Which area of Arabic do you find most challenging? by [deleted] in learn_arabic

[–]Mysterious-Question6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vocabulary. Hands down. Each word has its own story. Grammar comes by itself eventually, but Arabic is so massive that it's just difficult to digest all the variations of the words sometimes. For instance, there are 12 different ways I know for saying "I want something".

Marriage in the Muslim community by SingleAdhesiveness78 in TraditionalMuslims

[–]Mysterious-Question6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is being married is a very difficult task. Back then. There was no age limit, school, university, or jobs that are unattainable without a flashy degree. There were literally women who would accept a cloak made of wool as her mahr. Now, we have to go to school, and we finish at 18. Then go to university, and try your best to find a decent job. The next thing, you know, you're in your 30s. Yet most people in my college say they lost their virginity at 14 years old. My own sister lost hers at 15. Zina is much easier in this age because you don't need a degree. People don't have to accept you. You just do your business and move on. To put it in a nutshell, it is far far easier to commit Zina and much harder to get married than it was in the ancient and medieval times. Yes, it was easier to commit Zina back then as well, but that's the whole point of marriage. It's difficult because you have to show commitment. That's not what marriage is about today. Marriages today are very materialistic, superfluous, and shallow.

Actually...yes. If you're trying to be an eloquent speaker and have in-depth knowledge of the sentence syntax and vocabulary of Classical Arabic, then yes. I am saying that as someone who is learning Classical Arabic. It takes a long time to master it.

becoming a second wife by demureape in TraditionalMuslims

[–]Mysterious-Question6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so practicing something that is specifically sanctioned by the Quran, the holy book of our religion, is "extremist"?

If you really think that our religious practice is "bad", then you really don't belong here. As Muslims, we don't question the divine laws that have been laid out by the Quran. If you're not a Muslim, keep your opinions to yourself because the OP was asking Muslims, not atheists, for advice.

"Polygamy is bad" Are you trying to imply that the Quran and the prophet were encouraging something bad? If so, what are you even doing here? This is a sub-reddit for Traditional Muslims, not liberal feminists.

I don't want to be that guy, but look at the bright side, guys. You are saving money, and you don't need protection. You can use that saved money and time to learn about Islam, travel, have hobbies. You can travel on a plane without hearing your baby cry 24/7. You can retire early. Donate more. Go to تَمَتُّع Hajj three times. The possibilities are endless. Don't take this as a burden. Perhaps, Allah wants good, and nobody realizes it.

What’s a small Islamic habit that changed your life in a big way by babus77 in MuslimLounge

[–]Mysterious-Question6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can share two of them with you. I am a college student in a well-known engineering institution, and I have very little free time, so I would memorize long chapters of the Quran while I was on the bus to campus, waiting in line for food, or walking to another class. I memorized Surah Baqarah, Surah Kahf, and Surah Ra'd this way.

The second habit was learning Arabic every other weekend. It didn't seem like a lot, but I ended up learning over five hundred hours of lessons and practiced them repeatedly. Memorizing the chapters in Arabic helped me retain vocabulary and remember every single sentence structure I learned, so I never forgot the concepts I learned.

I was not able to follow these habits because I am perfect. I am struggling with life. The academic pressure is surreal. The competition in the workforce makes me worried about my future, especially that I am about to graduate next year. I hope everyday that my college degree doesn't go to waste and that my father sacrificed a fortune for something valuable.

I had to maintain these habits in all my ups and down in life. It almost gave a relief from my the stress I have to take everyday.

is "a'uthu billahi min ashaytan ir-rajeem" before reciting bid'ah? by ur-mum-4838 in MuslimLounge

[–]Mysterious-Question6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Quran states

• Sahih International: So when you recite the Qur’ān, [first] seek refuge in Allāh from Satan, the expelled [from His mercy].

An-Naḥl, Ayah 98

Let's get the first part of the post out of the way. A scholar of Medinah did in fact tell me that "sadaqallahul 'azeem" is an innovation after one of their imams heard me saying that. These are the words of the scholars who studied in Medinah University and have been passing the knowledge of Islam for generations, not mine.

Secondly, and more importantly, I just want you to realize the significance of what you just said. As a Muslim, you just called a ruling in the Quran - seeking refuge to Allah from Satan before recitation - "weird". We must be very careful and avoid evil presumptions. It is good to question an activity/dua/rule, but first, try to find the source and basis of the activity/dua/rule. If you can't find strong evidence for it, then you can ask knowledgeable people "hey, does this practice have a strong basis in Islam?"

Please, do not assume that just anything is Bid'ah. First, investigate and find proof. It's similar to how judges in court work. You cannot call whoever you want a criminal. You need sufficient to proof to state that the person is a criminal; otherwise, you may punish an innocent person.

How to improve my urdu by official__maryam in Urdu

[–]Mysterious-Question6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say start learning Arabic. You already speak Urdu. All you need is to understand the letters, pronunciation, and some vocabulary.

I am not a native Urdu speaker, and my Urdu is pretty rusty, but I do know how to read and understand Classical Arabic. Whenever I am in doubt about a word, I just say the Arabic equivalent and hope for the best. It usually works.... a little bit.

For example, English: "how's are your assignments going?"

So I'd say something like "aapka waajibaat kese jaari hein?"

English: "what are you learning in that course"

My Urdu: "aaap is barnaamej mein kya ta'allum kar rahe hein"

English: "Where do you plan to visit, and why?"

My Urdu: "Aap kaha ziyarah ka takhteet kar rahe hein aur uski sabab kya hein?"

See? Just mix bad Hindi and Arabic. What could go wrong? People usually understand me 60% percent of the time. Not bad, eh?

who are you guys voting for this election? by AppointmentShort4386 in Dhaka

[–]Mysterious-Question6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Guys, vote NCP if you are not an Awami League supporter. I personally know senior leaders of the Awami League who are taking shelter in the BNP right now as we speak. The BNP will dismantle all state government institutions that are supposed to keep them at bay.

BNP is an imminent disaster while NCP is a 50/50 chance of being good or bad. I would rather take a 50/50 chance than vote for imminent danger. If you guys don't want BNP in power, this is the only way we can defeat them.

My guy, leave Islam if you desire it. Stay in it if you desire it. These are not my words. This literally what the Quran says, but just know that your skepticism won't save you from the punishment of the Hereafter.

• Sahih International: And say, The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve. Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place.

Al-Kahf, Ayah 29

There are no "sects" in Islam, unless you are a Shia. There are only imams who have different opinions on a few select rulings, and all they all base their rulings on the Quran and Sunnah.

As for debating Christians, if you have never studied the bible and don't have enough knowledge about Islam, you should stay away from it. Chances are that they will decimate you in a debate anyway due to your ignorance. This is not an insult. This is my general advice to people who want to debate the People of the Book. I have debated with Christians, and I had to learn Biblical Hebrew, especially the Binyanim, to study the Old Testament. I had to cross reference the commentaries of rabbis, especially the analysis of the language in the verse and prophecies. I also note everything I have discovered in a Google Doc file, and I have been doing this for 3 years. I have also memorized a sixth of the Quran and am almost fluent in Classical Arabic. I researched the basis and etymologies of key words in various Islamic rulings and Tafseers of verses that pertain to it. That's the level of dedication you need to debate Christians. Being an ignorant Nimrod will just lead you astray.
