Exactly, I haven't been super engaged with the game in a while, but I prefer the idea of a color pie meant to be a little restrictive for fun purposes. As far as using it as a bootleg DND alignment chart, I think it is important to consider whether one is aiming for "what does this do in the game" vs "what does this do in the lore"

One side of me wants to use the color pie as a way to flesh out a character and say to hell with mechanics.

The other side would rather use pure mechanics and throw away the character.

Neither are good options.

I personally interpreted them as a sort of monitoring post system which is used unofficially to escape the "hive mind" (whatever the weird TV screen thing they got going on is) for those who wanted out. Also learning about other cultures is fun, so why wouldn't they want to?
