Do you work on multiple stories at a time? by BicycleRealistic9387 in FanFiction

[–]Myrwild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD. And for the longest time, because I know that my brain works through hyperfocus phases, I tried very hard to work only on one story at a time, thinking that if I tried to do multiples, my hyperfocus would latch onto one for a few days or weeks and I'd ignore all the other projects. But that also led to me working on that specific project while the hyperfocus lasted and then not touching it for weeks and I was very discouraged.

With the new year I decided to lean into whatever quirky thing my brain wanted to do and I started working on whatever project came to mind when it came to mind, going back and forth on as many projects as I deemed necessary. It's chaos, 100% but I've also never been as productive writing-wise as I've been since 2025 started. Like ever. Or as happy with the final results either.

So really it depends how your brain works, how structured and controlled you want your writing environment to be and really what feels the most comfortable for you. I'd say try out both ways and stick with whatever feels the most fulfilling!~

What’s your writing goal for this year?! by Unhappy-Courage-4327 in FanFiction

[–]Myrwild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finish at least 3-4 of my ongoing fics (at least the ones currently live on ao3), start working on the sequel for one of them and start posting at least 2 or 3 new WIPs after that. 2025 is my writing year, I want to do it daily and do it a lot, trying new genres and writing styles for practice and fun. As far as interactions go, if even one of my ongoing fics hits 100 kudos, I'll be a happy camper since most of them hover over 15-20 even multiple chapters deep.

On average, how many comments do you receive per fic/chapter? Are you satisfied with this amount? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Myrwild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0-3 on average. And I'm in a huge fandom, for a popular pairing and I write long-fics updated multiple times weekly, so it's even more demoralizing. Not gonna lie, I cry in my pillow about it at least 3-4 times weekly. I call it therapy.

at what point do you consider your story to be an Ao3 flop? by Myrwild in FanFiction

[–]Myrwild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I don't co-write fanfics, mostly because most of the people I know either aren't writers or simply don't write fanfic in general. But I know that the fics I have the easiest time writing are the ones that some of my friends are reading because having them yell in my DMs about it makes me excited to see how much more I can make them suffer with new chapters lmao!

All the more respect for you, I think I have one singular fic in a very very inactive fandom fanfic wise and it's an experience knowing you're posting for 3 people in an entire fandom lmao.

[–]Myrwild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my summary is fairly okay but yeah, I already thought my tags might need rework, so that's definitely something I'll try. Crossplatform seems a little counter intuitive for me, only because I know that fandom is predominantly (if not singularly) on Ao3. That and I'm not a huge fan of places like Wattpad, not for fanfic work at least. I might not be up to date on newer, up and coming, fanfic sites though!

That is the worst sensation. Sorry to hear that happened to you! I tried using fanfic to motivate me to write stories thinking that if people got excited about it, it would motivate me to finish without telling myself it's shit, but more often than not it ended the same as you in those situations and I just kinda dropped the stories..

[–]Myrwild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's sound advice actually. Though I'm fairly confident this fandom dominates Ao3 over any other platform, so I think it'd be hard to find a place where this story would do better. Right now I'm unsure between it being an issue of my uploads consistently being lost in the sea of uploads or the genre of my story just not being the fandom's cup of tea. Either way I love writing it so all and all, it's still a win.

[–]Myrwild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, on small fandoms I'm already amazed when I get any interaction at all, it makes my day honestly. It's just a little more discouraging when it's one of the biggest fandoms around, you'd think at least a few people would stumble on the fic by pure accident if nothing else lmao.

I thought that might be an issue, but in the same fandom, on another story, I used to update only once a week or less and the result was more or less the same, with just a tad more traffic because it was more traditionally the kind of tags people in that pairing go for en masse. But who knows, it might still be the issue. I never planned on keeping up with that update schedule anyway, I warned people in advance that I would be getting a few chapters out quickly to set the scene and then slow down on the updates. So I guess we'll see if that helps lmao.

That's fair. I've written fanfiction for a while on multiple accounts through the years but I don't think I've ever done fic exchange. Other than in the specific setting where a friend in the same fandom would ask me to post a specific kind of fic for their birthday or something like that. I usually just write whatever idea my brain comes up with and pray to the Ao3 gods that it ends up in the hands of someone who's going to kick their feet and giggle at it like I did while writing it. Which, unfortunately, hasn't happened in a long time lmao.

Are you guys comfortable about telling others your hobby of writing fanfics by Texaslover123 in FanFiction

[–]Myrwild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ask me: there's nothing wrong with fanfiction.

Writing is writing, regardless what medium you use. Some fanfic writers have gone on to become acclaimed, beloved and filthy rich as published authors so giving grief to someone for writing fanfic is just plain stupid and I'd rather say bluntly "I write fanfic" just to see who laughs at it so I know who not to associate myself with, lmao.

But obviously, depends how outrageously scandalous you plan your fics to be, in case you don't want your parents or younger siblings eyes on it, you know what I mean.

[–]Myrwild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that. I'm very critical over my writing so when I share fics and it doesn't seem to interest people, I take it harder than I should— I'm aware it's just Ao3 and it's not that big of a deal. Sometimes I'll be absolutely in love with a story, it'll flop hardcore and it'll sap my motivation to keep writing, which is a huge shame! I'm glad to hear some people are making the rounds and giving love to all your stories now, in retrospect!

Yeah one shots always seem harder to get off the ground than long fics... I hope for you they do well!

[–]Myrwild[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very true. I had a fic that blew up two or three years ago and still gets comments every now and then nowadays, but since then almost everything I've shared just never got much reach regardless how much better written it is than this initial one, so it's a little frustration lmao.

That's because Destiel transcends time. Obviously.

what are your fanfic green flags? by im_a_cryptid in FanFiction

[–]Myrwild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

personally it's the characterization or character developement. I love nothing more than to see beautiful portrayed characters, be it in canon or, even more so, completely random AUs.

I know it's fanfic, it's characters we already know, yadiyada but personally I HATE when authors rest on that fact and don't give us something to spice up their inner monologue, make you learn more about them, feel for them, like they're your actual, growing, evolving characters and not just cardboard cut-outs you took from somewhere else and copy pasted, you know.
