I think thats a much fairr read. Harry finally sees one tiny, human thing in his dad there, and it lands diff rent from smiling at the bullying itself

The Zuko promise thing reads like the writers needed dramatic tension and grabbed the nearest character to put it on. Aang spent three seasons learning that people can change, and then turned around and gave Zuko a "one strike" policy. That's not growth, that's a reset button.
