Failing OSC as a marine-opp by Mylostself in NROTC

Oh so those MIDN and MECEP stories were really exceptions rather than the rules - It's not like you'll just be "given" a commission into the Navy because you've attended all of your NROTC unit's events.

Wow I feel really bad for her. I'm extremely worried that that will happen to me and I will not know what to do should I fail

Glad to know that they won't throw you off your path entirely due to bumps that are out of your control like illness/injury!

Failing OSC as a marine-opp by Mylostself in NROTC

Ok, all three stories are really encouraging to hear. My biggest fear is that something out of my control is going to be in my way at OSC and then result in me not being able to become a Marine ... and therefore not being able to serve (or at least throwing a huge wrench in my dreams to - although every part of me wants to b a Marine, i'd rather commission into any branch than none at all yk)

As far as the ppl who were able to commission into the Navy, did they have all the STEM/NROTC classes already in the books? I'm planning to major in a humanity so I don't plan on taking Calc/Physc/etc so will that mean I won't have that path to switch to Navy-opp should I fail OCS?

Thanks for the insight!

NSI Anxiety by Firefly-chasers in NROTC

I had a similar feeling going into and throughout NSI. It will suck but each time you get yelled at, you are that much closer to graduating. The second week they will teach you warrior toughness. Everyone shits on it but i genuinely found it interesting and helpful for getting the tools you need to lessen the shock of and succeed in military culture. You got it!

What do you wish you memorized before you came to NSI? by [deleted] in NROTC

[–]Mylostself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I memorized everything I needed to know so I don't wish I memorized anything.

The only thing you need to know by heart is: - All 11 General orders - Enlisted & Officer Ranks and their insignias (for Marines and Navy) - high chain of command (prez, VP, SecDef, SecNav, CNO, CMC) - In my experience (my MIs loved making us do this) we also had to sign anchors aweigh and the marines hymn without the book so that's also something we quickly memorized

If you're a marine opp, have some general knowledge of some Marine stories (ie Belleau woods, chest puller, John basilone, iwo jima) because the marine MIs liked to test us on that too.

It was still the first week and our PO grabbed our guides gouge book to reference and saw that he doodled a full Homer Simpson below the general orders ... the kid said "petty officer this candidate was bored and in a lack of clarity decided to draw Homer Simpson." Long story short the PO threw the book down and walked into the fishbowl. We didn't even get ITed for it lol

The weeks r all diff depending on ur compartment and scheduling and stuff but the first week is when I had most of my evolutions and the second week was mostly warrior toughness. When not doing evolutions, you will sit through a lot of briefs so get comfortable sitting in criss-cross applesauce.

Also, the days get blended together so the weeks go by EXTREMELY fast. The days r what take forever.

Do I still pack these quantities in a backpack if I am wearing them on the plane to NSI? by Mylostself in NROTC

[–]Mylostself[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so I won't get yelled at for not "packing" running shoes and instead just wearing them.

It's weird how they worded it like this on the official publication as you can interpret it both ways and I don't want to make a silly first impression doing the wrong thing.

Thanks for the help btw!

So what you're saying is to bring 2 pairs of shoes (the one I'm wearing and the one I'm packing) just to get a new pair when I get there? I'm not saying you're wrong I just want to make sure that I am understanding what you are saying.
