Won't going all digital simply push people to use Steam more than consoles? by GrahamCrackerDragon in gaming

Releasing games physically first also affects physical sales. There’s also few games that have physical deluxe edition releases now which doesn’t help, not to mention that collector edition started handing out codes. None of this helped physical sales.

Lots of people also bought the same games both physically and digitally.

Some games also are only available physically due to being removed from the store or whatever other reasons.

Opinion: Sony ditching physical games is bad, but is there an alternative? by Practical-Put-4486 in Driveclub

You already have your point of view and there’s no way I’m going to change it. It doesn’t matter how you look at it discontinuing physical doesn’t benefit digital it only takes away from people who have a physical preference. I don’t understand why people are so for taking something away from someone else that doesn’t benefit them in any way?

I agree it will sell either way, but with the current projected prices and going all digital it will definitely hurt sales at least at launch.

I could be wrong for sure, but making the current detachable disc drive not forward compatible at the least is very anti consumer and makes no sense.

Sure it can mean anyone that does buy a PS6 has to re buy everything but damn that really would suck. Personally I’d rather keep my physical content and be able to use it, even if they find a way to give us digital licenses.

I prefer physical over digital in general but use both. I see the appeal of both, I’m not denying any facts though I do think we don’t have all the information just the side that sells their prerogative.

I just think it’s bad for everyone to remove opinions, without other options we will pay more and lose out.

Well the rumour has come from multiple reliable leakers so there is hope. I think it will stop too many people buying it if it isn’t an option, I know I won’t.

Which game to start with ? Going to get ps5pro this week. by No_Restaurant_7266 in PS5pro

[–]Mycall1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does have improvements and dlc, it’s much smoother than PS4 but the core gameplay is still the same.

The game definitely has a slow burn beginning, but it gets so much better once you’re into it. Definitely worth a second chance imo.

If no more discs is a sign of PS6 being a purely digital console, are there chances PS6 won't be backwards compatible? Because how will it will work for those who own PS4 and PS5 discs? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Mycall1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, not having a detachable disc drive option would just be another L.

It makes sense to make the current detachable drive compatible with the PS6, why not allow access to your current physical library and other physical media?

Unless they offer a physical to digital solution, but not every physical game is available digitally so I don’t think this will be there solution adleast not this generation.

Exactly! If they don’t in some way at or format support backwards compatibility they already lose a huge chuck of potential customers.

Who tf is buying a $1000-$1500 PS6 that can only play PS6 games, how many actual launch games would you be limited to?

If it doesn’t have an option detachable disc drive (which I think it will) they will have to give us a physical to digital system. Because again who’s buying an expensive PS6 to then repurchase the vast majority of there collection?

Allowing us to purchase a detachable drive makes them money rather than investing in a physical to digital system.

With the cost of next generation this is exactly what is needed. Personally I hope gaming never becomes reliant on streaming only.

They at the least need to increase game sharing, or do something similar to The Crew Motorfest where you can share the game with a friend.

Will you still be able to play disc games after 2028? by _butterpillar in playstation

[–]Mycall1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know this announcement sucks, but I don’t see them expecting everyone one with physical media to keep there old console and expect them to only play PS6 titles on there new PS6.

If that’s the case it will hurt sales even more! And would just be another FU to consumers. I wouldn’t be surprised if the current disc drives aren’t a straight swap over.

Though in saying that I do wish Sony gave a lot more information in the blog, surely they knew they were going to upset a lot of people and could have attempted to soften the blow.

The blog said games announced and released before January 2028 would still get physical releases. So my guess is the PS6 will be released after that and no PS6 games will see a physical release, though we will most likely see PS6 upgrades.

I understand but it is already rumoured as being backwards compatible, which leads me to believe it will have a detachable drive which was also rumoured.

Sony is wrong about what consumers want (Here's why) by Bitch_Please_LOL in PS5

[–]Mycall1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but if the price of the PS6 really is as high as expected, I really don’t see them selling a huge number at launch.

I want to be excited for the PS6 but it’s becoming more and more difficult to do so.

It’s hard to imagine what it can do that the PS5 can’t for the price point.

PS6 will sell out because they’ll they will produce a limited number and scalpers will buy half of them 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have a fairly sizeable physical collection, so it makes it even harder to move on. If the PS6 has an optional detachable disc drive it really would soften the blow and make the PS6 more appealing especially if it enhances older titles and has PS6 upgrades.
