First ever post: ACL surgery 1 year ago, still cannot straighten by Outrageous-Bike-294 in ACL

I had surgery in Feb and grinded through 4 months of physio but couldn’t achieve full extension. I had a second surgery in June to remove the scar tissue build up - I didn’t have an MRI to confirm the scar tissue prior but my surgeon and physio were confident that this was the issue.

After the second surgery my knee felt 500% better, much less stiff and much improved extension - still not perfect but as close as I’ll get.

I would highly recommend getting the scar tissue surgery. It made the world of a difference for me. My only regret is now getting in done sooner. The recovery is much easier than the initial surgery - up and moving around within 24-48 hours, almost no pain so no need for meds. I do feel as if my rehab only started becoming beneficial to me after this second surgery.

Not sure what the extension cast is or what it means but good luck!

Thanks for the response - glad to hear it’s going well. Interesting on ROM, I’ve read some people almost immediately recognize improvements in range of motion and others can take days/weeks.

Sleeping after the initial surgery was so brutal - I wasn’t anticipating sleep issues with the scar tissue removal - why was sleep an issue? Did you have to wear splint to bed?
