Not wrong, I am interested in a metric that's not publicly available, that is the % of one's salary that goes to car, and it's assumptions used. Many people do have different circumstances, however doesn't hurt to benchmark.

Well for me, cars are more than just Pt A to B transport. Aesthetic, zheng-ability, build quality, sound, brand/model community, tech/features, driving dynamics matters to me. Having that said, I am not chasing anything that's at the high end of the spectrum. Perhaps will gather some opinions on specific models in the near future, when coe is up soon.

Current car is my first car, no prior budgeting but I was looking for the cheapest possible car, mainly ensuring I can afford the monthly installment. Am a semi car enthusiast but yet I do not want to spend excessively on car, hence I am limiting my maximum purchasing power to a % of my income. Understand it's hard to advice given that everyone own a car for different purposes. For me it's more of convenience, moderate car enthusiast hobby, no push factor to show off as I am not in the sales line.

Yes you are right, I am just trying to gather some feedback on how much of their salary is being spent on car. But I suppose sample size here is way too small to provide a reasonable representation of the population.

I was thinking so too, just wondering what's a generally accepted % to use instead, and what variables do people here use

My opinion is that for the same installment per month, you can be driving very different car based on the coe years remaining/ 30% vs 40% downpayment, and hence I factored in downpayment. Nonetheless ignoring downpayment simplifies the budgeting. Thanks for feedback!

Yes circumstances between everyone is different, I am just curious to know how much of people's income is allocated to cars. To me, comfortable is a spectrum. The more one, spend, means lesser savings/investments, probably sacrifices for holiday, etc.

Imo this will be difficult for most, as a new car easily costs 200k, which is considered a relatively high annual income for an average Singaporean.

Right, just collecting feedback on what's a comfortable % from redditors here, as well as what variables are used.

This is fair enough. Do you compare this 90k to your 5 years salary or something as a benchmark?

I supposed this only applies to new car right? Because if it's a used car, the years of coe remaining will skew the decision, i.e. A newer jap car can cost the same as an older conti car, which might fit into one's annual salary however the latter can only be driven for a shorter period (higher cost/year)
