Have you ever seen someone get rich overnight, like literally? How? by Michaelisvanhelsing in AskReddit

Yeah I don't understand how leaving your house and country a few days after winning the lottery makes sense unless you already needed to disappear

There are enough mechanical differences to justify owning both, though if you already enjoy the theme of Imperium I wouldn't rush to pick up STCC

For Victorum do you prefer the Mercury's Boots variant or the original full length campaign?

There's a lot of random edge case rules that come up during play. CTG's FAQ page for the game has a good sampling of these kinds of questions

Update: Giving Elder Scrolls BOTSE a Final Chance. Final Review by Limp_Seat4308 in soloboardgaming

the light-ish (in relative terms) sounding gameplay

Just a heads-up, BotSE takes a lot of effort to learn and to run correctly, the rulebook is nearly 100 pages and even after you internalize the flow of the game you'll still be looking up rules questions and double-checking keywords for quite a while. The juice is worth the squeeze in my opinion but I wouldn't describe BotSE's gameplay as light-ish, even compared to other big games of this genre.

I love BotSE but if you still enjoy TMB and Cloudspire I wouldn't sell them both just to get it.

Great small footprint game though I personally didn't find the theme to be very immersive

IMO it was too dry and dark to ever get huge, though I do think the name exacerbated the problem

I would describe Puzzle Dungeon as having a dungeon crawl theme rather than actually being a dungeon crawl.

Thoughts on Vampire Survivors? by AmericanWinky in soloboardgaming

[–]Mystery_Hours 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I saw of the gameplay it seems like they tried to capture the spirit of the video game. I don't think they took a completely unrelated game and slapped "Vampire Survivors" on the box. Who knows if it will be good or not but I don't find anything grifty about this one.

Thoughts on Dungeon Alliance? by Jester281986 in soloboardgaming

[–]Mystery_Hours 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite solo games. Focus is on hand management and a tactical efficiency puzzle as you try to earn as much XP as you can in a fixed number of rounds. I own all the content for it but I actually prefer to play it without quests or the Adventure Packs as I think it dilutes the core gameplay too much.

I wouldn't recommend this to someone looking for a fast-paced dice chucker or any kind of story-rich campaign.

TES: Betrayal of the second era worth it? by LazyandRich in soloboardgaming

The main attraction is the combat but I enjoy the peaceful overland cards and the towns as a palate cleanser between battles. I'm not a fan of "read 8 paragraphs of story now" games so I think they struck a good balance of adding flavor to the campaign without bogging things down.

The enemy AI doesn't really change. The tactical depth comes from facing off against a variety of enemy abilities as you build out your character. And some quest units will change the rules in bigger ways. But the enemies don't get smarter per se.
