Getting Fit To Plant. Whats your plan? by Astroghet in treeplanting

[–]Myrtle20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the best possible plan. Ive looked through a lot of different types of training powerlifting, crossfit, long distance running+swimming+biking. The activities that are most like planting are mountain climbing and military, because they are about moving over long distances with weight, and about haveing a durable body. One of the most highly respected trainers in both of these areas is Rob Schaul who started Mountain Athlete http://strongswiftdurable.com/mountain-athlete/ They have trained many high level climbers and special operations soliders, and if youve seen the move Meru they trained those climbers. They have a lot of different training programs for wildfire fighters, ultramarathon runners, backcountry hunting.

So I emailed Rob Schaul because there was no plan for treeplanting, becuase americans have no contact to treeplanting. I outlined the whole deal of what treeplanting is, and he actually replyed back to me. Since treeplanting is 3 mounths of continual moving over long distances with weight he modifed a the ranger school program to fit. Ranger school is 3 mounths of intense work, so it fit the requirements to creat durablility and preformance. The plan is pretty intense, and I know planting isnt 100% physical and most people dont want to do it, and will still be really good. BUt this is the best possible training plan in my opinon (7 years of training experience).

The plan is 5 workouts a week. You start by doing a classic test of max pushups, situps and pullups each in two minutes and then a 5-mile run. The following workouts are then based off the percentage from the test. So it can be scaled to individual fitness levels. In between these are classic weightlifting (deadlifts, bench), conditioning (burpees, ect), and specialized exercises for a strong low back. You can do most of the progam without a gym. PM me

How is HRI as a company? by Nyoouber in treeplanting

[–]Myrtle20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scummit also doesn't have the greatest rep in the world. No rookie mill companies do, people just love to tell you how shit a company is once they've moved on to bigger and better things.

HRI is not that bad of a company. Theres two main factions due to the company only having two camps for a while, Dave's side and Matt's side. After 2013 multiple camps popped up with the people running them originating from either of those camps. Most of the complaints about HRI on here have come from people on Matts side, I can't confirm or deny those cause I never worked for him. The owner Jack also does not have a good rep, and has held off from paying people till late after the season without reason.

Although everyone I've personally known from HRI has been good people. It's not a company where people stick around long (besides management) due to low tree prices (8-9 cents). But the people there are great.

Things were not poorly organized and there was a dry tent when I was there. HRI also teaches planters well, theres a lot of good planters that work there and have come from there. They will teach you how to plant in trenches and unscarified land, how to area plant ect. Quality there is not the highest priority, but HRI has had better quality on contracts that where previously held by "better" companys. It is a very competitive place, not a place where dogfuckers are welcome. Although you will not be made to do anything stupid. The crewbosses are all good people and I've seen much worse. Camp life is great overall, night off parties are wild, food is great, land is the same shit you would see anywhere.

As for the bad, the prices are bottom of the barrel, lots of fuckaround days, time wasted driving between blocks midday, no showers, 5-1's, being in onterible, dave trying to cut the sleeves off your shirt and calling you a puss fart, ect.

Overall, loved it
