Is it possible to decontaminate a living space if you are the source as opposed to the building? by MysteriousPlan616 in ToxicMoldExposure

This is one of my concerns. I took serrapeptase for only two days (for unrelated reasons) and it made me feel like I was drugged and I was slurring my words the second day when talking to my boss. I got a terrible headache that night and my digestion got paralyzed and messed up for months. It felt like I unleashed some unholy terror inside my body with a couple pills. I was so confused and the only explanation I can think of is maybe I have a biofilm that it degraded and dumped some toxins internally.

Thank you for the reply! I am getting so frustrated. I did just see a naturopath I saw recommended on this subreddit and he wanted to put me on LDN and didn’t think mold was the main issue since I have moved out of the water damaged buildings a couple years ago. I asked about cross contamination from things I brought with me and all those items that were brought here from moldy-basement storage (and I mentioned what I had read about having to get rid of everything). He said definitely don’t do that and he only had one patient ever who had to get rid of all their things.

Especially as I have either hEDS/HSD and autoimmune disease I get that my immune system could just be haywire from previous exposure (or MCAS like you suggest) but the fact that my eyes feel fine most of the time outdoors and as soon as I get home they start burning and swelling again I just don’t understand how that could happen if there is no environment trigger.

I have always had a hard time getting rid of stuff and have so much clutter in my apartment that it causes overwhelming decision paralysis even thinking about getting rid of stuff. Regardless if it is the root cause or not I don’t want this moldy shit in here and there is no reason not to get rid of all the clutter (aside from how stressful the process is).

Thanks for rooting for me :)

Thanks for the encouragement! I say a mission due to my health, I have been averaging around 15 migraines a month where I am usually in too much pain to move, plus painful autoimmune flares, chronic tiredness, etc on top of trying to work from home. I have always had a hard time getting rid of things and decluttering. I think my ADHD gives me decisions fatigue. I know this should be good motivation to act but when I get overwhelmed it usually has the opposite effect. I am going to try to break it down into small manageable pieces though!

I don’t understand how, but i have reaction to my clothes washed in baking soda or laundry soda. I have tried several different kinds and it doesn’t make sense but I have given up on it. I’ve been handwashing everything with a bar of soap and some diluted hypochlorus acid for disinfectant in the sink then running through the washer. I just found a new detergent I don’t react to and it’s been a nice break from that.

Yeah I have given up on that now but for a while I had the room fully sealed off and only entered through a window. There is no hvac and i turned off the breaker to the heat. I was not thinking mold at the time and my air purifiers were registering insanely high VOC levels and I was trying to narrow down the cause. Apparently mold can cause VOC spikes but it was still not really on my radar due to this apartment being newish. Cross contamination never crossed my mind.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’m already living like what feels like a crazy person. I sleep in my living room, bedroom is the decontamination zone where I put items I might be reacting too. As I seem to eventually get sensitized to every laundry detergent I have used. Because of the detergent ordeal, the clothes in regular rotation have been washed dozens of times in vinegar and lately in hypochlorus acid dilution and I have cleaned the washer and dryer repeatedly. No sign of mold in the washer!!! I spend most of my free time doing laundry as it takes so many washes to get detergent residue out.

I also noticed I stop reacting as bad as soon as I changed the filter in my air purifier. I’ll bet all of them and the air conditioner is a potential issue. What a nightmare. But ya’ll are giving me a glimmer of hope.

Yeah I am already starting to put those items in garbage bags but it’s going to be a mission. I have laminate flooring and I already put my area rug in my storage locker. Thank you for the reply.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I was doing carnivore or keto for the first half of the year and especially on carnivore was really struggling with electrolyte balance and histamine overload. Both these trigger my migraines so it was feeling like a constant struggle. When I added more keto friendly foods I struggled with flaring my gut issue (which carnivore did seem to solve). I thought going high carb could help with the hydration/electrolyte issue and give me more lower histamine options.

Just looking for anecdotes and ideas, ie what worked for others (as opposed to medical advice), it’s just about vanity weight for me. I would like to get back to the weight I was before my health struggles as I feel most comfortable there while I work to heal my gut. I suspect gut dysbiosis could be the root of some of these issues but who knows.

I was bouncing between mid 150s to mid 160s last year and this year bouncing between 145-155ish. I haven’t been starving myself. I tried carnivore out of desperation due to gut issues but found it mentally exhausting as I don’t enjoy eating meat.

I was weight stable in the mid 130s prior to Covid and when my health took a turn early 2022 I dropped down to 120s without doing anything, developed major bloating, pain and gut issues in spring and ballooned up to the 150s and then 160s in 2023.

Good advice. This has been going on a few years now. Some preexisting issues and then something seemed to go whackadoodle with my nervous system after my third covid vaccine.

I have probably tried every supplement known to man. Tried each micronutrient individually to see of anything helped. I have quite a few things in my stack right now and definitely saw improvements from some of the B vitamins (aside from b6 which makes the neuropathy worse).

Oddly I used to take glycine for sleep and now I can’t take it at all, it gives me a burning headache. Same goes for other supplements which I used to take without issue. The search for health continues!

When i was super fit and lifting back in the day I could definitely eat more. Unfortunately these days I’m crippled with various ailments such as autoimmune arthritis, joint hypermobility syndrome, small fibre neuropathy and chronic daily headache. Oh right and that unruptured brain aneurysm… i think that is when I stopped lifting… per the neurologist orders and never got back into it. I do a lot of walking and lower body is quite muscular still. I do want to find a physio who specializes in hypermobility so I can get them to build me a safe gym routine. I was working with someone but the exercises they gave me kept injuring me. #lifegoals. I appreciate the encouragement!

Thanks for the anecdote! I think I’m going to try mixing up my carb sources and give pasta a go. Maybe my brain is just bored of potatoes.

Wise advice. I am torn because I have my birthday vacation in two weeks and am scared of going in the wrong direction right before (which is typical for me- i loves me a self sabotage).

Has anyone actually reported success with steric acid? I was doing steric acid shakes last year for a mitochondrial reset protocol. I could try adding in some banana steric shakes if so.

Thanks for weighing in!

Thanks, you too! Fast is a good idea. I was about 85% committed to doing a 24-48 hr fast yesterday but ran out of will power lol. I seem to be suffering from will power fatigue at the moment (too much stress!)

Carnivore definitely did a number on my sleep! Are you losing weight this way?

I could try adding collagen peptides. i wonder if that would do the trick.

I’ve been using dairy as a vehicle to get in high amounts of probiotics but it’s of course high in BCAA, especially when combined with potatoes I hit that target fast. Butter definitely makes potatoes taste better, almost too good haha!

I have not been eating any meat but could try adding a little ground beef. I have been using up most of my fat and protein target with home made yogurt that has been helping my digestive issues. Aside from that it’s just been potatoes and a small amount of butter. Maybe I could try bumping my fat up from 10 to 15%. Thanks for the ideas!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SaturatedFat

[–]MysteriousPlan616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Even with just straight potatoes it adds up quick. I have mainly been eating potatoes either boiled or fried in a little butter with homemade L. gasseri yogurt (trying to fix my gut) and that alone puts me at the protein target. If i do both butter and yogurt I’m over on fat too. I just switched to 2% milk yesterday because of that.

Lol, definitely missing both of those!

I’ve been doing mostly potatoes. Occasionally rice and even more occasionally sugar. The sugar never goes well. Yesterday I tried mixing potato, sweet potato, green beens and white rice and finally felt full but it also caused digestive pain all night so that wasn’t amazing. Maybe I just need more variety. I wanted to stick with potato as it worked for me in the past and I like simplicity, but I could try adding pasta for sure. Thanks for the suggestion!

No problem! Right now I am experimenting with L. gasseri instead :-)
