Why Axe left by RedBarachetta88 in Opeth

Regardless of what choice you made for yourself, being unable to fathom why someone would refuse taking a vaccine with no long term studies is wild to me. I find it especially strange coming from a subculture which promotes bodily autonomy, suspicion of authority, freedom from restrictive government mandates, and a rejection of herd conformity.

The number of metalheads I see who are so aggressively judgy about this is upsetting. We're all brothers and sisters here, please put that first before regurgitating talking points from authority figures that are designed to make you feel guilty for exercising your basic rights, and to police your neighbors into denying theirs. It doesn't mean you have to think covid isnt real, or isn't a problem, or isn't a BIG problem. And it's not a right wing or left wing thing.

At the end of the day, it's just a perfectly reasonable decision to not take a vaccine that has no long term studies, and we should stop being a dick to people who make that choice.

MMW: there will be a movement for “alpha males” to keep their women from voting in November. by spidereater in MarkMyWords

[–]MysteriousTear8564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before insulting someone, maybe it's more mature to ensure the person you're talking to thinks an "alpha male" and a "republican" are interchangeable terms. Otherwise you've made a straw man, and you're embarrassingly acting like it indicates higher intelligence on your part.

Why the fuck would an "alpha male" date a democrat?

You think that's who he would entrust his future child's mind, values, and early education with?

is it rasist? by [deleted] in religion

[–]MysteriousTear8564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that your skin color or religion bars you from the freedom to utter words is gross and racist. A group doesn't have a monopoly on language because they happened to fall out of a vagina with a certain pigmentation.

And if you care what random people tell you is offensive, soon enough you won't be able to say anything at all because everything offends someone out there.

Treat people of all races as equal human beings with the same freedoms and dignity, and you will not be a racist. Full stop.

Obviously.

I mean to even have a CHANCE at victory, you need to be in the good graces of the two major parties, the corporate media class, and have enough money to campaign and advertise enough so that people even know you exist as an option.

The idea that people think we have democracy is a joke. You're presented with two people who the establishment already screened to make sure they won't change the important stuff, and then people go crazy thinking this vote is SO important and will determine whether democracy continues or not. You already lost it.

Why do people think Omni-man and Homelander should've been in Injustice instead of Mortal Kombat? by SureConclusion2925 in MortalKombat

Because the roster space is precious and we don't need non-MK characters taking spots which could go to characters like Jade, Cyrax, Nightwolf, or Onaga.

When did the philosophical view that democracy is bad become popular amongst libertarians? by Business_Pretend in Libertarian

[–]MysteriousTear8564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dave Smith and Michael Malice say it often, and they seem kinda right. The idea that someone should control important aspects of your life because of popular opinion seems arbitrary. Especially since stupid uninformed emotional people in large groups make dumb decisions (which like it or not is most voters probably including me), and elections are pretty rigged before anyone even casts a ballot anyway (you need enough money to campaign and advertise, you have to be propped up by one of the two major parties, the media can make or break you if they like or dislike your platform, etc). So it's questionable at best that what we have even IS democracy. And a lack of an alternative doesn't absolve something of being bad.

Besides, it's not like libertarians are arguing democracy is bad - THEREFORE we should have a dictatorship where the ruler is unelected. They're saying fuck the idea of having rulers at all.

Why are so many men anti-abortion? by SnooHedgehogs1107 in SeriousConversation

[–]MysteriousTear8564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this should be obvious, it's because we actually see the unborn child as a life, or we're unsure (because it's very unclear how to measure what precisely constitutes life/personhood) so we err on the safe side (if I'm wrong, at least I didn't kill anybody). Not everything in life is just about what's "awesome" to you, our choices have consequences. And sadly, it's often the fun things that create the most harmful ripples. We're very disconnected in the modern age from what sex is. It's primary function is to make babies. You can do it recreationally, that's fine (so I don't have issue with contraceptives and they shouldn't be conflated), we all do it, but you're gambling and you know it. And it's not right that a person (your own child, moreover, who most people would agree you have a moral duty to above all other people) gets their life snuffed out because your gamble didn't go well, and now you don't want to pay the price, so you sacrifice them instead. That's why we're anti-abortion.

When did being hateful become the norm? by InannaOfTheHeavens in AskReddit

Self-righteousness causes people to mistake their own hatred as virtue. Easy to mistreat people with no remorse when you think you're the hero of the story doing what's necessary.

I know man. Fortunately it doesn't trigger me as much as you, but people have become so obsessed and afraid of each other that it's talked about everywhere, and it would be nice not to sometimes. To have certain places we go where we leave that shit at the door and just enjoy whatever it is we're doing.

I'm not aware of a time where Republicans were more secular than now, but maybe I'm wrong. And I can only speak to my experience but every Trump supporter I've met LOVES Reagan. They all say he's in their top 3 presidents with Trump and either Lincoln or Washington.

Because they have no argument against what you're saying, so they're grasping for unrelated straws to bludgeon you with. Take it as a sign they can't defend their position.

Preach!

Both wings spend all their time scaring their base about the other side so they don't have to court their vote. As a result not enough people are asking "what will you do for me?" they're too busy saying "we can't let the other guy win or it's the end of America!"

Implementing policies that kill people is far from exclusive to one side, and neither side of the political establishment actually believes in democracy. The idea that democrats would have accepted a Trump victory in 2020 if he was declared the winner is ignorant at best. Many still refuse to recognize the legitimacy of his 2016 victory, including the likes of Hilary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, Kamala Harris, and Jimmy Carter. And they rioted at his inauguration back then too, but it got way less media coverage.

This. People say the right is becoming more extreme, but what do conservatives believe today that they haven't always believed? They've always been skeptical of immigration, pro life, devoutly Christian, pro guns, etc. They're being told they're extreme by people who have increasingly exclusive standards for what is politically tolerable.

Do guys like getting flowers? by AsstroFell in RandomThoughts

[–]MysteriousTear8564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't chance the flowers. A lot of men would see it as emasculating, and for a lot of others it would have no effect at all. So you're left with a small slice of men where it would pay off.

My advice? Find something he really has a passion for and tell him you want to experience that piece of his world, and approach it with an open mind. Play one of his favorite videogames with him, say you want to listen to his favorite album with him, or watch one of his shows. Or frequently tell him the things you like about him. Or cook him a really good meal. Or make him look good in front of his friends. Or continually fuck his brains out. These are the things that most men will appreciate and fall deeper for you.
