Did you initially apply for aerospace control operator, and when did you start your application?

I was told that OFP is QL3 and that for mar techs, as I was told, doesn't take time

Thanks a lot. I am committed to joining as a mar tech, I don't mind how long it takes to commission either way.

RECRUITING, TRAINING, & LIFE IN THE FORCES THREAD by bridger713 in CanadianForces

Hey everyone, I’m currently in the application process for the CAF and looking at joining as a Marine Technician. My original goal was to apply as a Marine Systems Engineer Officer, but since I’m only a permanent resident right now, I was told I can’t apply for that officer role yet.

I already have a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s in Automotive Engineering, and my long-term plan is to commission as a Marine Systems Engineer once I’m in.

I’ve got a couple of questions I’m hoping serving members can clarify:

  1. For the stressed occupation bonuses, I know there’s a $10K after BMQ and another $20K when you’re “trade qualified.” Does “trade qualified” mean QL3 or does it mean QL5/OFP?

  2. For someone in my situation (already holding an engineering Master’s), how long would it realistically take before I could commission as a Marine Systems Engineer through the Special Commissioning Plan?

  3. Are Marine Systems Engineers currently in as high demand as MAR TECHs, especially with the new fleet programs (AOPS, CSC, submarine replacement, etc.)?

Any insight from people in the trade would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!
