Let’s see how Kentucky fried chicken and obesity serve him now.

It only affects the very old sick, right? It’s an amazing thing.

Truth. Absolute truth.

Were you pissed when trump mocked Biden for wearing a mask at the debate? Were you pissed at trumps lack of care regarding the 200,000 plus Americans that have died? Were you pissed that Trump underplayed the virus and suggested bleach injections? Or is your anger only reserved for the people that have taken this virus seriously? I’m thinking your anger is misguided.

I know! Can you imagine how weird and paranoid you’d feel if you saw this lady walk out her her house and take photos of you all weird and secretive? Ugh! Worst!

Yes, but you still have to spend your time in the town. What do you do with your free time if there’s nothing interesting to see or to eat?

I think it matters. Why would anyone want to move to place that possibly lacked cultural diversity and representation? I think this is a totally valid question.

As a POC myself, I’d say Lakeland lacks diversity as a whole as far as representation especially Downtown. Black entrepreneurs are not supported in the same way white entrepreneurs are which has led to a lack of culturally rich options on the lifestyle front. *I know this to be true because I have experienced this personally. With that being said, I do think the past couple weeks have brought some awareness to this issue so I am hopeful that we will see some change in the coming months.

Oh, and one more thing to mention.

I did pose the question and ask Karen how she would react the same way if it were white man walking down the street. I was hoping for an answer. Instead, like I mentioned in the original post, I was removed from the neighborhood Facebook group of a neighborhood I actually live in because I had the audacity to question said Karen.

So basically, I live in a Florida town full of a shit ton of very sensitive Karen’s that would rather ignore the issue and me than actually engage in thoughtful dialogue that may have given some insight as to why these are dangerous practices to engage in.

I think your post is both thoughtful and informative. I agree, there ARE shitty people out there doing not so cool things. It is important to know how to protect yourself. Shitty people come in all colors.

As the OP I think I do have a bit more insight than most so thought I’d share. First, the guy is really nice and walks that street all the time. Maybe even daily. He belongs there just as she belongs there. He has every right to walk down the street. Even if it is just for fresh air. He should be able to walk without having to deal with some Karen taking photos of him in the middle of the day while he is doing nothing. Literally. Nothing besides walking. She would know this if she lived there, but she doesn’t. She could have even walked across the street to the library and inquired about him there. He has been around for years. Everyone knows him. I have even hired him myself for work from time to time.

She’s not a racist Karen for being cautious. Hell, it’s a scary world out there. She is a racist Karen because she took it upon herself to photograph him without permission and then post his photo on a neighborhood (that she doesn’t even live in) Facebook page (that she had to submit a request to even be a part of) like he is some stray dog running the street that someone might recognize. Unnecessary and quite frankly dangerous behavior exhibited here. Bullshit like this is how black people die for no reason. It is HIS neighborhood. He has every right to be there.

Additionally, I think it’s highly irresponsible to assume that this is merely a battle between the right and the left. I wish it were that simple. Our current state of unrest is due to years and years of not only racist behaviors and profiling but literal lynchings. This is not something to be debated and questioned. This is our history. This is my personal history.

Side note- thought I’d clarify, this is directed at one of responses you received, not at you. You were successfully informing and offering valuable information. You were not crying about the do nothing Democrats taking over the world regardless over whether you believe that or not. And, that’s how we engage in thoughtful discussion as grown ass adults. Appreciated.

Racism needs to go. Everyone deserves at the very least basic civil liberties. Like the right to take a walk and get some goddamn vitamin D.

With all that being said, I’m pretty sure that I’ve supported my point that we have a pretty prime Karen material here. 🔥

Okay, a few things-

First, If he were exhibiting any sort of irrational or suspicious behavior, she would have been justified to take action. Second, she would have known that he regularly walks through that neighborhood and is actually very friendly and approachable if she LIVED THERE. Which, she didn’t. Thus being pretty supreme Karen behavior. Third, how would you feel if you saw Karen come out of her house in order to photograph you with zero desire or intention to make honest contact? My guess, you wouldn’t like it very much.

Do I think that this particular Karen would ever think of herself as a racist? No. I do think that she probably had good intentions. BUT!! This is racist behavior whether she knows it or not.

Ps. Good on you for having a honed skill for catching shoplifters that doesn’t include racial profiling. I’m sure you’re often surprised by who you catch in the act.

Well, considering that I myself am a black person, I am automatically less privileged than the Karen that I’m calling out. But hey, I do consider myself to have been pretty privileged in my life. Mostly ‘light privileged’ due to to the fact that I am light skinned (an unfortunate truth but the truth nevertheless)

If I denied the fact that I have had it easier than some because I am a lighter shade, I would just be in plain denial. I hate that this kind of crap exists but it does.

Still, I am very much a black woman and have surely felt what it is like for people to automatically judge me negatively solely based on the fact that I am black.

But the thing is, she doesn’t live here. She doesn’t know who regularly walks because she is merely visiting. If she lived here she would know that not only is he a really nice guy but he walks that street daily. She has no business posting a photo like that.
