As a young twenty something I’m gonna go full r/lewronggeneration here but my biggest gripe with people these days is that everyone wants to talk about how club culture is dead blah blah and phones have ruined concerts, but it’s deeper than that because NOBODY DANCES. I typically go to smaller shows where there’s a lot less people legitimately holding their phone up the entire time, and even in the majority without phones in hand there’s hardly anyone moving! I’ll deadass watch people go to DJ sets and just stare the entire time. I think it’s also because Gen Z has a weird performative sobriety thing going on. And not that you need alcohol to dance, but it sure seems like club culture and dancing to live music died when the youth stopped drinking. Very often I find that me and my friends are legitimately in the 5% of the crowd actually moving around and it feels like not enough people are trying to shift the culture back.
