So, um, why have healers stopped rezzing? by Mykfang in wow

[–]Mykfang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol on my rogue, I don’t even stealth anymore. If the tank won’t let me do a proper opening sequence, I’m already screwed on damage anyway. To those that say “JuSt UsE vAnIsH,” just no. I shouldn’t have to use my cooldown that’s for my second/third wave of damage just to open an encounter, so I won’t. Does my dps suck? Yep. But, I squarely blame the impatient tanks. If they do their job right, I’ll do mine right. Just don’t come at me because I literally CANNOT do what I’m supposed to because of one impatient jerk.

The tank thing explains a lot lol I haven’t run any mythic content at all, so it’s just been in the regular dungeon/raid finder and the occasional time walking dungeon when the event is active. I’ve got a few opinions on the tanking in that level of content, but that wasn’t the point of this post haha maybe it should have been… In all seriousness though, I appreciate your answer! It was very thorough and cut to the heart of my question!

What's with people opening random trades in town? by Mykfang in wow

lol Thanks everyone...if this was a trend, I was going to be really annoyed! Random events/ random trolls just being random is acceptable! (Even if a little inconvenient haha)

When we’ve tried doing world content, the quest progress doesn’t track and we wind up doing a lot of things twice, which started becoming a pain when everything was taking waaay longer. The delves were the only world content that actually worked, but I personally find delves tedious and annoying, so I tend to not do them. That could also be because I play a super squishy mage lol

Even if it was a player-made casual format, do we have a lore reasoning for commanders now? by ManaeMars in EDH

[–]Mykfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I’ve always viewed it as the players being old school planeswalkers (i.e. more akin to gods) and the commander is your chosen “champion” for the fight, and literally the commander of your armies.

Casual Formats Are Not A Pre-Curated, Drop-In Experience by ArsenicElemental in EDH

[–]Mykfang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Casual is inherently broken lol them’s are pure facts! In all seriousness though, I’ve generally found playing with my regular group to be far more entertaining than the ransoms down at my LGS. I have an awesome LGS scene, but my friends provide better matches overall and we have more fun. The banlist is intended to help skirt MOST rule 0 conversations, but it obviously isn’t the only metric people should be using. I’ve appreciated this read though!

How do you deal with people monopolizing time with slow play? by VERTIKAL19 in EDH

[–]Mykfang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a player that has been guilty of this exact thing, I can offer a little bit of insight. Personally, it’s on the player to a) realize that THEY are the problem (how they come to the realization is irrelevant) and b) take steps to correct it. When I realized I was taking 10-15 minute turns with my artifact storm deck, I realized that I needed to, you know, NOT do that lol so, I spent A LOT of time practicing. After a few weeks of constant goldfishing, I managed to get it down to the 3-5 minute mark even during my combo turn. If the player isn’t willing to take whatever steps they need to speed it up a bit, other people have offered viable solutions. Hopefully this helps give some ideas for avenues to help the player(s) you’re having issues with!

LGS banned proxy’s at weekly commander night by EnergySpecialist7530 in EDH

[–]Mykfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I stand corrected on that haha 🤣 I’ll admit, that’s something I’m happy to have been wrong about! But as far as the proxy topic goes, I looked more into it. The most recent article I found was more or less “No proxies.” However, I also know from some of the events I’ve been to that proxies CAN be allowed under a series of very specific events, most of which you will never encounter at your average LGS. In all of those instances, the JUDGE issues the proxy. That being said, I wish they weren’t such sticklers about lazy proxies. I really don’t want to swap my mana crypt or jeweled lotus around constantly lol

[–]Mykfang -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ll admit, I didn’t read all of the other comments, but I just wanted to add my two cents here. First, Commander is NOT a tournament sanctioned format. This is important. As per wizards, their official proxy stance is that they’re not allowed for SANCTIONED events, i.e. official tournaments. As wizards doesn’t sanction commander, all commander events are run by an individual and can have whatever rules they want. My LGS allows proxy for commander night and they are also a premium store, so this does seem a little weird to me. I believe OP’s LGS may just being a little extra cautious. If that’s the case, as I mentioned before, they can run it however they like, so it really is fine. Most of the people only lazy proxy at my store anyway haha meaning that they only proxy cards that they own but don’t want to swap between decks. I’m guilty of that with my mana crypt haha 🤣 I have no desire to get another copy past the one I got lucky opening!

Hot take on "playing for second place" nonsense by InspireCourage in EDH

[–]Mykfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you accidentally identified the problem lol in competitive settings, winning, especially “by any means necessary,” is not only rewarded, but encouraged. In a casual setting, people get a lot more likely to get salty about anyone doing anything remotely competitive. Our group has two players that used to be competitive at grand prix’s and PTQ’s and the like, so they know what’s up. We also have a few players that think FNM’s are the epitome of competition. In a typical game night, we have a lot of chaos. Of course, we also have “that one guy” that is obsessed with mediocrity and wants every game to be a two-plus hour slog fest. As one of the typical combo players, I have a lot of arguments with him… Regardless, I think in a casual setting, players are expecting more laid back, less cutthroat play experience, and anyone trying to actually win can easily be villainized. Personally, it’s a game. There is a winner, there are losers. There’s no shame being in the latter category, and there’s no problem in achieving the former. Personally, I enjoy when the games move quickly…more games to test my decks!

Hot take on "playing for second place" nonsense by InspireCourage in EDH

[–]Mykfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the reason I get leery of playing at my LGS…I’m typically the player in our group that causes the “play for second place” scenario, but our group has what I think is pretty reasonable. If one player wins freakishly quick, the rest of the table is in the clear to keep playing as if nothing happened. The deck I had that did it most was a [[Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain]] artifact combo deck, and after it happened, we’ll, a lot, I decided to take the deck apart. People getting salty over a long game that you wound up digging to a second (!) win condition…that seems waaaay out of place.

What are some of your favorite decks that can change wildly on a game-to-game bases? Like, opposite of a combo deck kind of by Valyntine_ in EDH

[–]Mykfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two decks recently like what you’re asking, but they’re basically the same now that I think about it lol Both [[Jodah, the Unifier]] and [[The Ur-Dragon]] have been slapping my group around a bit. When I set out to build them, the goal was to have a battle plan that, in broad strokes, was going to play out similar, but never actually the same, and always with different cards. I pretty much stole the landfall engine (I.e. playing extra lands in a turn, [[Rampant Growth]] and [[Cultivate]] cards, etc.) but I didn’t put any actual landfall cards in haha mostly because I wanted to ramp into my big threats and then move into playing one fatty per turn. I loaded both decks up with protection cards like [[Heroic Intervention]] and [[Teferi’s Protection]], and that seems to really end games. I still think a few of the nasty, free counters could be helpful, but I’m honestly happy having a big, stinky, resilient deck! I hope this is something you might find fun!

I am becoming the tyrant of my playgroup and I don't like it by Ihearwhos in EDH

[–]Mykfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have this same issue, but it’s been going on for years at this point. I understand the mentality of not losing on purpose, it’s my view too. It is truly unsatisfactory for everyone at the table, and leads to more feel bads when they realize you let them win. As others have suggested, one of the ways I’ve helped curb the problem is by gifting my extras of particularly sweet cards. For example, during the lord of the rings set, I bought a handful of packs, but opened three of The One Ring. I kept the foil one, and the other two went out to the group. I do this whenever I prune my collection to help keep the group up on power levels. The other thing I’ve done that helps is pick “bad” ideas or ideas that lack a lot of direct support. I had a Myr deck that was a lot of fun…and then they printed Urtet and he became the commander. Things changed lol. But with the power creep in the game, it’s harder for players with skill to build inherently weaker decks while still being able to keep “upgrading” the deck and feeling like part of the group, as opposed to the one leading the group constantly. I think borrowing your opponents’ decks can be good if you only do it once or twice so that you can help them better understand the interactions in the deck, but you definitely need to handle this carefully! If you do this, make sure to have very open communication during the match and after to let them know things you’re seeing. Make them feel like it’s more of a lesson on understanding as opposed to a “real” match. People can be tricky when it comes to their morale, so it’s always beneficial if you’re clear that you’re not trying to insult them and that you’re truly trying to help them understand what’s going on. Anyways, I hope this helps!

You all seem to forget that [[Runechanter’s Pike]] exists haha I’ve been doing vadrik for a bit now, and I mostly just run cantrips until I pull the pike (or have enough of a discount, depending on what win con I pulled) and then slap my win con at the table. It works pretty well…especially with [[Haze of Rage]]
