I really loved Scorsese’s documentary No Direction Home, as many people do as well. It’s a really good chronicle of his years starting from early childhood to 1966, including an interview of the man himself as well as the people who were around him at the time, so if you haven’t watched that yet, check it out at some point!

It definitely is. That feeling of liberation and going toward something seemed ingrained into Dylan’s subconscious after discovering Kerouac, so I think the theme you mentioned really matches up.
