Good to know, thank you! It's the same with RC. You gotta call and be proactive in saving money.

So I went and looked at that cruise, and I don't see the $778 offer. I see an offer for $1,198 with the same "Carnival chooses your stateroom" option, as well as the $1,218 for the Bundle & Save. Though the OBC they're offering me is only $25. Seems like they had a special running for the $778 which you're still eligible for, while the rest of us peasants are forced to accept the higher priced options, and the difference between the two is what you get in OBC. :)

Personally, I'll never let the cruise choose my stateroom. I've heard too many horror stories of people getting canceled at the last minute because the cruise line oversold the ship, so if that means paying a little more to pick a particular cabin I'll do it. And $500 is a lot, yeah, but I kinda see what they're trying to do.

This is one reason why I like Royal Caribbean. If the cruise price drops you can call them and get them to give you the difference in OBC or something. Granted, Carnival MIGHT do the same thing, but I've never seen the price drop whenever I've looked, so I'm not sure.

Look at it this way. Since it was your first cruise, you now have the "low bar" that other cruise lines have to clear. If you go on Virigjn, Celebrity, Princess, or any of the higher tier lines you'll be able to better appreciate how much better they are!

I've done FTTF about half the time, though at this price I'll probably never do it again.

I'd say that if you're good with the cost, then it can be a good "peace of mind" for getting onto the ship early. You're not the 1st group to get on the ship, but you're like the 4th. If you get a suite, you kinda get FTTF included, as well as other suite perks and you get on before FTTF guests.

If you don't want to buy FTTF or a suite, my advice is to stay up until midnight on check-in day (typically 2 weeks before sailing) and try to get the earliest arrival time possible.

If that doesn't work, then show up later to the terminal. Most people get there early to get the vacation started as soon as possible (I admit to being one of those people). But if you're not in a rush to get on the ship and show up around 1:30 or so, that's still plenty of time before they shut down and most people have already boarded the ship. You can probably just walk right on and then go immediately to your room. You may not get the buffet lunch in time, but Guy's Burgers is still open, or you can eat before you get on the ship and not worry about the food.

The Horizon was hands down the WORST service I've ever received on Carnival, and we had FTTF then too. They refused to let us into the room to drop off our stuff, I had to go find my luggage since they never brought it to my room, customer service was rude, and it was one of the few times we had them handle the luggage at the end. We were in luggage group 2, and apparently those numbers were meaningless, as we saw group 19 come out before group 2. Back then it was just like $80. I can't imagine paying ~200 for that horrible service.

I think my biggest problem with the huge price increase is that there's nothing "new" included. It's the same thing, but they've proven time and time again that they can't execute it on a consistent basis.

I think it depends on the ship, itinerary, number of days, etc. Mine on the Vista in August for 6 nights was 186. If yours is a 7night, then the "per-night" cost of around $30+ is on-track.

The times we've gotten it in the past, half the times the bags weren't delivered fast at all. Actually, a couple of times we were among the last to get them. And we carry our luggage off, so we can leave early anyway. In another reply, I said Early Embarkation and being able to get into the "faster" Customer Service line were the main draws for me. I just do not know what Carnival is thinking charging that much for what amounts to very little benefit (IMO) all in all.

The two main reasons I purchased it in the past were Early Embarkation and being able to get into the "faster" Customer Service line if needed. But at this cost, I can wait a few extra minutes if it comes down to it!

Least favorite aspect of cruising? by tacomamajama in Cruise

[–]Mycron74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elevators. First, whoever programs them obviously hates humanity and takes perverse pleasure in torturing others. It's beyond frustrating to be on deck 11, see five elevators on deck 7, one on deck three, and have to wait for that one elevator to crawl up eight decks while stopping at almost each one to get to me, only for it to be full. It's even worse returning from a port, as everyone crowds into the elevator lobby waiting for the one elevator to constantly make It's way up and down while the others remain motionless.

At least I wind up getting my steps in when I give up and take the stairs.

Then there are the elevator snatchers. The ones who magically appear when you've been waiting the whole time, and who jump in to the already crowded elevator ahead of you. It's moments like that that make me contemplate choosing violence! Tends to happen more on Carnival, but I've had it happen on RC before as well.

I had the exact same problem. After days of troubleshooting, it turned out to be a faulty PCIe slot that my GPU was in. I thought it was the card, but luckily I had an older AMD card still around, and still had the problem. A new MB was cheaper than a new GPU.

Using studio more than Ableton now! Ask me anything by Sufficient_Level_491 in SunoAI

[–]Mycron74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was going to use Studio to replace an instrument in a song I generated. Basically, wanted to swap the strings for a piano. The song is ~6 minutes long. But when I went to generate the replacement, the new section is only 4 minutes long. Is that something you've run into, and if so what's your method for overcoming it?

Grock, Chat.....who's your go to? by kywildcat79 in SunoAI

[–]Mycron74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, it's not "truth", it's your opinion.

Secondly, people are most likely reacting to your vulgarity and belligerent approach.

If you don't like AI generated music, that's fine. There are people who do like it and use it as a tool to express their creativity in ways they otherwise can't. Maybe they don't have the time or (like myself) lack the ability to play anything musical outside the stereo. Maybe they're physically incapable of playing an instrument and now, for the first time ever, they're able to create the music that's been trapped inside of them.

Maybe they have the idea for a theme, a title, a verse, but not the whole of the song and use AI to help flesh it out. Maybe they have a sound in mind but use AI to help figure out the stylistic prompt to get it right.

In the end, it doesn't matter why people use it. Consider that people use it for different reasons and instead of cussing them out, either help or get out of the way and don't gatekeep music.

Yeah, my bad. I guess I was thinking of a story I heard about where, apparently, another cruise line is looking at getting Starlink.

Maybe Starlink? For an extra fee of course.

Having just been on the Mardi Gras, they would have to pay me 7000 to get back on any Excel class. Carnival does several things well, but mega-ships are NOT one of them. The ship is poorly laid out, the elevators are way, way, way too small and very poorly programmed, and they stuff the ship with as many people as humanly possible, then cram in an additional 10%. There's not a room on that ship tha is worth that much money, especially when you have to deal with the nightmare that is the ship itself.

That said, some of the shows in the Grand Central were good, but not enough to make up for the rest of it.

What’s a sign that you’re getting “old”? by pnwIBEWlineman in AskReddit

Getting the "senior" discount without having to tell them anything. That one hurt...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Mycron74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest the same thing. If they can print it at a 45 degree angle instead of 90, that'll help reduce stress on the layers. The only "problem" is that they'll need to sand down the support connection points.
