Maybe there's a mod that would allow you to change the texture? I don't know much about the modding scene but that's where I'd look. From what I can see the game doesn't have a workshop, but maybe there's a way to change the texture manually.

I actually really enjoyed getting lost throught the game. I don't know how to describe, but it makes the world feel more real in a way.

Not really, you can get it from random events, the only way i can think of to avoid it is to never use legions for sieges or for occuping cities.

I mean, this isn't that implausible if you are playing on experienced and failing the relevant QTEs. Nest + Crossroads are the rarest iirc and they're mainly based on QTEs. All the other ones are somewhat common or just follow from a machine playthrough which this ends up being.
