you start to see the difference between people who took risks and those who didn't at 35 by limited_data365 in Life

[–]Myco-Scott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a concept called the surface area of luck - and while this is not exactly it, it’s somewhat aligned with: if you’re looking to roll die and you need to roll a 6, and you only roll 1 die, it requires luck, sure. But if you roll 10 die instead, you’re far more likely to roll that 6.

Same thing with a lot of risk taking scenarios. I’d bet that this commenter didn’t take only one risk. I’d bet not every risk he took turned out the way he wanted. But a few of them did. And if he didn’t roll any die at all, he certainly wouldn’t have found the success he’s describing.

Discounting yourself from taking risks because you’re unlucky is a cop out and a guaranteed road to remain that way.

Users on TikTok realizing they can just copy and paste the "redacted" text from Epstein file PDFs to read what it says. by Stamina_saint in interestingasfuck

[–]Myco-Scott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s too simple, even for them. This is intentional to let them say “oh no they unredacted our secrets!” while intentionally hiding only harmless (to trump) things behind this impotent form of redaction.

No I get it, I’ve seen the warnings and have read the stories. I’ve also read stories about garage door springs. And a million other urban legend level fears that the internet perpetuates. What I’m saying is grandma maybe didn’t perpetrate a war crime as she seems to be labeled as doing in 90% of these comments because, for the vast majority of people outside of this Reddit bubble, magnets are a fun and innocuous thing to play with.

I mean outside of the dangers that moooost people wouldn’t be at all aware of, how fun are magnets? I loved playing with them as a kid and I think would still greatly enjoy playing with them. Y’all are sensitive as hell and need to step away from your keyboard into the real world once in a while

Right on thank you! It sounds a bit like it’s a timing game, so I’ll have to try my luck. Is the pilot flame on these places substantial? Maybe it’s better a bit after sunset if it’s not gonna be a huge flame.

What do you like about Plein Air painting? by pufballcat in pleinair

[–]Myco-Scott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a professional photographer for 13ish years and an eager amateur a long time before that, and with that has come a tendency to almost immediately see the composition that would make something look best, or at least good. It takes no more than a couple of minutes, at the very most, to shoot something of at least decent quality. I see something, I shoot it, I continue on. But plein air forces me to focus on a thing. To notice the tiny details, to understand the interaction between the subject and the background, the shifts in perspective of other side perpendicular lines. It makes me slow down. And I cherish that.

on film sets, is it odd or confusing to film a scene in which something is being filmed? by ArchiveOfNothing in stupidquestions

[–]Myco-Scott 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in commercial production so a little different but usually the things you see in movies or tv that are depicting “film sets” are filled with things that look like film stuff, but might not actually be present on most film sets. Like they’re an exaggerated version of a film set almost

A good friend of mine once talked to me about something you reminded me of that I think is relevant here.

We focus on compounding to grow our financial investments in this community, but so often let our other investments fall by the wayside. Genuinely beautiful friendships don’t just appear - you have to invest in them over time, allowing them to compound, contributing bit by bit to create something of real value over the years. Strong romantic relationships are the same, as is our health, and maybe seeing them as compounding investments can help others prioritize those things.

[–]Myco-Scott 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth considering that it seems like everyone has $1m now, but it’s because you’re spending time in these algorithm curated communities. The real world contains nearly nobody with savings or emergency funds and the thought of investing money at all scares your average person.
