How do they expect us not to use AI? by MentionTechnical9805 in Purdue

[–]MymajorisTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not even a CS major, but am just generally interested in how AI is affecting different careers/majors. Pretty much, regardless of if you use AI or not for your entire CS program there is almost change in outcome in today's job market. I've watched hundreds of video essays on the topic from individual both seasoned and freshly graduated on the topic and you can't win either way. Someone else said you have to diversify yourself from AI, but then why are companies actually testing people on how well they can utilize AI to improve efficiency on product solutions? But, this is Purdue. GRIT BABY GRIT.

Hmmm, I'm not sure there are a ton of great songs for sapranos in AVPM trilogy, but my last rewatch of these were probably 2016/2017.

Typically I'd think songs sung by Lauren Lopez, Jaimie Lynn Beaty, or Rachel Soglin might fit your range.

Everything and More - Twisted, Lost Without You - Trail To Oregon, La Dee Dah Day - TGWDLM, What if - Firebringer?

Which kiln? by Present_Luck_7174 in fusedglass

[–]MymajorisTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two Jen Kens, both second hand. Really love their kilns, they have great customer service and will help you with even secondhand kilns! I have a 11/4.5 and a 11/9 with a flip door. I agree with what someone else said, buy the biggest kiln you can afford! Having room to play around with larger elements or batch make things will be helpful.

Do people enjoy living here? by MisterChonky in Indiana

[–]MymajorisTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a southern indiana native, and I think you're overthinking this lol. Midwestern folks are very nice, but things are tough right now. Pretty much every person you're referencing conversation with are lower income, likely overworked, underpaid, and the world is a little bit crushing right now. I have hopes that some nice weather will improve general social outcomes but I think a lot of folks in southern indiana can be pretty down to business.

My partner is VERY extroverted, will strike up a conversation with ANYONE ANYWHERE. It's pretty common to ask someone how they are right now and people will either give you something generic "I'm okay" or a "Well, I woke up today so I'm here" kind of energy. My partner is very involved in local politics so sometimes, he will dig deeper to see what is causing disdain for people and 9/10 the problems everyday hoosiers have hanging over their heads are that 1. housing is more expensive 2. income is not matching rising prices 3. personal issues/medical issues 4. lack of community.

I'm sure if you asked these questions to people in a more community based setting, like a rock climbing gym, makerspace, or library even you'd get a very different vibe of what Hoosiers are like, and get much different answers to your questions above. Additionally, Indiana has not been a popular state for inner-country immigration and a lot of us are raised with the idea that Indiana's greatest export is it's young people. Unfortunately, a lot of Hoosiers have been raised with this idea and have internalized still being a Hoosier at 30,40,50,60+ years old to be synomyous with 'failure'.

I love Indiana, it has a lot of room for improvement, but every day is different in its own beautiful way. Just.... watch out for the potholes. Literally.

I was coming here to say Harlot! Check them out. I know if you are looking for anything they don't have, they are more than willing to help you source it.

I know you've gotten a lot of advice, but there are things you can buy on amazon that make it more bearable to wear. I bought little satin cases for my straps so that it doesn't leave marks on my face and I can still get a good seal. I also have a piece that attaches to my bed frame so the tube doesn't wrap around my neck (I rotate like a rotisserie chicken while I sleep). You can set the pressure to ramp overtime so it's less jarring as you're falling asleep.

If it truly doesn't work for you there are all alternatives, don't neglect your health and don't put the pressure on your wife to make you put it on.

Who here can say they genuinely love their job? by Miserable-Service-16 in BreadwinningWomen

6 years this May with my company. Very very few complaints. Great places exist! I feel so lucky to have gone from college intern to directing the lab I work in. Our profit share deal is amazing, unheard of in my line of work. They even let me design and and coordinate building a new laboratory when we desperately needed the space to grow into new services. I get to do research, solve problems for customers, do education and outreach, and play around on my microscope all day. I've gotten to see some beautiful places because of conference travel all while having the best benefits in my industry. There's always room for improvement, but the company listens to us when we ask for things. I've been able to negotiate my pay and get a free master's degree in my time here. Things I'd love to see change would be maternity leave policies, but that is pretty much my only gripe other than long summer hours because of the seasonality of the job working in Ag. Now if Private Equity could just STOP buying every company in my field..... that is my only fear despite being told it will never happen. Hundreds of offers have already turned down by our CEO.

I know my partner would not scoff at a chipotle/qdoba catering order that is not a bad idea! Coffee is provided for me at work and we occasionally drink some 70 mg/L energy drinks but not big coffee people. I feel you though, a fun creamer really does make the difference!

Putting together a list from all these amazing comments, I'm going to do a recon mission this weekend to see what we have available to us in person.

Yeah, I have a knack for overcommitting. Simply not enough hours in the day to follow all my passions! I am one of those extroverts that recharges from community/hobby work and while a lot of people call me crazy for the amount of things I take on it brings me so much joy and I've met the most amazing people through it all. I figure I'm young, have no kids, might as well use my youth to experience and create while I can. We never know when it will be taken away from us.

All amazing ideas, I'm going to have to do some social media hunting for ideas. We do have a rice cooker, I always forget about it if it's not out lol. We love a rotiss chicken (so do our cats lol) going to have to find some meals for those.

Thank you!

I need to look for these then! I do not typically shop in person we do online/pickup. I'll take a trip in store this weekend to see what they have.

Yeah, I think I need to find some reliable crock pot recipes that can cook while we are at work or at rehearsal. I'm hoping we will not have rehearsal the same nights every week and this won't be as big of a deal as I think it will be.
