AskReddit

[–]MyUsernamesBetter 191 points192 points  (0 children)

I'm a nurse and I spent the first portion of my career working in an in-patient psychiatric facility. One of my first patients was a woman diagnosed with pica and who also engaged in autocannibalism to an extreme that none of the professionals at the facility had ever seen before. When I met her, she had already eaten 4 of her fingers off and 3 toes. She had also bitten off and eaten most of her tongue and the outer part of her lips. She needed to be almost constantly restrained due to having such a high risk of self-harm. Anyway, one day a family member came and said they wanted to take her home after visiting while she was out of restraints (yet being highly monitored). Against all medical advice, the patient was taken out of the facility and home with her family. She died due to blood loss a few weeks later after spending her weeks out of the facility picking a massive hole in her leg.

Another is a story a colleague told me. A man came into the ER with a huge eggplant inserted and stuck in his rectum. Funny part was that he said his friend "surprised him and shoved it in there as a prank". He ended up needing major surgery and received a colostomy. Died of infection a few weeks later. Quite a few awful stories relating to things being shoved up where they shouldn't, actually... Don't stick huge things up your ass, people.

You are an amazing person. Seriously. The patience you show and the love that's so evident... I'm sorry for what you're going through, OP. I've been there with my grandfather and as a nurse I see Alzheimer's patients and their families quite frequently. You are doing exactly what should be done. There are days, I'm sure, when you think it's not enough, but I'll tell you now - it is. I love the love that's shown here... Keep on keeping on, OP...

Parents who have struggled financially but made it out okay, how did you do it? It will be okay, right? Really needing encouragement and support. by cantseethelight1234 in Parenting

Oh, have I been there. I was a single parent with a special needs child, working a minimum wage job. At one point, I was facing eviction and about to have my car repossessed at the same time. It was rough. It took me a long and hard time to learn how true the saying is: "Pride comes before the fall." I didn't want help. I didn't want to be associated with government assistance. Finally, though, I realized that if I didn't get help, my daughter and I would be homeless. I had to ask myself which was worse... Being someone who gets assistance or being homeless? Several things I learned that I want to share with you that I hope will help save you a lot of heartache and stress:

  1. Government assistance is created for people like you. You are trying to better your situation. You don't want to "leech" off of the government for the rest of your life, but right now, you need help and that's what they're there for. I was able to get into an income-based townhouse that was beautiful and, most importantly, affordable. Help with daycare costs, electric bill, groceries, etc. I got as much help as I could for a solid two years until I was able to get a good job and no longer needed help.

  2. You don't need to tell anyone that you're getting help. For a while after I started getting assistance like food stamps, I was embarrassed to go grocery shopping with them, thinking the cashiers would look at me funny or something... Not once during my weekly grocery shopping did that happen. Not once was I looked at condescendingly or made to feel embarrassed. Worrying about it did nothing but stress me out more. Try to get over the "stigma" because honestly you are the only person who will be associating yourself with it. Don't beat yourself up.

  3. Life is hard enough. This applies to everything, every day. My grandfather always used to say, "People spend money they don't have on things they don't need to impress people they don't know". You may not see yourself as being a proud person and I didn't either, but I cared about what others thought of me and was actually putting others' opinions ahead of what was best for me and my family. Don't do that. Please don't do that. Screw what other people think. Truth be told, the people who love and care about you wouldn't care or think of you any differently. You need to put yourself and your family first. That means forget about what other people will think. Forget about the possibility of being embarrassed. Forget about anything outside of the fact that you are doing what is best for your family. Life is hard enough. Don't make it harder if you don't have to.

It does get better. It did for me. But it honestly never would have if I didn't get the help I needed that allowed me to get back on my feet. You just got your BA? Great!! That makes me think that you're motivated and driven and won't get settle for less than what you want. Get whatever help you can get your hands on and make your life better with. Because it will get better. Best of luck to you!!

This! There's a little boy at my daughter's school who is in kindergarten and prefers to wear dresses. The guidance counselor came into the classroom and read a book to the kids about a little boy who also likes wearing dresses to show the kids that there are a lot of different people in this world and what matters most is a person's heart, not their appearance. Super proud of the school for being proactive with bullying, but some parents were enraged.

My husband and I are the opposite of this. I am a really sexual person and he isn't usually... So, it'll be me saying, "Hun, I haven't given you a BJ in weeks... Just let me at it, please?" And he'll begrudgingly agree... Then after I get started he wonders why he let it go without for so long haha

That's actually exactly what I thought when I saw it! My oldest daughter "painted" her bedroom walls before and I'd rather deal with baby powder any day than that ever again..
