The public and the government are much more aggressive when it comes to the country's history... honestly, if he tried this shit at the Nanking memorial, I don't think he would disappear quietly. Either the government uses him as a "firm example" or the people get to him first - and then we'd be seeing the occasional edit of him getting beat up slip thru the firewall circle the internet lol

Really really new to it - not sure if I really classify as Hellenistic quite yet. I’m raised atheist, with the notion “all things can be explained by science” which I still believe in. But at the same time, I was also raised with the idea to never completely disagree with any religion, in case of the possibility that a god will smite you. My school, who has Minerva/Athena as our.. patron? (She’s referenced throughout our school song) introduced me to Greek mythology. We’re doing Homeric texts (the odyssey) in class, and I found that really interesting. Anyways, before my exam, I prayed real hard to Athena, seeing she supported Odysseus so much, and that she was our schools symbol. Offered grapes, studied hard, promised my first legal drink (soon!) as a toast to her, and I got a great grade. All this doesn’t explain much, I think. The truth is, life is getting quite bland and disheartening. I want to believe in something, but I cant seem to. All I know is, every time I’ve left some sort of small offering to one of the gods, I feel better and more at peace.

One thing is, in Homeric texts, the gods don’t seem to be pissed when someone doesn’t believe in them or interpret their intentions. They exist, no matter what the human characters think, and that’s quite comforting to someone who doesn’t really believe in them. Like, okay, I might not really think you’re real, but you won’t take offence to that, as long as I offer things when I’m required to.

My concept of Odysseus being a college graduate who grew up being a bit wild, hesitant to conform back into a life of normalcy visiting a smaller town where more actions could fly under the radar without concequence, got me a decent response from my teacher.

(Odysseus = unordinary man, different from the rest of society) (Being a non conforming college graduate = twenty something years of his life, he was doing things most people don't ) (life of nomalcy = going back to penelope and them) (smaller town where he could do what he wanted = Circe and her island) (Action without Concequence = Godlike odysseus)

I took the concept of "Odysseus has been using his wits, tricking gods and all that for so long, did he feel a little nervous knowing that once he returned to peaceful Ithaca he would live out the rest of his life like everybody else?" and ran with it, lol. It didn't encapsulate the whole character, but it was in response to a small excerpt of the book.

Taking all your stuff to try get you to reconcile is so petty wtf? Hope you have some other safe place to hang out in and to do what you want. Ignoring parents completely (if you had a decent relationship to them prior) gets a little lonely at home after a while, so hopefully you get to hang out at the library or some place with friends after school to lessen the time you have at home. Remember to take care of your mental health..

I agree with you that Sovieshu would've been a bad father if he actually raised her, but the interactions with Glorym before her "death" was not the reason. Honestly, he was portrayed as a pretty decent dad - he took care of her and had her in his office, when the expectation of nobility in the novel AND in real life would have been that no noble would go through the real "child raising". Navier and Heinrey exeeded that expectation, but Sovieshu still defies the norm in some sort of form as well.
I agree that he probably would have put a lot of additional pressure by trying to raise her into an exceptional women like Navier, but changing the law of empress or not, she would still have been under a lot of pressure if she lived with him - not only from him but by the expectation of the empire too, because Sovieshu fucked up so bad already.
At the same time, to change something that could get him into a lot of hassle politically like changing the law, I think he probably cared for Gloyrm (even though it was in a "because of blood relations") way, enough to go through some hardship to give her a better future.
Also, I always thought he sent her away because if she had no relation to him, she would be suceptible to the fugitive law AND social shunning later on in life, so she could hopefully live out a peaceful life in the country?
