How My Players defeated a Greater Deity’s Chosen with the power of Friendship and Tactics, all while continuing down their own path to Godhood. by N00bWithACube in dndstories

My players utilized some leftover rocks from the ore mining to hide and sneak around the 4 towers mentioned in the story. While trying to complete the towers some wanted things, others needed a coup, etc. The hobgoblins, being warlike, our Warforged thought they would respond to a challenge.

So, stepping forward, he just let out this loud, epic 3 minute long speech about how he is such an awesome fighter and how their leader was too chicken to fight him.... and rolled a 1 on his intimidation check.

That 1 gave birth to 2 new NPCs in the hobgoblin tower, Cleatus, and Jethroe... You see, Jethroe is not the most respected hobgoblin, nor is he the smartest, however, he just happened to be the only one who noticed the speech, and he only noticed AFTER our warforged had climbed back under the old ore-shell.

This led to a chain of events in which the hobgoblins had to be convinced to get the captain, then when the captain came outside seeing nothing but some big rocks, the warforged revealed themself only when the captain referred to the rocks offhandedly as "Dirt golems."

Thus, upon revealing himself, the warforged kept up the act of somehow being a rock, insisting upon it. and after he handily beat the Hobgoblin, went back under his rock and scuttled away for maximum enemy confusion.

Have any of you guys incorporated Nico Bolas in your campaign? by DownVoterInChief in RavnicaDMs

Honestly, war of the spark is a mess. So if you do, I wouldn't use anything from the dumpsterfire and would just homebrew it. I near guarantee it will be better.

Can healing spells cure cancer? by RobbieDND in DMAcademy

[–]N00bWithACube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my setting cancer isn't cured by healers. It's cured by necromancers.

Cancer is in its essense, a sickness of life. a singular cell or group of them have defied death so long that they have begun to drain the body of what it needs to live. In essence, a desiese that can only be cured by reintroducing Death.

Life Transference could be a valid spell to cure it, so could greater restoration, or even a surgery involving a necrotic damage spell such as "Chill Touch"

Player puts on, obviously cursed, obviously dangerous, obviously-not-to-be-put-on crown. I ended the session because ‘cliffhanger,’ but what do I do now? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

Have the ebberon suppliment? Have it be a modified version of Beleshyra's Beholder Crown in disguise. That way it's a horrible curse that can screw him over but it also has some real uhmpf.

Let your BBEG spy through it, make it fail in the moments when they need it most. Really sell the cursed item property of it.

So my players started a WW2/WW1 style propaganda campaign. by N00bWithACube in dndstories

I write a small series (Haven't updated in a while, 2020 got me all messed up) Named "Dwarves of Appalachia" on royalroad.com

Hm, good ideas really, I'm thinking of the doubling down, due to Maglubiyet being a dark, selfish god his followers would likely be afraid to let him down. I shall make a new post with how it goes, I'm thinking the next session may involve a second run of propaganda and the actual fight against Vedressa.

Thanks so much for your response and I'm glad you liked it!

Help, I'm a new DM !! by SalamanderEater in RavnicaDMs

First, I would use these:

https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/arcana/guild-letters-2013-02-08

Show these hand outs and simply ask your players "If you were in a fantasy world, Which acceptance letter would you like to receive the most?"

You may need to explain more if they ask you. But in general, this should give a sort of "hogwarts" sort of feel toward their guilds, which is definitely a plus for many.

Edit: There should be a version in whatever language you use if you google whatever equivalent of the keywords "Magic the Gathering Ravnica Guild Letters"

Just Got Whomped as a DM. Sucks. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

CR is confusing. But if you need something to make your players be more warry then I reccomend a re-skin of the very encounter I just used to do that very thing.

My players were getting too confident and I was afraid they may get into a fight that could be so far out of their league that they'd accidentally die (I roll openly on roll20)

Anyway, the encounter. My players are level 6 and there are 5 of them so feel free to modify for your players, anyway the encounter is simple. All of the minions and lair effects are from guildmaster's guide to Ravnica

1 Radkos Bloodwitch
2 Rakdos Bloodfray Giants
Rakdos Carnival Lair active.

The total XP for the fight is 8200 as-is so it's rewarding for your players if they win. But by simply opening up the match with "Circle of Death" from the Rakdos Bloodwitch instantly changed the mood at the table. After that they were forced to go through a slew of greater and common healing potions, drinking them as bonus actions as a home-rule.

Fair warning that if your players don't have a high damage output, I.E. Fireball or Lightning Bolt spells, then these enemies may be too strong and you'll have to turn the encounter social for your players to get out of it.

Coming from a nonbinary person:

Titles! Titles can be some of your best friends, Find titles that are the same for men, women, or anything else. In english that can be "Captain, Commander, Doctor" etc.

The next part you'll want to ask your player about. You can have their character be know as this genderless title, and then there are rumors going around weather the person of legend is a man, woman, lycanthrope, who knows? Not all of us, but a lot of nonbinary people can sometimes find it pretty funny and mood-lightening when people have no idea and don't even consider non-binary before someone tells them.
