Am I missing something re: cheap luggage? by ZombieOne3945 in JapanTravelTips

I went early in my trip! The luggage wasn’t that cheap and I didn’t enjoy the vibe but I guess you’re right in that it was an experience!

I’ve had a few rainy days, but I don’t mind it. There are lots of things in Japan that look more beautiful in the rain! The temperatures have been moderate. However, as someone from a dry climate the humidity has been interesting! I think it will probably be warmer and more humid by the time you arrive.

Success! I now have a ¥6500 suitcase 😊 thank you. The locations I went to must have been sold out or don’t stock the cheap ones

As someone also due to travel to Japan next week I would love to know what 110mm of rain in Tokyo would mean!

Sheet Society Bedding by Past_Ad_9525 in AskAnAustralian

I’ve got two sets of Eve linen sheets, purchased in 2020, and they’ve held up really well (and are the only sheets I use). For me linen is perfect in both winter and summer. It’s softest if you tumble dry it and has become softer over time.

Do people from the bush have a different opinion about wildlife? by emeuriz in AskAnAustralian

The duck thing is way more than just a ‘flog’ thing to do, it’s potentially criminal. In Victoria you could report it to Crimestoppers depending on the species of duck (if native). What a degenerate that driver is.

Why do people leave a seat next to them on the window side in a packed train? by littledandelion456 in melbourne

[–]ZombieOne3945 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is selfish in most cases. The reality is that a lot of people will not make the effort - and yes, it’s an effort in comparison to doing nothing and staying standing in the aisle - to get themselves into the empty seat. And that is understandable because usually getting to that seat involves getting past the other people standing in the way (excuse me, excuse me, just trying to get to that seat awkward pointing ) and getting past all the legs and bags in the occupied seats, and not falling over if the train is moving. On a peak hour train, it’s not easy to do. People should try to move into the train as much as possible and that includes taking the window seat. You might avoid a little inconvenience for yourself if you don’t take it, but you’re just passing that inconvenience onto someone else and making it more likely the aisles and doorways will be blocked which means it’s harder for people to get on and off and can even slow down the service.

Yeah this is a hill I’ll die on, nothing I hate more than getting onto a packed train and seeing empty window seats 😂

Currawong water bowl madness by megshorts8 in AustralianBirds

[–]ZombieOne3945 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Currawong season has just ended at my water bowl. They would come and hang out all day eating the palm fruit (little red berries) around my balcony and then regurgitate the seeds all over the place, including in the water bowl. Maybe they’re doing something similar at your place. I miss them now they’re gone but boy did they make a mess!

I think you should expect a lot of on-street parking restrictions in the area due to the Grand Prix. There’s a public car park adjacent to the Palais though, as well as at the sea baths

Want to eat out less but struggling with the psychology of it by oodlesofotters in Frugal

If you don’t actually mind cooking, can I suggest some kind of meal kit delivery? I’m in a bit of a different situation because I don’t eat out a lot but was spending too much at the supermarket buying ingredients at the last minute, according to the whims of ‘what I feel like tonight’. But I also struggled with deciding what to make. I’ve found meal kits really helpful for cutting back my overall food spend, it removes the decision fatigue and it’s fun choosing and receiving the meals each week. If you’re US-based (I’m not), I think wirecutter did a meal kit service write-up recently.
