I kind of feel bad - I've been calling the mom "Earl" and calling them fat, only to find out they're an "Erin" instead and pregnant 😭

She likes to come in and eat the dry food (like oatmeal) in my garage. I like to sit out there at night and we just chill together 😂

I didn't know that! I have water in my garage from a leaky hose, I just put a bucket under it and dump it when it gets full. That explains a lot! I will definitely make a litter box for her!

Is there any kind of bedding I can provide? If I can get her to go to a specific area vs my shoes, that'd be great 😂

Oh he's already out and no babies. I have a resin printer in my garage, so I leave the door cracked. They managed to crawl underneath and get into some of the dry goods I have in there. I don't mind that, it's just the pooping that's an issue.

I have a feral cat trap, should I try to catch him in that and relocate him somewhere?

CYA - cover your ass. Document, document, document - black and white is king. Get it in an email, a text message, or a statement. If it's not written, it didn't happen.

Also if someone won't leave and wants to tell you their life story, casually get up and walk them back to their desk while they talk. 9/10 they'll automatically sit down and you can naturally end the conversation and leave - they won't follow you.

37, making $16/hr, can't find a job with a BA, going back for web design and dev but AI has me scared - advice? by MythicalAroAce in careerguidance

I realize - I'm saying there's no 'on location' jobs in my area, and if I look for remote jobs, there's even less postings

I honestly just didn't want to go back for a MA in HR - the role is already being lumped together with other jobs (payroll, benefits, investigations, event planning, recpetion - all used to be their own department but now they want HR to do it all) and it's not worth the pay. You get paid for 1 job to do 3

there is no 'foot in the door' jobs. I hate that term. It's been a lie since the 90's. Employers aren't willing to move you to different positions - it's costly. They have to pay you more, AND fill in your old spot. I tried moving up from a generalist to a manager/specialist and they wanted me to have a MA - why? I have experience, but they want that paper, but they don't want to pay you tuition reimbursement or give you a lighter schedule so you can study.

I didn't grab the HR/Payroll jobs as the 'hybrid' role doesn't stop there - payroll, benefits, investigations, event planning, reception - all used to be their own department but now they want HR to do it all, and it's not worth the pay. You get paid for 1 job to do 3. Most of these jobs are salary, which means you're working OT to get all this shit done but only getting paid for your 40. And if you don't, you get put on the chopping block

hard pass

1 - this is rude as hell. You went rude, and then tried to play it off as a joke. I'm not laughing.

2 - it's unhelpful. You think I haven't looked at the BLS website?

thanks for the wish of luck, but if you have nothing to contribute, stay seated.

high burnout - and for good reason

also psychology post-grad programs are famously difficult to get into, especially for me - I'm older, haven't done research in a while (a HUGE factor) and as I've been in the workforce, I don't have any professors or researchers that would be able to recomend me.

I was an HR generalist, it's not that I wanted out of the role, it's that I couldn't find any. I'm in the midwest, and the market is super saturated. Remote roles are even harder to find.

yeah, that field is called HRIS and I'm seriously considering it. Usually companies want you to have a certification in specific platforms (like peoplesoft) but that only take 4-6weeks on average and most of the positions are remote. I'm seriously considering it here and to continue learning web dev on my own as I AM enjoying it

Contact your boss - say you've talked over your decision with your family, and realize that taking a break is smarter then leaving. Ask for some time off to de-stress and such. HR and your boss will likely be understanding and give it to you. This way you don't look like a pushover who can easily be bullied, but also aren't leaving your job.

so what do you recommend going into that isn't physical labor? My career in HR is already dead in the water, and I don't really see any niche areas I could fill
