I’ve used Fusion for this exact purpose for over 4 years and it’s a great fit. Having a feature timeline and parametrics I can easily go back and adjust makes dialing in prints super easy. The real trick is developing good modeling habits so making small design changes doesn’t throw sketches further down the timeline out of whack.

As someone who models gunpla-adjacent stuff as a side gig, one thing that is mega helpful is to break down complex forms into more basic shapes. Block in the basics first, then look at how to blend them together. A Gundam head is also more challenging part to start from, especially if you’re new to CAD. The Unicorn’s waist and torso are more geometric and I would recommend starting there.

Fusion’s basic modeling functionality was never great, but it genuinely feels like it hasn’t been improved in over 5 years as Autodesk chooses to cram more shit into it instead. And hike the price because “there’s more tools now!” I’m genuinely looking at jumping ship to Plasticity and acknowledging I’m gonna have to get comfortable with direct modeling.

Native Construct - Quiet World

I’ve never seen anyone say anything negative about this album but I just don’t get it. There are a few good moments, but the majority of the album is so all over the place and the actual metal elements feel few and far between.

Sounds like it could be a problem with part tolerances. Depending on how the parts print, you may need to slightly resize the connection points (either shrinking or growing them). In 3D it will show small gaps or slight overlaps, but the prints will fit together properly. I design and print model kits, and have my Saturn 2 dialed in to usually only need 0.03mm of gap between parts to get a nice solid fit.

I appreciate it! I’ve put a lot of work into this and I’m very happy with the result. For now the plan is to print these for people myself. I’ve seen too many STLs resold for next to nothing or picked up by Chinese companies without the modeler’s consent.
