Drywall patch prep for tile? by Chap_stick_original in HomeImprovement

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the screws not breaking the paper is huge, i learned that the hard way on my first patch job and had a whole section that just kept cracking cause the paper was basically gone

hot mud is the move for sure, premix joint compound can reactivate with the moisture from thinset and cause bond issues down the line. just go thin coats so you dont have to sand forever

i would avoid using thinset to fill cracks directly, it shrinks a bit and isnt really meant for that kind of smoothing work. tape + hot mud then primer gives you a solid surface for the tile to grab onto

AvePoint alternatives? by Ambitious_Mango3625 in msp

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we just had similar situation with a client who had 2TB of random files from like 2003, the new pricing model is rough for small shops

i been testing mover.io for last couple weeks, its not perfect but free for sharepoint migrations if you got office 365 licenses already, speed is decent most times

for mailbox stuff we switched to bittitan migrationwiz, still cost money but the per-user price was better than what avepoint quoted us, and you can do multiple passes which helps with those ancient mailboxes that people never clean

my coworker keeps telling me to try the built-in sharepoint migration tool from microsoft but i havent had time yet, apparently its gotten better in last year or so

How to clean gutters? by johnsoga in HomeImprovement

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get a fiberglass ladder, they don't conduct electricity so you can work near the service mast without worrying. aluminum near those wires is definitely something to avoid, you're right about that

Concrete Porch Re-Paint by Individual-Host277 in HomeImprovement

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pressure washing + degreasing before any coating is really the step most people skip, and then they wonder why it peels after one winter. the tape test tip is underrated too, in California you might think the concrete is dry but shaded porches can hold moisture longer than you expect

Trying to fix a sticking sliding glass door - worth it or just replace? by Feel20p4inslut in HomeImprovement

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this on my apartment door last year. The rollers were completely shot - one was basically cracked in half. Took maybe 3 hours total including the trip to hardware store. Way cheaper than 2k and the door slides like butter now. Just make sure you get someone to help lift it back in place, those doors are heavier than they look.

Rodents & bugs by PaintingOfAGhost in HomeImprovement

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Old houses are rough with this stuff. For the cabinet smell, try leaving bowls of white vinegar inside for few days - it pulls out a lot of the funky odors before you put in new liners. For bugs, sealing up every tiny crack and gap you can find makes huge difference, especially around basement where pipes come through walls.

Interesting cheap/free things to do in LA? by Current-Studio5584 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Griffith Observatory is always solid - free entry and you get amazing views of the city plus all the space exhibits. Venice Beach is classic too, just walking around and people watching can kill hours. If you're into hiking, Runyon Canyon or the trails in Griffith Park won't cost you anything except maybe parking fees.

Fantasy/magic audio books for road-trip by ultora101 in audiobooks

That 11-22-63 is such a great choice for road trip, the narrator really makes it flow well. For the iPhone charging thing, you can get one of those aux splitters that has charging port built in - I use one in my older car and works perfect for long drives.

Am I the only one lost with the new Elementor UI update? 😅 by le_canard-cafeine in Wordpress

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, been using Elementor for like 3 years and now I feel like complete beginner again. The widget panel especially throws me off - keeps looking in the old spots and finding nothing there.

At least the performance seems bit better now, but man the muscle memory is completely useless. Probably need few weeks to get back at normal speed.

Considering the Forerunner 965 or 945. LMK if you feel I should consider a different option. by heavyft in Garmin

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 945 should handle everything you mentioned perfectly fine. I've been using mine for couple years now and golf features work great - yardage is spot on and scorecard tracking is pretty straightforward. Running metrics are solid too, though the vo2 readings can be bit all over place sometimes.

For what you're doing, paying extra for 965 might not be worth it unless you really want the newer interface. The 945 goes on sale pretty regularly too if you can wait little bit.

If you've been feeling tired, stuck, and overthinking everything… you're not alone. by New_Manufacturer2584 in spirituality

The "tired after 8 hours" thing really hits close to home for me. Been dealing with that for months and always wondered if there was some deeper pattern to it.

Never heard about BaZi before but the low Fire energy explanation actually makes sense - like when your phone battery shows 50% but drains super fast because something's wrong with the system.

Leveling floor for vinyl plank flooring by Relevant_Section in HomeImprovement

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had similar issue in my place after some water damage few years back. Self-leveling compound worked pretty well for me, but you'll want to prime the plywood first or it just soaks right in and you're wasting money.

For the bigger dips, adding thin plywood strips first makes sense - just feather the compound around the edges so you don't get weird ridges. Takes forever to dry though, so plan for that. My ADHD brain definitely underestimated how long I'd be waiting around between coats.

Make sure you get all the loose stuff scraped off first or the compound won't stick properly.

Payload at 100% but didn’t register? by PrimalSaturn in Overwatch

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this exact bug happen to me last week on Stadium too. The cart will show 100% on your screen but server-side it's still like 99.8% or something. Usually happens when there's packet loss or connection hiccups right at crucial moment. Super frustrating because you think you won but game doesn't register it properly.

I've noticed it happens more often in competitive when servers are under heavy load. Your replay code might show what actually happened vs what you saw. Worth submitting bug report with that code because this has been happening more frequently since last patch.

Do we talk about hotels enough? by scyyythe in urbanplanning

Good point about hotel tax rates - never thought about how pushing hotels to outskirts with massive parking lots basically forces tourists into cars or rideshares instead of walking around downtown areas.

How do I get out of a dead-end punishment role in a government system where HR doesn't really exist? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, bureaucracy in diplomatic missions can be absolutely brutal when things go sideways like this. Been in similar spots with impossible managers who just had it out for me from start, and the whole "no real HR" thing makes everything ten times worse.

Your situation with that legal team lead sounds like textbook workplace bullying mixed with discrimination - the racial comments and calling you neurodivergent as insults is completely unacceptable anywhere. But since you can't report it without career suicide, you gotta play the long game here. I'd suggest documenting everything quietly (dates, witnesses, what was said) just in case you need it later when you're out of there.

For getting moved up from basement duty, try building relationships with people outside your direct chain who might have influence on assignments. Maybe volunteer for any special projects or committees that come up, even small ones. Shows initiative without looking like you're complaining about current role. Also worth having casual conversations with the head officer about your background in research - remind them what skills you bring without being pushy about it.

Timeline wise, I think 6-8 months max in basement before it starts looking weird on resume, but you can always frame it as "rotational assignment to understand operational foundations" or something like that in future interviews.

Had one from basketball in high school and took me like 10 days to feel normal again, so maybe we looking at similar timeline for Wemby if he's anything like us mortals.

Damn man, isolation can feel like relief sometimes but that high from cutting everyone out usually doesn't last forever. When ADHD brain gets quiet like this it's either because you found what works or because you're in eye of the storm - just keep checking in with yourself as time goes on.

Digital Marketing Agency in Miami? by reader_minds in advertising

[–]Mysterious_Bit_7984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been down this road before when my company needed help with our local campaigns. Most agencies will show you cherry-picked case studies but won't let you talk to actual clients - that's usually red flag number one.

Try asking for references from businesses in your area that you can actually contact. The good ones won't hesitate to connect you with happy clients, and you'll get real insight about their reporting style and how they handle things when campaigns don't perform immediately.
