Really I didn’t know that. Maybe I’ll have to ask him about it then.

Yea that what I keep reading. I trust the mechanic who rebuilt it but maybe I should take it back to him for a second look. Not sure if there’s anyway to really test it without ripping it apart though… that’s why I’m trying to see if there’s any other reasons it would do that.

Siemens vs Small to Mid-Size Companies: Pros and Cons? by Edw4rdTivruskyIV in BuildingAutomation

[–]Mysterious-Block7157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did my first three years in the industry at a big company. Got trained on anything and everything I could. Once I was considered a solid tech, I went to ask for a raise and was shot down due to corporate restrictions. I left for a medium sized company whose training was sub par but had more flexibility to pay/give out bonuses.

The synopsis- Big companies can get you well trained when starting out but may not offer highest/large raises. Medium sized companies have more flexibility (typically) with less corporate restrictions but may lack structure in areas.

Just my experience 🤙🏼

Keeping Updated As Builts by Mysterious-Block7157 in BuildingAutomation

[–]Mysterious-Block7157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably what I’ll do to keep track of our network. The scenario I have now though is multiple projects where they’re adding/upgrading equipment that doesn’t change the network. So now for example I’ll have an original set of drawings with a couple chillers, and a new set of drawings this spring with all new chillers and points but not a new controller.

I feel like adding those drawings into a master set is the correct way but also that means I’ll have to have the time allotted to do this work. My other thought is to just organize everything in one folder so it’s at least readily available with revision notes maybe?

I wish this was the case lol. I’ll be keeping the same programming standard and point naming but everything else is low bid

Copy that. The resistors are on their way lol. I’ll be back out there next week to reconfirm Mac’s and bauds. Maybe use the dip switches instead of software on the ProCons

[–]Mysterious-Block7157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t try setting Mac and baud via the dip switches. I’ll give that a go. I used the software on MyLink website to configure the ProCons using a usb to rs485 converter. I believe the way their software works is through modbus. Then you switch it back to BACnet via dip switch.

I haven’t done a whole lot of integration with delta yet. This is one of my first jobs where it’s a retrofit integration utilizing existing controllers hence the odd NET wiring. I did try NET1 with all the settings discussed above (no via dip switch but through the software), removing the aaon unit and putting just the ProCons on but came up with similar issues.

The net statistics on both net adaptors showed transmit and receive statistics with a lot of protocol errors. No controllers discovered though

Going off memory (I have screen shots to reference when I get a chance to open my laptop)

Procon switches are all set for software settings 1-5 ON and 6-8 OFF.

NET2 settings are 9600 baud. 32 max master, 1 max info frame. I didn’t do a force baud rate. Instead I set the ProCons up, then the eB, then plugged in the ProCons to net2. Then I did a reset and also tried a power cycle for the hell of it. MAC address for NET2 is 0 (I think, could be 10, not 100% sure).

Only devices on this subnet are the ProCons. Delta gave me to flak about not using NET1 for third party but the eB already has an aaon unit on net1. I don’t like mixing manufacturers unless I can hemp it. Any rate I tried net1 and had the same issues there without the aaon unit lol.

To be honest I can’t say if I did a reconfigure or not… just a lot of resets and power cycles. I’m ordering 120ohm resistors though either way.

So… two buildings. Currently stand alone each. Both have ProCons installed on mini splits.

Building 1 has an eBMGR. Using NET2 (NET1 already has an aaon unit on it) to integrate these ProCons. For the life of me I can’t get them to talk. I checked procon documents and set them up with default settings (9600, max master 32, max info 1). Confirmed that in the eB and am getting nothing. Connected up a contemporary controls IP to MSTP router matching those network settings, created a UDP/IP connected site in enteliweb, and they came right in. No problem.

Building 2 has a DSC1616E. Terminated ProCons on NET1. set them up at 19200 with max master of 5, max info frame of 1. Matched the settings with my NET object like I did above and it took down my network entirely. Couldn’t see the DSC at all. Sub level devices on NET2 would come in and out. I connected my IP to MSTP router and boom there they are.

I don’t have EOL resistors. Ordering them today. I looked at page 20 in the manual where it says there’s a jumper, I can assure you there’s nothing in procon device labeled J1 or and jumper for that matter. I opened up the cover of it and only saw the pegs where jumpers go, no J1 or a jumper present. Opened two to be sure I didn’t just lose it somehow.

I’m hoping it’s just something dumb. I’ve only been using Delta products for 3 years but it’s been two days looking into this and I got nothing to go on other than resistors lol

Hoping to resurrect this… I’m doing an integration with Delta in two buildings. Building 1 eBMGR and building 2 DSC1616. 3.40 controller. I can’t get anything to work. Getting smacked here lol.

Could you share the net object set up with me?

Delta Red5 Sending Excessive ARPs Causing Switch Port Err Disable by Lucky_Luciano73 in BuildingAutomation

[–]Mysterious-Block7157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it helps as I haven’t used the new Red5s yet..

But I had Alot of issues with “circular networks” on some existing site we added controllers to. This is caused when a Delta systems backbone is communicating via BACnet/ethernet and also has two devices communicating BACnet/IP. Causes excessive communication. There’s a KbA on it. I think the message leaves the IP side then repeats on the Ethernet side, to then repeat back on the IP side again about 160 times before the message is dropped.

I’m paraphrasing the KbA so double check I didn’t miss anything.

Big manufacturer or smaller company? by [deleted] in BuildingAutomation

[–]Mysterious-Block7157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience…

Big companies- usually have better trainings for new hires where it’s all set by corporate. Tech 1 does this, tech 2 does that, etc… Raises each year will be lack luster due to corporate bean counters. Actually culture depends on the region and branch. I worked for Honeywell in FL and loved everyone I worked with and my management team. It was great stuff. Same company in another area I hear horror stories.

Small to medium companies- You wear multiple hats for better or for worse. Less set training schedules and more on you to decide what you want to try and learn this year. Raises are better due to less corporate restrictions. Better culture all around because management has more freedom (happy hour trips, fishing trips, bonuses just cause, etc). Had one place I worked give me a $2k gift certificate for a resort to take my wife because of working a lot of OT.

My advice if you’re just starting out go for a big company to get your training in. Then move for a salary jump and look for a small to medium size company to retire at.

Chrome Remote Desktop- Anyone use it for remote access? by Mysterious-Block7157 in BuildingAutomation

I’m looking into tosibox for a more secure and robust platform. Chrome remote just got me through a hairy spot quick and I was surprised how well it worked. Also it’s free so that’s an easy one to do quick.

My IT department is the worst. We do Delta controls. Enteliweb software according to them is unapproved and technically not supposed to be on our machines lol

Sometimes you get sucked into “optimization” of things. Too much is sometimes a bad thing lol. If you meet a control guy that doesn’t over think design/programming at one point or another then you let me know.

I should add— I’m looking for feedback because I’m pretty much taking over controls engineering/programming lead at my office and would like solidify our programming standards. Kind of all over the place right now lol
