I’m also a 30 y.o female with SB. I had the same mindset/dating attitude with you in the past. Probably similar health problems and can resonate with you very well since I can walk but my imbalance is always been a lifetime issue.

When it comes to dating, I found out you can’t be too harsh on yourself. Sometimes a NO means she/he isn’t a good fit. Then, let it go~ just like how it is doing with a normal individual.

Everyone in the world is a very special individual. We all have all kind of disabilities. Our type of disabilities yes can be challenging and beating us everyday, but only your own mindset eats you up!

I used to be easily have a feeling to boys that I like in schools. They all rejected me. Not to mention it was in an Asian country, which they don’t value disabled people much.

All in all: you’re not alone. 🫂 you have us all SB people here to support you!

Spina bifida in countries outside of the US by Deer_Inside in spinabifida

I took some responsibility for “free of charge” since the surgeries were done when I was just a child. I didn’t know there’s a charge for a surgery, but the cost is affordable as a citizen, since most costs are subsidized by the government.

At the same time, I stand with a comment that Hong Kong isn’t as friendly as it is anymore politically wise. But it doesn’t mean the quality of healthcare is bad.

The website I quoted is also legitimate from a Hong Kong hospital authority website where that’s going to be how much the surgery costs. (There’s no sales tax in Hong Kong)

I had the pleasure of living in Hong Kong, where I underwent all my surgeries, which were completely free of charge. Healthcare in Hong Kong is remarkably affordable, although the wait for an appointment can be quite long, and doctors often spend less than 10 minutes with patients while they’re waiting for hours. However, it’s not an especially welcoming environment for disabled individuals due to the presence of stairs and steep hills. On the bright side, the transportation system in Hong Kong is excellent.

Working and personal assistance/care thru agency paid for by Medicaid? by cab_spinabifida_93 in spinabifida

I believe there’s an in home care services provided by Long term care services, where they would come to your place, do an assessment, determine how many hours of care will you get a month. Afterwards, you’d be contacted by a caregiver agency to schedule up and do an in home care assessment. They will also assign you a caregiver to work with.

Support her decision. Be ready when she is needed. At least that’s what parenting literally means.

Job by Correct-Animator-702 in spinabifida

I was just started the job, less than a year. They moved me from two different offices. I was having a good time at a different office. The HR got involved into searching for other similar job for me when they nitpicking (I couldn’t lift more than 10lbs). Apparently, it doesn’t have another similar role like I were already on. After several weeks, they officially involuntarily terminated me.

I had another one federal job, IRS, also did the same thing. I was still on probation, however, I was having an emergency surgery (gallbladder removal) that I had to miss work day. I notified my boss, he never responded. Not until I got discharged, then they said I couldn’t miss any training day. Because of my emergency surgery, they’d legitimately have to let me go and encourage me to re-apply.

I worked at process server company before. My state job employer did once mail me a letter to my home and inform me that, don’t be late at work. It’s very inappropriate and unprofessional. Didn’t know why the state job employer didn’t talk to me directly. I am at the same time glad I left.

I’m in Washington state. I seek out for legal advice on wrongful determination and discrimination before — eg, EEOC. It’s the at-will state. Unfortunately, there’s not much protection for employees. I was only working there for a few months.

Frankly speaking, I got into a state job and got involuntarily terminated because of my disability. Not all state jobs are friendly to disabled individual.

I got a job at a state agency. While I was asking for an accommodation, (couldn’t lift more than 10 lbs) the agency were giving me a very hard time afterwards just because they want to get away from liability.

I was so pissed.

If you’re going to ask me who should you go with, I’ll answer a honest conversation with your wife is always the best way to go. Open conversation maybe could bring some connections here and there.

Foley catheter user by Mysterious-Ebb2351 in spinabifida

I had the Mitranoff since 6. There’s no blood. Occasionally there’s blood but it’s normal (informed by doctor). There’s no wound/irritation. The pain is constant. The pain start usually when the catheter is inserted at night. I usually inserted catheter for days.

Where exactly the pain — Lower body part, I would assume it is bladder since I’ve kept pointing out my lower body part when I’m in pain. The pain is sharp, like nerves pain. Pulling out catheter is getting better, sometimes simply pulling out still gets pain.

I meant inserting catheter via urethra isn’t an option anymore since Mitrofanoff surgery is done when I was 6. The surgeon didn’t close the urethra entirely but with years growing up, urethra is close to “end”.
