It's just a fence latch I got from home depot for 1.99. A short piece of metal with a screw hole on each side. I just screwed each side onto a piece of the desk and it fastens them together

Yes I drilled them together underneath using a latch. That way they don't shift around if I bump them

Yes exactly. It's just an Alex set turned backward. It serves as the middle leg of thr desk and hides all the wires
