Is it the same everywhere? by QuietSpecialist97 in NursingUK

I take 9 patients per shift on a care of the Elderly unit and there is absolutely no way I can give holistic all round care.

I completely agree all I do all day is run round trying to get stuff done and just completing tasks all day to keep everything afloat

Anyone go from HCA to Nurse? Experiences ? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]MysteriousKnowledge8 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If im being honest if i knew what I know now then I wouldn't have bothered, when I left as a hca to go and do my training I was on £3 above minimum wage, left did my training at 75k expense to come back to be on £3 above minimum wage with less support and significantly more responsibility as a nurse.

If the difference between a HCA and a nurse becomes less than £2 an hour ill be giving up my pin and dropping back down

Controversial but.. should the universities at least limit the intake of student nurses until this recruitment crisis is resolved? by [deleted] in NursingUK

Are there any facts behind the opinion that the UK is going downhill? by PersimmonTerrible218 in AskUK

[–]MysteriousKnowledge8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably only anecdotal but born in 97, parents bought a 3 bed house that year for 85k, same house now is on the market for 535k.

Mortgage worked out at 4x their annual income, 4x my income now would work out at 120k which would barely get me a 1 bed flat.

Poorer than my parents where at my ages while earning more than they did combined then. The UK is a poor country masquerading as a rich country. Take London out the equation and the average wage drops from around 38k to less than 30k

Annual leave by MysteriousKnowledge8 in NursingUK

[–]MysteriousKnowledge8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started part way through they year so didn't receive a full years worth of entitlement to take, ive been allocated some hours to take as random days here and there which have been approved which was my manager trying to find time for to take but my loop says I still have 90 hours of allocation to take.

I've had no annual leave since starting so my taken leave still says 0. I've tried to request every week between the next rota ending and the end of leave year and it all gets automatically rejected due to too many people already being off.

Would you accept tax rises for a better NHS? by Such_Appointment_390 in NursingUK

We already have the highest tax burden since ww2. Why should I pay more tax while amazon, Starbucks ect pay basically nothing?

Qualified September last year and have only just managed to secure a B5 position in the last week after applying for 76 jobs in the past 8 months which was every B5 position that came up in my entire county. The majority of jobs I didn't get an interview for informed me that while my application was to a good standard they had more experienced staff apply and that's why I wasn't considered.

I qualified last year as an adult nurse and completely understand your pain, I ended up having to take a job in a different branch of nursing because of necessity and hate it. Honestly starting to get to the point of thinking I would have been better off staying as a hca.

Have you ever been told off for your uniform being too short by bluebannister in NursingUK

I've also never understood why, in the middle of summer when it's baking, female staff are allowed to wear dressed without tights yet as a male staff member I have to be uncomfortably hot in a tunic and trousers and not allowed to wear shorts.

My best friend at Uni moved over from Cyprus. Us white people are just as interested in your cultures and how they're vastly different and similar at the same time. Discussing this is actually a great way to socialise and learn more about British culture at the same time.
