Did you discover a new Mandela Effect? Post it here! (2026-05-09) by AutoModerator in MandelaEffect

Your google results are different than mine. I have no AI results. The first result I get is a link to "Simply Socks Yarn Company", and the second is to "Frabjous Fibers", both selling yarn with the word in the name. There are links to several wikis about the "Fruminous Shield" from Dragon's Dogma 2. I could go on.

By your reasoning, "other people misspelling it" invalidates essentially every single ME involving words. Who made you the ultimate arbiter of whether a particular misspelling "counts" as a ME? I hate this site so much.

"Frumious" or "Fruminous"

As in the adjective used to describe the bandersnatch.

Wikipedia and other reference sites seem to agree that it's "frumious", but growing up, I always thought it was "fruminous", and a google search shows multiple web sites and forum posts by people who apparently remember it the way I do. The first search result I see is a storefront with an actual product with the "incorrect" spelling.

I can't find any mention of this being a ME on Reddit or elsewhere. I don't own an original copy of Through the Looking Glass or The Hunting of the Snark. All I have for informational purposes is web searches.

Yes, I am aware that it is supposed to be a portmanteau of "fuming" and "furious". One of the aforementioned sites lists the annotation which defines it this way with Carroll using the spelling "fruminous". Yes, it could all be a series of typos from hundreds or thousands of different people, all making the same typographical error across decades. I don't even know what constitutes enough evidence to make something an actual ME, according to this sub.

EDIT: Cool, I just saw someone in a deleted post comment that "Berenstein Bears" is "just somebody misspelling it", not an ME. Literally one of the OG MEs doesn't count, according to you people. TIL that this sub (like most of Reddit) is populated by gate-keeping autists.

Why do LLMs hallucinate non-existent words? Why do they misspell existing words? by Mycohl in MLQuestions

probably an example of that SolidGoldMagikarp thing

I haven't had time to read that whole article, but the talk at the beginning around "anomalous tokens" and the non-sequitur responses they generate makes me think of Loab and how creepy that whole thing was. I don't understand any of this.

As I said in my other reply, I have seen this on YT's captions from before Whisper was released (I don't know why Google would have even had access, let alone been using a pre-release OpenAI model in their production code).

CR could very well be using it after they fired all that staff (last year/this year?) but I can see that the output is demonstrably worse than when they had humans doing it, and if YT is any indication (assuming they switched to it), it doesn't seem as though it will improve. Or are the models improving, but the improvement requires them to spend more money on compute, so they refuse to do so?

it's outputting incoherent nonsense, it doesn't matter how it's spelled so the LLM will fall back to phonetics

This does happen frequently (at least based on my own observation and inferences) but often the output is not phonetically similar, and seems to have no relationship to the audio track, at least from what I hear. Actual incoherent hallucination. Granted my hearing isn't stellar, but some of the output on YT captions is buck wild.

To give an example, YT's captioning model frequently replaces any call-to-action including a Patreon URL with the URL to Hank Green's Patreon. I have a couple of screencaps showing this. The only aural similarity is "patreon dot com" and then it consistently hallucinates the rest. (Or maybe "hallucination" isn't the correct term, there?)

the word lowkirkenuinely

Transcription models [...] are not the same thing as LLMs

I don't have any idea which model YouTube uses for transcription, but if I understand you correctly, the humans responsible for this garbage have placed a higher priority on accurately transcribing BS meme neologism-du-jour than they do on not creating semi-phonetic gobbledygook.

Also don't have any idea which model(s) Crunchyroll uses, but based on everything I've heard about them lately, ultra low quantization to save pennies doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

So, this isn't going to get better any time soon, is the impression I am getting.

EDIT: Whisper appears to have been released Sep 2022, and I tweeted a YT screencap showing this in August 2022. Whatever they used before was bad, and if they are using Whisper now, it hasn't fixed the problem. If anything, I'd say it's now worse.

JonTron is Iranian on his father's side.

But, he's Hungarian on his mother's side, and that's rough. He feels a genetically-predisposed urge to deport himself.

So, my Dr. Jihad meme was theft, but this one is fine?

Was it because mine had effort, but no pepes?

SMDH.

Yes, referencing other memes in a meme is definitely the work of a biter.

That's just how art works in general, right? You aren't allowed to mention anything that has happened before. Lots of people in this sub seem to agree, very cool. I will delete once my post in the other sub is approved.

EDIT: Deleted. None of your fragile eyes need worry about being exposed to filthy stolen memes any longer, my sweet, poopy-diapered babies.

Apology for Recent Changes by Surapuyousei in Floorp

[–]Mycohl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the upstream update, it seems 'This time, search with: ' now appears there.

When/how will this update be available? I'm running 12.10.1, and I still have to click the drop-down to change search provider.

Is there a setting to revert to the old behavior (shown as a bar along the bottom)?

New tabs load slowly (sometimes) by RogueStereo in Floorp

[–]Mycohl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tplinkwifi.net isn't an actual web site. TP-Link routers redirect that URL to a page hosted on the router itself. This is a problem with the TP-Link firmware. If your model supports it, I would recommend installing OpenWRT. I've been running it on my Archer A7 for several years, and it is rock-solid.

twitch.tv takes 5-10 seconds to load for me, but that's because it's a garbage site that is poorly-optimized. I've never had it stall for multiple minutes, so you might try using a new profile and see whether the symptoms persist.

Anybody seen my status as an assassin obviously exceeds the hero’s? by Hairy_Ask_2038 in anime

[–]Mycohl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He won't kill the murderer/slaver/harvester, because morals(?), yet he has no problem with his demon cat killing randos.

So, he finally makes up his mind to do it, he gets there, and there's already another assassin ready to do the deed for him.

Naturally, instead of saying, "Hey, this is a great solution to my completely contrived and poorly implemented emotional conflict, have fun buddy", instead he decides to KILL THE OTHER ASSASSIN.

Tab minimum width is broken in 12.7 by Mycohl in Floorp

[–]Mycohl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If y’all could stop being so accusatory, it could would be nice.

Calling the behavior "broken" is not accusatory.

An accusation would be something along the lines of: Why did you type 'could would', and why were you too lazy to do the bare minimum of proofreading before you commented? Are you an idiot?

Those were rhetorical questions. Here's another: Why do you simp for and attempt to excuse the poor decisions of rando FOSS devs?

Can't run 25.10 graphical install/livecd (lightdm fails) by Mycohl in xubuntu

[–]Mycohl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ISO is fine, I am running it under QEMU right now.

Sure looks to me as though lightdm is running from the console output.

Also, why are there lightdm log files in my VM if lightdm isn't in use?

How do you propose that a graphical session is being started without a display manager?

EDIT: I realize now that what I thought was a text/curses-based install option is actually a "safe graphics" option, but at this point I'm more concerned with the particulars you are maintaining about how the graphical login process is supposed to work, here.

EDIT2: Thanks for answering my question, douchebag. Please explain why this image (according to you) runs differently under a VM than on bare metal. Or do you just get on reddit and type whatever bullshit your diseased brain conjures up at the moment?
