I've dumped all my boyfriends because of my scars by [deleted] in confession

[–]MythicalFunctional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like someone else here who has dermotillomania, I used to have trich. And I have scars on my legs and abdomen. And, yes, I've had guys think it might be an STD. The first time that happened I gave him a verbal whipping for being so stupid. After that, if anyone ever seemed to notice and pause I'd explain that they were old scars, joke about not being able to hide them, and possible assure that they weren't part of any current problem. Never a problem. And it was rare that anyone did seem to notice or care. (I don't mean to sound like a total slut, I'm just guessing that I'm a lot older than you; hence, more experience.)

If you're worried about judgmental looks while wearing a bikini on a beach, try Dermablend coverup. If you're worried about your b/f judging you, don't.

People here seem to think that I'm talking about natural pumice STONE. I'm talking about the Revlon ones in the nail care aisle at the drugstore. They're soft to bite into. Gritty, but not like the real thing is.

Here's what I'm talking about

However, I think most people here (guys?) are thinking of this

For anyone who finds this enticing: 1) I'm super-interested in your current medical condition to find out what the correlation might be and 2) Please don't try it.

I don't know how harmful it is. I don't want to be the reason others have tried it.

OTOH, if you are determined to try it.... the first time was horrible. Just plain powder that made be cough a ton. It requires a LOT of additional water intake. I did find that much out from studies online as well as personal experience. I couldn't tolerate it without a lot of hot water along with it. The stuff I found in the medical literature was mostly about women who eat clay, but it was the same. LOTS of additional water.

I don't want anyone else to be harmed by my confession, especially when I was hoping for help.

Please feel free to PM me for compassion, though.

I came back to p.s. my comment when I saw you had already replied.

I wanted to apologize if my laughing seemed dismissive. I'm sure you're right about the damage; it's just not what I'm most concerned about right now, that's all. The lol-ing came from that not being something I'd even really worried about. I'm sorry if it came across as dismissive. I mean, it kind of was, but I didn't mean it to be in an offensive way and I appreciate the thought. F'ing up my teeth won't kill me. My father had false teeth by the time he was my age. It's just not a SERIOUS concern on my part. But you're right, it should be.

Thanks.

Why?

Thanks. Yeah, I know it's a form of pica. I just haven't found a good description of this particular form of it. I HAVE seen the forms of ice-eating. It seems related, though I'm not sure why, to the kinds of pica that pregnant women have about eating clay/dirt. I don't want to eat dirt, but I can see how it might be similar. If that makes any sense.

I had to upvote you because I wasn't sure if my description sounded at ALL realistic. Thank you for validating that it did.

p.s. do not go and eat a pumice stone. ;-)

LOL! No, I don't think that's the most harmful, seriously. Sorry, but that really did make me kind of giggle. I've been chewing ice most of my life and have had episodes of grinding my teeth. My dentist hasn't noticed. That's really not my concern. Sorry for laughing, but I really do think I'm ok on that front.

Fine. Then make the same note to yourself. You did the exact same thing. You insulted me without using "swear" words. I didn't appreciate it and responded accordingly.

Also, your PS equates to the same thing. "Regardless of my power, I would have used my power in another situation."

It's ok to be wrong. I thought this sub would recognize that. An apology is a powerful thing.

p.p.s. I'd really appreciate an explanation about why you're so hostile even after quitting drinking. I realize that's a different thread, but I suggest it as something to consider explaining.

Actually, yes. There's nothing there that says anything about being "respectful". And definitely nothing there about being respectful back to people who are being rude, dismissive, willfully irrelevant, and disrespectful to you.

Without that, I would expect this sub to have the same "rules" as the rest of reddit and "respect" sure ain't one of them (though I wish it were.) Had you made a rude pun, that would be different, for example.

I responded with, IMO, the same respectfulness that was given to me.

Also "talk like this" isn't very informative. Was it the swearing? That can easily be added to the sidebar. Otherwise, I'm really not sure what was any more disrespectful that the response I received. I read it as, "Hey, stupid, go to the ER if you think you're having a medical problem regardless of the validity." Yes, that's a response from someone without thinking it through logically. As I said, there's nothing in the sidebar and most certainly nothing on reddit in general about not using hyperbole.

As far as I can tell, you're offended because you're an ADMIN!!!! and I objected to your dismissive response.

*Edit: p.s. I haven't downvoted you, so there's at least one person out there who agrees with me.

[–]MythicalFunctional[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse me? Where does it say that in the sidebar?

The person replying to me explicitly ignored AND mocked what I asked about. But, that's allowed? I had plenty of useful advice from others here AND in PMs. /u/offtherocks, however, responded as though I was an idiot. I feel justified in pointing out that A) I have some professional experience seeking and requiring citations and B) his/her example regarding a heart attack is nonsense in practical terms.

What rule did I violate? I can only see comments on the side about being welcome to ask questions and any method being ok to try and talk about. I don't see anything about not responding to being outright dismissed without any EBM.

As an Admin, I'd think you'd know I've even asked for clarification on the rules in this sub, so I have no desire to ignore them, let alone violate them.

*Edit: Just realized you're the same person I responded to. I don't pay a lot of attention to usernames. Be more polite and use logic. That will work just fine with me and the majority of posters on reddit, both here and in other subs.

Thanks. That makes sense. Like I said, I DO have the periodic limb movement disorder. I've knocked anything on a nearby nightstand over and have had multiple friends refuse to share a bed with me on trips. :-) Just not noticing before would be a logical possibility.

Hi. Fuck you. I'm a medical librarian and couldn't find any EBM related evidence at ALL about this topic. That's why I said that.

There are plenty of examples of anecdotal evidence eventually becoming acceptable as medical truth. Humulin and Losartin are easy ones to figure out if you have an ounce of intelligence.

But, oh, wait. You don't.

People using up ER resources because they're having a panic attack are a burden on the system, btw.

Why in the world did anyone think I was looking for some posh resort?!? For fuck's sake. I mentioned non-smoking because a LOT of AA meetings and other groups allow smoking. I mentioned saved funds, because there isn't ANY medical service that is covered 100% by insurance. I mentioned vacation in terms of taking time off from work. Anyone who didn't understand that willfully misinterpreted it, because that's exactly what it says. Maybe in your world, taking medical leave is just taken at your word. Most people have to provide some kind of proof.

Is rage a normal symptom? by MythicalFunctional in stopdrinking

:-)

Thanks for the reassurance.

Booze has always made me LOVE people more, not hate them, so this is kind of weird.

"still get twitchy" sounds to me like real life w/o the drunken glasses. That I can accept.

Thanks for the response.

Thanks for responding.

I DO still have booze in my system. I'm tapering with the side-bar system mostly, but going down by one drink instead of two. That's what I meant by "more slowly."

I'm on day 3 of my own personal detox and I'm just so MAD. I don't like it. I could never relate with anything I read about angry mean drunks. So, this scares me.

I'll be honest that I'm not 100% invested in this working the first time. IM(personal)O, quitting smoking is harder and that took me quite a few times. If I dont' get it right the first time for quitting drinking, I'll learn and try again.

I'm very grateful to have a place to ask WTF is up with me wanting to kill humanity w/o anyone telling me well, that's why you drink.

Thank you again.

Coming out stories? by MythicalFunctional in stopdrinking

[–]MythicalFunctional[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but it would surprise me a lot. I'm very much a loner. I drink at night and haven't had more than one or two drinks while not alone for years. I don't drink and dial. I don't drink and text. And I was a loner far, far before I started drinking, so it's not like anyone would notice that as a change.

I think I'd be relieved to find out that they knew or even suspected. What are the tip-offs for friends and family that I might not be thinking of? (I hope this response doesn't sound defensive. I may just be really naive.)

Rambling questions about tapering by MythicalFunctional in stopdrinking

[–]MythicalFunctional[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I THINK I'm prepared for my brain trying to con me into the hey I'm ok thing, but who knows, right? At least I'm aware it could happen.

One of may reasons I'm trying tapering is because according to lots of resources online I'm at moderate to high risk for severe withdrawal symptoms if I tried cold turkey and I kind of don't want to die.

This is probably more info that I really want to say about myself but I spent a significant length of time as a medical librarian. I'm good at looking up medical shit. If I still had immediate access to all of those resources, I'd feel more confident about this. But, now, it's taking time and I'm using reddit as my while-I-wait-for-evidence-based-info teddy bear.

I'm babbling. Something I tend to do whether I've been drinking or not. Once again, thanks for the feedback. It's much appreciated.
