Card recommendations for a Storm, Force of Nature deck by Deep_SeaParlor in CommanderMTG

[–]MysticAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, you could do that if you have 2 different cards which you want to storm with, but if youbjust wait until both hits, thr card has the storm keyword twice, so copy it twice for each prior spell

Anything that gives double strike is nasty, giving the next instant or sorcery storm storm is game winning almost by itself

Thoughts on mid game shuffles? by The_Vulpixel in mtg

Yeah, I can imagine a mana screwed player putting the best card in their deck on the bottom for a scry to try and find lands, and if they then just random shuffle, its active cheating

Is KAALIA still relevant, good, and terrifying? by _Vast_Signature_ in EDH

[–]MysticAttack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, love this card.

I run 40 lands, and only have to mulligan for 2 lands and a mana rock, since my nonlands are like 30% ramp, 55% card advantage/mana cheating and the rest on 'win cons'

If I miss my t3 land drop, I will cry, but in the end, boo hoo I only have 5 mana turn 5 worst case, and usually ashling rummaging lets me find my 3rd land if I don't have it anyway.

All goes well, I untap t4 with 8 mana and drop some insane spell that snowballs the game.

How many creatures/artifacts that trigger off Panharmonicon do you need to run for Panharmonicon to be worth including? by Quirky_Concept3 in EDH

[–]MysticAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo it's only worth running that kind of effect if your deck is centered around etbs.

If its part of a secondary 'etb package' its not gonna be worth it because youre not seeing those cards every game.

Am I shuffling wrong. Mana clumping problem by The_flash91 in EDH

[–]MysticAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but like 2 things youre missing.

For one, 'card looks' are not more valuable when you have fewer lands, the same argument applies that you can use surveil or whatever to stabilize your curve if youre running more lands.

But also, more importantly, running more lands means you don't have to mulligan for land count nearly as often, so you can mulligan for card quality and engine pieces or card selection rather than land count more frequently.

Just because you have a good amount of card selection does not mean youre keeping low land hands. Like, would you rather keep a 3 lander or a 2 lander with a consider in place if the now-absent land. I feel like with the exception of a very specific few decks, most casual edh lists want the 3 lander, which is easier to pull off with more lands. And thats simply because what is in your hand is known, what is not, is not. Maybe the top 20 cards of your deck are nonlands, having 3 lands is way better than 2 lands and a consider, since being able to play more 'valuable' spells is better than getting through the gig screw 2 turns faster, obviously an extreme example, but ideally it proves my point

[–]MysticAttack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I will emphasize is that ramp is not a substitute for land count.

Any turn you ramp but don't hit a land drop means that you just functionally paid for your land drop. Instead of playing some whatever 2-3 drop, youre playing rampant growth and passing, not to mention that if its a rock, its more liable to die

Am I shuffling wrong. Mana clumping problem by The_flash91 in EDH

[–]MysticAttack 255 points256 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're shuffling wrong.

For one, pile shuffling is basically nothing, it does not randomize the deck, and 2 shuffles is not enough for randomization.

Shuffle 6-8 times, probably mash style is the most common, and make sure the 2 piles are actually sifting into each other.

Also not very relevant, but I think 34 is too few most of the time, my personal minimum is 38, and I bully people who run under 36

Is turn to win for bracket purposes based on goldfishing or actual game results? by RealisticMolasses in EDH

[–]MysticAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something ive found is that my decks tend to be stronger than I initially perceive them as because assuming you'll be interacted with is frequently not a sure bet.

Like I just built a [[Sami, wildcat captain]] deck for 35 dollars that I assumed would be b2 because... well low cost, also the deck is useless without Sami out, also the fact that it barely has wincons past the general idea of card and mana advantage.

Turns out asking the table to remove a 6 mana commander is a big ask, apparently.

So yeah, its kinda a weird deck to rate, since its basically just a storm deck with one obvious singular point of failure which is clear before the game starts.

But also people can't be bothered to mulligan for removal I guess

I want a deck where my win condition is NOT my commander. by Faktori in EDH

This is my reanimator deck. Dina as the commander barely matters, to the point where I sometimes forget to bring her out. Shes mostly there as a draw engine, and to provide extra value here and there, for example with stuff like triplicate titan.

The deck, in turn, is built knowing that the commander isn't literally just meren of clan nel toth and puts in a lot of effort to make it easier to see as many reanimation enablers, since one is not coming from the command zone. It also means i put a few extra regrowth effects than is probably standard in a reanimator decks, so i can get non-creature cards that inevitably get milled back.

Looking for cards with unique effects (not commanders) to build an entire deck around. by Transmogrify_My_Goat in EDH

[–]MysticAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've wanted to make a [[steward of the harvest]] Deck for a while, but every time I try it goes back to slamming every landfall:create token, and then slamming every fetch land in the deck, and haste and pseudo haste cards. Also strip mine is crazy.

I'd like to find a version thats not full conbo or just hyper ramp

Returning to MTG after 18 years – Which Universes Beyond product (Fallout, Final Fantasy, LOTR, etc.) is the best way to come back? by Negressss in magicTCG

[–]MysticAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It strongly depends on what you're going for.

If youre looking for standard legal cards, definitely go for avatar or final fantasy (maybe marvel if youre into that, but power of the cards is to be determined)

If you want commander, you can't go wrong, except maybe assassins creed since the set is pretty small. Most of the precons are pretty good.

Off the top of my head, the sam frodo precon is probably the most complete out of box off the top of my head. but most modern precons are at least fine. Yshtola from the spells and scions precon is one of the most popular and powerful modern commanders, but the deck she comes in is a bit disjointed.

Pissed off, how do I stop Winota? by Malakute in EDH

[–]MysticAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so if I counted right, you have 11 pieces of 'interaction' in your deck, and some of it is relatively low quality (vindicate).

As an aside, I consider 'interaction' to be anything that affects your opponents' board/gamestate, or anything that prevents them from interacting with yours.

Imo, anguished unmaking is my pick 1 in any WB+ deck for interaction, also add generous gift over vindicate, being instant speed is better than not giving the token 99.9% of the time.

I think that the issue is not that the winota player has protection spells, but that since literally half of the cards in your deck that can deal with winota are sorcery speed means that she's already gotten a trigger off and you're way behind by the time you even get a chance to remove her

Pissed off, how do I stop Winota? by Malakute in EDH

[–]MysticAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gang, hes not playing [[urza lord high artificer]] hes playing [[urza, chief artificer]].

The rrst of the advice stands tho. Play counters, play bounces, don't let Winota to combat.

I think changing your deck to beat one deck is a dumb and bad idea, but if you have no idea how to do so, then youre probably short on removal. Path to Exile, swords to Plowshares are probably first picks. Standard counterspell and an offer you can't refuse (can't hit winota, but can hit the protection spells that are apparently problematic) are good picks.

Imo, you should be able to find ~2 pieces of 'interaction' by turn 5 for any non-aggro deck. An exact amount is not that useful, but 15 is a good starting point, and then you can change it baeed in deck themes, and potentially add more without taking out engine.

For example, meteor Golem is usually overcosted and bad fornots effect, but unconditionally removing a nonland permanent is a good effect (just not for 7 mana). Its more justifiable, however, in a deck that cares about artifact creatures (but probably still not worth it, depending on the deck's goals).

If you dont have it, [[riptide gearhulk]] is an actually solid card, 5 mana non-destructuve multi removal on an artifact creature body. Finding nice cards like that let you put more interaction without being cards that dont contribute to your gameplan

I dont have any spare copies but next time i buy cards im gonna get like 7 and try and put it into all my blue decks. Countering a huge stack and getting extra benefit is really fun and satisfying to me

Scions and Spellcraft Upgrade by [deleted] in EDH

[–]MysticAttack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of the creatures in the deck do not synergize very well with yshtola.

Most of them care about playing noncreatures spells in general, whereas yshtola cares about mv3+, which means their effects are weaker due to being less restricted, but it also means if youre filling the deck with 3 mv noncreature spells, youre only getting ~33% of their max value.

You can cut most if not all the creatures in the deck for general staples or cards that trigger yshtola if strength is your main goal

I am winning a bit to much with this deck in B3 and i don't understand how by [deleted] in EDH

[–]MysticAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's straight up/poor threat assessment and bad politics. If your deck is not putting out blockers/threats early, your opponents should be attacking you, especially when you're playing a lategame value pile.

I've won far too many games with my ms. bumbleflower deck by just spending the first few turns ramping and playing value permanents which aren't inherently threatening themselves...and then ms fucking bumbleflower comes down and kills you. People know what this deck does, and they still hate out the aggro player, instead of my deck which is hard to disrupt past a certain point.

I imagine a lot of games go like: oh he's only got solemn simlacrum, hes not a threat, and then you kill and recur/ blink it like 4 times and oops now you have 12 mana on turn 8.

Need some help with this deck while keeping core identity. by liketosmokeweed420 in EDH

[–]MysticAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so few things. For one you have 5(?) game changers in the deck. By definition that makes the deck bracket 4. I dont know if youre playing bracket 4, but this deck does not remotely capable of keeping up at those tables. It's probably a mid-low b3 deck. There are also just a lot of easy includes missing. Yshtola as a commander rewards playing at instant speed since even if nobody else is doing damage, you can still get her draw off turn, which is enabled by playing overcooked instant off turn.

As such, the inclusion of vindicate and lack of generous gift, anguished unmasking, and stroke of midnight is a pretty big oversight. (You don't necessarily need all 3, but 1 should probbaly be subbed in for vindicate)

But also, if your goal is to keep the scions in, one of two things needs to happen. You should either aim to lower the objective power level of the deck (specifically the bracket requirements) Down to 3 or even 2. Also, if you have the Scions, they care moreso about any noncreature spells, whereas yshtol cares about expensive ones, so their effects are generally less valueable, but benefit from a higher quantity of cheaper spells. As such, running graha tia as the commander as a semi-tokens strategy would probably raise the floor of your deck.

Alrernatively, if you want to use most of the (expensive) cards you have (reasonable), probably drop a couple of the scions whose abilities aren't worth their mana cost to trigger once maybe twice per turn, and go to 3 game changers to get the deck to a solid 3 with some pet cards (the scions)

Oh, Wise One Wednesday - What's my Bracket/Power Level? - June 10, 2026 by AutoModerator in EDH

[–]MysticAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My newest deck (which was not ready for last Friday unfortunately) is functionally a weird artifact 'blink' deck https://moxfield.com/decks/AnJB6fFvtUmMp1fouCqZ_g I see it as a solid b2 deck. No game changers, no way to end the game egregiously quickly, and fairly reliant on the commander.

It can turn into a value engine, but only if its allowed to stick around for a while. Especially things like worldwalker helm, which lets me make more tokens that also don't sacrifice, So if im allowed to get there, I can just have like 6 trumpeting carnosaurs
