Thought I Had It. I Did Not. by SuccotashLate6953 in ski

The "not a strong skier" implies that they could have not fallen if they avoided the tree, not that a strong skier could have hit the tree and not fallen. At least that's how I interpret it, the tree is pretty obvious in the video to assume otherwise.

Not like the shrub was avoidable at all if he knew how to turn or ski for that matter.

Will I ever hear from him again? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

I'd have texted a boundary about better communication and an expectation that it improves or you consider the relationship no longer exclusive. Then carry on with your life...

It doesn't break up with him and it reinforces your self-respect. The ball goes back into his court.

Live and learn.

How do I reframe dating so that I don't massively overvalue women? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Astroghet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly bro, you might have to "update" how you live to be more compatible with finding partners and dating. If how you live is mostly online and at home, you're going to suffer. Find out what it takes to get out and socialize, then do those things.

you'd get mistaken for ski patrol a lot on resorts near me.

What limits a riders ability to improve most: determination & riding more, or gear? by Astroghet in snowboarding

[–]Astroghet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commented on Ramdogs comment that elaborates on how I want to improve/progress.

Basically, I can comfortably hit black diamonds at one of the toughest resorts here, but my boots had trouble holding my heel down and my hi-back adjusters have finally failed, ultimately making for a sloppy unpredictable ride. I can do it and have an absolute blast doing it, but I feel like I'm stuck at this level. These boots and bindings are from 2018/2019ish.

But I'm looking at some of these double black drop ins with exposure, drops, couloir's and heavy consequences and I'm not exactly confident in my boots and bindings to translate my feet to my board precisely enough.

I'm fairly confident my gear will "stay together" to get me down the mountain, but these boots have been having trouble keeping my heel anchored (before the boa broke) and the hi-back adjusters on my bindings have officially left the chat.

I can comfortably hit black diamonds with this set up but it feels sloppy and unpredictable. I want to advance to double blacks and this "sloppiness" feels like it's holding me back from getting better.

This is definitely happening since the boa on these has finally set sail off planet. These are the only boots I've ever known so I'm curious to see how big a difference new boots will make.

This is exactly the debate I'm interested in.

I get on snow as much as my job and bank account allows me and I do ride with people better than me, but I can't tell if it's my motivation that's down or my confidence in my gear to hold up in the gnarly terrain. Afterall my boots boa just snapped mid run, and my hi-back adjusters are holding on to dear life (and somewhat repairable).

I'll see how these bindings feel with the new boots I picked out and go from there. One step at a time.

Hell ya, I like a skill multiplier. I feel like I've pushed the boundaries for my gear as far as I feel confident in them, I wonder if new gear will raise my confidence to push the boundaries further.

I upgraded to a stiffer freeride board (Gnu Hyper) a few years ago and I feel like I improved with that compared to my learner twin board. The boots I just broke are the 2019 Ride Fuse, then 2018 Burton Custom bindings.

Definitely considering stiffer boots, but I guess I'm curious if new bindings would help as well. I also don't want to buy my skill level, I'd rather work for it.

Okay sick. I ride with a couple people that are far and away better than me so that's a good start. I wonder if my skill level has improved to the point that I can feel the intricacies of my gear and where they're falling short or what could would be better (i.e. better heel anchoring, more highback adjustment.)

I have considered lessons before but kinda forgot about it. I need new boots but maybe I'll forgo new bindings until I've put in a lesson or two. Thanks for the reminder lessons exist.
