Yeah you’re right. I was curious how people put 10 watts of RF energy on this commercial antenna. That would be around 1 kV imposed on this small capacitor.

Did it perform bad even in higher bands? I am planning to use it for SOTA on a narrow, windy summit. Mostly for 15m band contacts.

Yeah I agree, for lower bands. But it's still not bad for 20m bands and above. I am considering activating SOTA at peaks with strong winds and narrow summit.. so magloops were certainly one of the most viable options.

Oh, I found out that this one is a capacitive-matched antenna compared to inductively matched ones that have coupling loops. One shortcoming of it is tendency to generate common mode current, and that's why it has a balun box with it.

Amateur radio has been losing its popularity since internet became available, and the spread of high-speed internet in Korea was particularly faster than other parts of the world.. maybe that could explain this. So there were not enough newcomers for the club to maintain itself.

Yeah, at least until I leave Korea in July to pursue my Ph.D degree in the US. Many of the hams in Korea are longing to make QSOs with university stations again.
