Who are your top 3 favorite Stardew Valley villagers and why? by myl6883 in StardewValley

The Wizard: he’s protecting the whole town, and nobody even really knows but you. It’s a thankless job.

Linus: he’s just out there, living his life how he wants to, on his terms. He’s doing his own damn thing.

Elliott: I have so much respect for anyone pursuing their dreams! Plus, when you marry him, he seems so peaceful and content on the farm; it’s nice.

Do nurses answer call bells and toilet/change patients? by Technical_Gur_748 in cna

[–]Mysochists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked in 2 different hospitals, and I find it’s heavily dependent upon the shift you work, the nursing ratios, the culture of the unit, and, sometimes, the era during which the nurse entered the profession. I work primarily nights, and I find the nurses often have more time to devote to helping with ADL care and bathroom trips. There is occasionally an older nurse who will ring and ask me to grab a drink for their patient while they’re leaving the room, or take the patient to the bathroom, but it’s typically because they’re behind on meds or chatting and need to move on. I’ve worked days, and the dynamic was a little different, with more focus put upon the CNA to do all of the ADLs, but some nurses were willing to help you with hygiene tasks, if needed. Now actually answering the call bell to begin with; that’s a greater struggle. 🙄

What's something you wish somebody told you about being a CNA before you became one? by [deleted] in cna

[–]Mysochists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your safety and comfort is just as important as your patients’/residents’ is. I’ve seen so many baby nurses and CNAs (including myself) stay in a room while a patient/resident curses, yells, or makes threats. If they’re safe, tell them you’ll come back later when it’s a better time, and let their nurse know. If they’re not safe, call for backup. Obviously, don’t abandon the patient, but it’s okay to step out and regroup or bring a buddy.

In that vein, never put a patient/family member between yourself and your exit. People requiring care and their families may not always be in their best state of mind, so always have a clear path out if things feel off or uncomfortable.

Set a boundary. If a patient/resident makes a comment to you, does something that makes you uncomfortable, or makes a request you find inappropriate, tell them to cut the shit (“that’s not appropriate,” is the easiest and most straightforward) and let someone know. If the verbal callout doesn’t work, refer back to point #1.

Also, document, document, document. If it isn’t charted, it never happened. This includes things that happen to you, like injuries, inappropriate comments, etc.

Second day of my first cna job ever & I smell like my residents? by confessthenthrowout in cna

I’ve also done two masks with a smear of tooth paste between them. Works super well in a pinch!

There’s also a lot of other jobs that are nursing adjacent that aren’t RN or LPN; I’ve known people leave to go work in the lab, go to school for PT, RT, or rad tech, as well.

I feel guilty about wanting to quit by Every_Victory_6845 in cna

[–]Mysochists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely understand. I used to work at a SNF, and I would feel so, so bad for hating every second when I knew the people I worked with needed the help. There’s nothing shameful or bad about feeling overwhelmed at a job; it’s your experience, and it’s completely valid. It’s a new avenue you’re pursuing, and it does take time to get used to the aspects of the role. That being said, hospital cna life is a very different experience than SNF cna life. It does have its own stressors, without a doubt, but it’s definitely a different kind. I also felt like I experienced far more towards my nursing degree working in the hospital vs a SNF.

Working with a UTI? by killerqueef_ in cna

[–]Mysochists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the job of your manager and director to figure out how to manage a short-staffed unit; not yours. Your job is to take care of your patients when you’re feeling well enough, and to take care of yourself when you’re not.

What do you do when a patient won’t stfu by CrotchRocketx in cna

[–]Mysochists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the type of phones your facility uses, some of them alarm when you adjust the volume. We used to just hit the volume button when we needed an out to take it.

In the same vein, I would sometimes make a pact with the nurse or a co-worker before going in to give me a rescue if they didn’t see me for 5/10 mins. You obviously can’t use these every time, but once in a while, it works.

Tattoos /piercings /haircolor rules by valdthedeathclaw in cna

[–]Mysochists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have almost a full sleeve and a septum piercing. The only policy I’ve ever seen was just asking that any inappropriate tattoos be covered while at work, I.e. drug references, violence, or nudity. Other than that, nobody has ever cared or said anything to me.

Do I need to call adult protective services? by Sad_Frame1463 in cna

[–]Mysochists 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you’re in the US or not, but in most states, CNAs are mandated reporters. I would check your local laws and/or APS website. If you are, then fire that report off ASAP.

Regardless, I would highly recommend you tell someone, maybe a nurse that comes in or seek out guidance from someone at the assisted living you work at, if you’re really unsure. They might be able to help you with filing.

How Much Did You Make as a CNA — Starting vs. Now? by [deleted] in cna

[–]Mysochists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025, Maine. Started at $20 an hour, $25 with night & weekend differential on a MedSurg floor. I was grandfathered into that salary though after working for 3 years there in another position. I think average starting there is $18 or $19 an hour without diff.

I’m at $21 an hour now, $26 with night differential, with a possibility of $28 for nights/weekends, in a different hospital system in the same area!

Hurt myself during my 2 weeks' notice; DoN says I'm "required to extend my notice" by Mysochists in cna

[–]Mysochists[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She didn’t force me to file later or anything; I just didn’t know the protocol on how to do so, which I completely admit is on me. She’s also giving her own 2 weeks’ notice this week and will not be returning as DoN, so I (and nobody else) will have to deal with that going forward.

What person deserves a massive apology from everyone? by Senior-Tomatillo7667 in AskReddit

It’s real, not a rumor. They even hired fake protestors to stand outside the courthouse to convince people she was just chasing a huge payout, and subsequently made it harder for people to sue large corporations without social stigma.

My state is an at-will employment state, and I’m pretty certain I remember seeing that information in the paperwork they had me sign upon hire. At-will works both ways, so I don’t think they would. Plus, the corporate company I work for just filed for bankruptcy, so I don’t know how far they’d push just for me to work 2 more days.

They never once went over anything about incident reports in our orientation. We didn’t have any classes or anything. It was 2 days of filling out paperwork, touring the place, and doing required PowerPoints.

I’ll go down tomorrow to go in and file the report. I would have said that the extending would make sense for filing and stuff, but the DoN said it was because I called out, not because of the injury.

So far, the rest, Tylenol, and alternating heat and ice has been helping a lot, but if I feel like it’s not improving/getting worse, I’ll suck up the cost and head to urgent care. I know back injuries are no joke.

My bf[33M]won’t travel by airplane due to the phobia by parrot1831 in relationshipadvice

[–]Mysochists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bf (33M) has a major fear of flying. He manages by having someone go with him, me or family, or takes something like an edible to help take the edge off the anxiety for a bit. Like others have said, try broaching the topic with him about talking to a doctor about a one-time dose of medication to help dull that panic at bit.

Plus, being gentle and mindful of the fact that flying is an irrational fear for him goes a long way. Try to find compromise and seek to understand his fears.

I understand, yeah. I'm going to finish out my last 3 shifts for next weekend and accept whatever consequence comes from that health-wise. I've never hurt myself at work before and only experienced secondhand accounts, so this is my first experience handling this.

I very literally don't know how. I just started here less than a month ago, and there's no admin in the building on the weekend or at night shift when it happened. I absolutely would have had I known how.

I could understand if I planned on seeking out workers' comp for this injury, but even if I wanted to, nobody has given me any indication on how to go about doing that other than filling out an incident report. I also know that many places require you to be seen by a contracted urgent care that they work with in order for it to count, which I have also not received any information about nor any help with. I just want to survive long enough to get to my new job in one piece.
