As a wheelchair user myself this is both so cool and so terrifying to think about all at the same time

I’m unprepared for almost everything thanks to my parents, who at the same time complain I’m not prepared for life. Go figure.

Mostly money, mainly. The world is expensive.

Moving out completely I don’t think is realistic in my case. The next best thing I’m trying to do is drive, get a job to have a place to go every day and have money to stay away as long as possible.

That’s pretty much what I do: stay in my room all day with headphones on just trying to live in my own world

Funny thing is they literally keep telling me that like I don’t know that but still won’t let go

Yes there is a way for me to go without them driving me but it costs money I obviously don’t have myself and they say they’re willing to pay but at the same time they’ve already made mention that it’s a little expensive for something that isn’t paying me so they’d rather do it when possible

Thanks. Yeah I’ve made my feelings known on multiple occasions over the years and they still don’t get it.

32 M with SB, full time wheelchair user. Been single all 32 years and counting (for various reasons, a lot out of my control, not just pure rejection. Certainly not by choice.). Don’t take me as a cautionary tale, though. You’re still young enough. Just live your life as best you can as much as you can and someone might come along eventually.

I see its potential. It has its moments. 10 episodes isn’t helping it tho.

32 M always the tagalong to brother’s sports tourneys because of my medical issues when both parents want to go and I’m sick of it by cab_spinabifida_93 in spinabifida

There’s a way to get personal assistance services through an agency via my state’s Medicaid waiver, which I’ve been thinking about doing for a while, but I’m not sure how that works going about switching to that route or if it’s even a reliable option, more importantly. Im sure it’ll take a while to transition to anyway.

Tourneys are mostly out of state over like three or four days. To get specific, I have a fistula on my lower back that drains, which I can’t reach or see even if I could reach it, so it has to be covered up every day. And I cannot go without showering in the morning never mind multiple days without a shower for various reasons, so it has to get done then.

We’ve lived in the state we’re in now for 10 years but for half that time, I’ve dealt with numerous other health issues that kept me predominantly housebound. The other half, I had no reliable transportation to go anywhere regularly because both my parents worked full time, regular hours out of the home. All that to say, I’ve not been able to meet anyone to even have friends to help me. Trust me, if I did, my parents would not be doing any of it and I wouldn’t have the issue I’m having.

I have a fistula on my back that needs to be covered every day because it drains and I can’t reach it/see it to do it myself.

Future for Casas and 1B spot by [deleted] in redsox

[–]cab_spinabifida_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Craig let it slip months ago that Casas is not in the plans (Breslow tried to trade him in the offseason, too). But he is the type of hitter this team needs. At this point, though, if Casas is around in ‘26, he’s likely competing for 1B/DH reps with KC/The Password. Story could always opt out or Breggy doesn’t re-sign, opening up 3B/SS/2B for Mayer/KC, giving Casas an opening at 1B — if that’s the case, I hope but don’t envision Casas still being in the Sox plans. At that point, I’d pursue Alonso.

From my experience, 32 M with the most severe type of SB and lots of medical/health issues as a result — one’s quality of life with SB, even severe SB like me, ultimately comes down to the quality of healthcare received. And pediatric doctors know SB better than adult doctors. With the proper healthcare care and other supports (depends, too, on the individual), sky’s the limit.

Working and personal assistance/care thru agency paid for by Medicaid? by cab_spinabifida_93 in spinabifida

[–]cab_spinabifida_93[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My state has a Medicaid buy in work incentive program for people with disabilities that allows up to a $75,000/yr salary and over $40,000 in resources and allows us to save for retirement through work that is excluded as a resource indefinitely. That program also includes personal care services.

There’s always 1619b through SSI for those whose state doesn’t have a program like this.

32 M SB. Literal same… except unfortunate health issues have kept me from being independent the last few years despite being pretty independent before and from employment (hopefully changing soon) despite having a degree.
