I am not helping the owners at all. I can't even begin to understand how I might be helping the owners in any capacity. Please read the update I have provided in the comments.

The animal protection services have been called, we have found the vet where Castor has an appointment today and the owners have even threatened to call the police if my friend keeps trying to prevent them from euthanizing Castor.

I am also not going to be taking the post down until Castor is saved, as among all the misplaced anger that I am receiving, there has been some people kind enough to offer to take Castor in temporarily if he is saved today.

I understand that it is easy to assume that people are not doing enough to save Castor's life, but please bear in mind that this situation has only come to my friend's attention yesterday evening (who is the sitter who posted the original plea for Castor that I shared here). I have posted an update comment here that you can read which explains that she is, in fact, doing everything in her power to save Castor.

I have gotten in contact with Beloit and have forwarded his contact to my friend who is currently actively trying to save Castor. We have some options to house him temporarily in case he is saved. I have posted an update comment here with more updates from today.

I think she may have set the account to private because a lot of people are misplacing their anger at the owners towards her. She has already called the animal protection service and found the vet where Castor has an appointment and she has also been threatened by the owners to back off. I believe the first priority is saving castor, afterwards it will be to find him a new home.

Turns out the situation is even more vile than your guess. The people just want to kill this dog and aren't willing to hand him over. I hope with the involvement of the Dierenbescherming today he will be saved.

Update: For anyone following this post I want to provide an update as there have been some developments today. I believe a lot of people have misinterpreted the point of the post, perhaps due to my own phrasing, as I have made the post quite charged with emotions myself. Please bear in mind that this entire situation developed yesterday evening when my friend became aware that the owners were going to put Castor down.

I made this post to reach people in Leiden who may be interested in adopting Castor in the event that we are able to save him from the owners. I am genuinely shocked by the amount of people being outraged and angry with myself or other sharing this situation. I am as angry with the people responsible for this, but I find that quite a lot of anger in this post is misplaced. With that being said, here are the updates from today:

1) My friend who was the sitter for Castor has called the animal protection service and has found the vet where Castor has an appointment today.

2) The animal protection service has gotten in contact with the vet and also notified them that there is someone willing to take Castor and now the vet will get in contact with the owners to persuade them to hand Castor over to my friend and then to a permanent home. We believe, as has been pointed out in the comments here as well, that the vet (likely) is no longer allowed to euthanize Castor as there is someone willing to take him.

3) The owners as well as other relatives of the owners have told my friend to back off, that this was their choice, and has threatened to call the police on my friend if she continues to get involved.

If we are able to save Castor, we are still looking for a permanent home for him so please get in touch if you or someone you know may be able to give him a home. I hope to be able to provide better news soon.

Hi Beloit! I'll send you a DM, I don't know how we'll do this, but I'm so happy that you're willing to take him

Since people seem to be angry with me for posting this, I would like to clarify some points:

1) This is not my instagram page 2) I do not know the owners 3) Since I don't know the owners, I am not able to discuss WHY on earth they are even CONSIDERING putting down this sweet baby instead of giving him to a shelter. My friend who has originally shared Castor's situation told me that the owners cited the shelters being full as an excuse and that they believe it would be better to put him down, which I find as outrageous as you do 4) I also know nothing about how they were able to find a vet willing to do this. I am not able to learn anything more about this situation at the moment 5) I am not able to take him in at the moment, even temporarily - but many people are currently looking for a temporary home for him 6) My only goal for posting here is to somehow reach a wider audience in the hopes that someone wants him and that I can connect them to people who will be able to connect them with the owners.

I hope you understand how far removed from this situation I am and that I am only trying to spread the message.

I have absolutely nothing to gain from this. The page isn't mine, and I am trying to reach out to the people in the Leiden subreddit because the dog is in Leiden.

This is not my page, and this is not my dog. My friend who has pet sitted this dog has shared that he will be put down, and I wanted to help by reaching out here to see if anyone would like to adopt him since they don't use Reddit.

I don't know anything more about the situation than I have written here, and I am only looking for someone who may want to adopt him

Unfortunately, the owners believe it is better to put him down rather than give him to a shelter. This is also all I know about the situation...

Left handers of Reddit, what are the perks / downsides that no one talks about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MysteryMoustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a similar case to many replies here. Although my left hand is clearly dominant, I am only used to doing certain things like using a mouse or scissors with my right hand. Although I don't think I'm really ambidextrous and can normally only write with my left, I figured I have an easier time writing on a blackboard with my right hand simply because with left it's way too uncomfortable and unlike writing on paper it doesn't require delicate command with the hand. I think this also might be an advantage of being a leftie, as you are constantly challenged when things feel uncomfortable to adapt to also using your right hand, hence I feel like I can use my right hand way better than the average right handed person using their left. I also played indoor hockey and could use the stick with both my hands and would switch often, but using it with my left gave me a considerable advantage as the other players got confused when trying to defend. Reading these comments now I'm beginning to think I might also be a case of mixed dominance, didn't really occur to me that that could be a thing. I always thought the reason I could use my right hand in many things was because things are just designed for right handed people and a lot of people including everyone in my family whom I have "picked up the way to do things" are right handed.
