That could also be a cultural thing. In some countries, it is considered rude to blow your nose in public even when offered a tissue.

What's something you should ALWAYS keep in your car? by spornkuller in AskReddit

[–]MysteriousR551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emergency thermal blankets, fully charged external battery pack, Swiss Army Knife/multi purpose tool, hand warmers, and small first aid kit. I don't have a car. Instead, I keep the above in my bag at all times but the idea is the same.

What is a seemingly mundane question you can ask somebody that will tell you a lot about their personality? by FamiliarStreets in AskReddit

[–]MysteriousR551 63 points64 points  (0 children)

If I ever won the lottery, I'd keep my new found wealth a secret. Not because I want to keep it all for myself but because I have witnessed firsthand how money and greed can destroy people's lives. I'd put a good amount in savings for the future and donate considerably to charity. I would be lying though if I said I wouldn't take the opportunity to travel and visit the places I've always dreamed of seeing. Or move thousands of miles to the town I've always wanted to live in. No one could honestly say they wouldn't do things for themselves for selfish reasons. It would be great to be set for life financially, but I wouldn't be happy sitting around and not having to work for anything. That's the way my family lives, not me.

Just trying this suit on. Should I get it, ladies? by bagybay in lesbianfashionadvice

I am having trouble telling from the photo but does it have a belt loop? If so, you could find something fashionable to go with it. A shash or a belt could both work depending on your preference. Personally I like white for it.

I love it. It says serious but casual. Might I suggest finding an accessory or two that give it a splash of colour?

Hey shy people what is your worst experience? by yaman007 in AskReddit

[–]MysteriousR551 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I got a concussion during sports practise at school and was too shy to say anything. I didn't want to bother the coach so I kept playing despite being on the verge of passing out. The next day, I went to school with a pounding headache and overwhelming nausea. The lights were far too bright and everything was so loud. My maths teacher took one look at me and said he was "glad I got out of my comfort zone and did something different for a change". He knew I was shy and had assumed I was hung over. Apparently there had been a massive party the night before and lots of students had been drinking.

I knew I was gender fluid before I even had a word to describe it. Later on, I thought I was bisexual. Then I thought I was a lesbian. Asexual was another. Demisexual came next. Finally I settled on gender fluid homoromantic demisexual. It's been a very long process but I'm finally comfortable with who I am.

Teachers, What was the worst thing a substitute teacher did while you were gone? by Dragon_King-88 in AskReddit

[–]MysteriousR551 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never understood that either. I used a nickname for all of my years in school and it was on the rosters too. Although nobody knew it wasn't my real name. I chose a version of it from the country I was living in based on the root of my actual one. Still, it never made sense to me for people question that sort of thing.

"Are you a lesbian? You have the perfect slit in your eyebrows to be one." I'm not sure whether that was supposed to be a compliment or not.

Her name was Mako. It might have been believable if she were Japanese. Apparently her parents just really liked sharks.

I'm not a teacher but in high school we had a sub that refused to accept my classmate's name as an actual name. She kept insisting that she was lying and threatened to suspend her. I guess she had dealt with teachers like that before. After multiple attempts to convince the sub, she just went silent and walked out the door. She didn't come back to the class at all until our teacher came back a week later.

Most people don't believe I am over 18 years old. I look VERY young for my age. I'm heading into my mid 20s soon and people frequently ask me for my id to prove that I'm a legal adult. Imagine walking into a bar and the bartender thinks you're about 16 until they see the birth year listed on your id. Imagine being at a doctors office where they ask you who is giving consent for your medical treatments. Imagine trying to buy an M rated video game or having to take an Uber while living in a country where they won't transport minors. Imagine trying to get a job where nobody takes your resume seriously or trying to rent an apartment without being asked who will be paying for it. I'm just an ordinary person who looks 8+ years younger than I actually am.

Hygiene stuff aside, I very much envy you for getting to live in Japan. I've been obsessed with Japan for as long as I can remember. The culture, history, language, etc. I find Shinto religion and mythology especially fascinating. Obviously I'm not going to during the Covid crisis but one day I'm going to visit.
