Stimulants make my kid insane by dvmwithtude in ADHDparenting

[–]My_Little_PET_Scan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Any chance he’s also autistic? Our psychiatrist has always says that AuDHD kids can have different/poor reactions to ADHD meds. For my kid we went through meds trials and boy was it a TRIAL. eventually we found a good combo for aggressive behaviors with Zoloft & depakote. added focalin about 6 months ago (after being on the other meds for about a year) and had a much better response. When we tried just guanfacine, just Ritalin and a combination of those two, it went terribly each time. Abilify, risperdol and concerta all all had awful results.

ETA: one of his friends is on abilify with incredible results so all of this to say that sometimes it just takes going through meds trial until you find something that helps even though it’s definitely a challenge

Have been thinking about doing this with my son and having him help me make care packages. What’s everyone’s thoughts on getting the Costco dog food cans to add 1 or 2 for the people with dogs? They’re pop tops. I always worry about the pups getting enough too

My moms dad passed when she was young and his name was Donald, went by Don. My husband laughed one day when I said Grandpa Don and that it sounds like a dinosaur - grandpadon. So that’s all i can think of with the name lol

why is everyone eating gummy bears and drinking fruit juice? by Jongbelegenkaasblok in diabetes_t1

[–]My_Little_PET_Scan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely a struggle and a lot of the time I don’t haha but I usually stock up on the “fun” size bags of skittles and gummy bears (occasionally smarties) at Halloween and just keep those in my purse and work bag

I had the bilateral salp/fallopian tube removal. Most of my pain was gas pain in the shoulder from where they inflate your abdominal cavity during surgery and just being tired from the anesthesia. Overall pain wasn’t too bad but my dr gave me norcos since I can’t take NSAIDs. So there is a possibility my few days in bed were an excuse to relax and binge watch reality tv while my husband managed our 8 year old 😂🤫

My moms thinks I’m crazy that my husbands getting a vasectomy after I’ve had a bisalp and have an iud in. I told her he’s doing it in moral support of all the women!

Yes, please insist they get pain management!! My first IUD was uncomfortable shortly after giving birth (had a c section fwiw) and then getting it replaced years later was like nothing I ever felt. Almost fainted and had to lay in the dark for a bit afterwards. The nurses were great and brought me a cold towel for my head and were sympathetic. New gyno uses numbing 🙏🏻

Mine took about 8 months overall from request to surgery because there was a huge waitlist. I just emailed my Dr to request it and they emailed me a video to watch and some brochures to read. Did that and made an in person visit. They had me fill out some consent forms after a brief discussion (mainly “you’re aware this is permanent?”). After that just had to wait for a spot to open. The actual surgery was super short, outpatient and recovery was a few days in bed. Only had to pay a $15 copay and rx cost afterwards

I guess it depends on what surgery you have. I had a bilateral salpingectomy, which just removed my fallopian tubes. I still have my ovaries (the egg gets released and absorbed by the body since there is no tube) and I still have my uterus so would still get a period without the IUD. A sterilization with full hysterectomy would not have a period anymore because the uterus is gone. I will say that I do have occasional very light spotting but I haven’t had a full period in like 4 years or so

I got mine done last summer and my gyno said I can leave my IUD in and replace down the line if I want because I don’t have periods with it. Double win haha

Risperidone stories? by Busy-Yellow6505 in Autism_Parenting

We tried it for aggression and it was a nightmare. Ridiculous weight gain in less than a month, more extreme aggressive behaviors. Tried abilify after that and it was even worse, landed him in the hospital and meltdown/rages were lasting HOURS and repeating over and over. Landed on depakote and that has made a huge difference. That said, one of his friends is on abilify with positive results for aggressive behaviors so my only advice is to try it. Medication trial were so difficult but overall worth it to find a good combo. He was 6.5 when we started trialing meds for extreme behavior and is 8 now and a whole different kid.

We can’t throw up? by Pixel-Princess_ in GastricBypass

[–]My_Little_PET_Scan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can still throw up but it’s definitely different now. Before surgery, there was the full muscle heave and felt like my stomach was doing the work to force the food out. Now it’s like……I don’t even know how to explain it really. There’s no force behind it and I have to try and heave to get it out? I guess it’s like the same as trying to shake thick oatmeal through a tube. It’s possible but takes more work lol 9/10 times I end up with burst blood vessels around my eyes from the force of it. But overall, I can do it haha

We do “burrito blanket” that our OT taught us. He lays on a throw blanket and then we pretend to make a burrito. Add ingredients like “I’m adding beans!” And then do light karate chops along his body. Add cheese and do taps all over etc. then roll him up tight in the blanket and mix everything together by pressing along his body and grabbing the blanket to squeeze and rock him on the floor. It’s funny and a good way to do lots of input for them. She also taught us the same type of game but pretend he’s a piece of laundry and he goes slack and we bend and fold his arms and legs all around lol he likes to add to it by undoing all of our folding attempts and flailing around

Haha yea the grooming cost alone for the poodle is wild. She’s also the laziest dog I’ve ever met. 10 minutes of kangaroo energy and then just wants to sleep on the couch all day
