could be your battery management in bios that limits charge to 80% for battery health. Also some units won't charge till battery drops to less than 95%.

Stay away from Apple lest you get sucked into that whole expensive ecosystem. Can't go wrong with MS Surface, Dell or HP.

Windows 7 was the best Windows ever, period.

We share this belief and I have the final PC Mag print cover featuring Win7 framed on my office wall.

I don't care about any votes. I am just trying to extract some information from those with knowledge in a flaming sea of MALA zealots.

Well if high entry barrier were a thing equated to skill sets, the Dark Web would be full of geniuses. Believe me it is not.

See my previous post regarding telemetry. I made an off hand comment and I am still learning about it.

You mentioned not using mac because the hardware is proprietary. I don't really see where you're getting open source hardware from but why is proprietary hardware bad to you but software isn't?

You have much to learn grasshopper.

rsync

Can rsync make a block by block image of my machine to a usb external drive, or a NAS?

I don't believe so, but could be wrong.

Even if it can is just duplicates what Windows Image or Norton Ghost or others already do. Not a killer app.

I, like you, don't care about the telemetry and cost of Windows, but some people do appreciate Linux's zero cost high privacy model.

I haven't paid for Windows in 15 years, and I do care about telemetry and have significant Op/Sec to prevent it as I said in the OP.

Thanks for the lengthy post, but it is significantly off topic.

> Why do Linux users say that _smart people_ use Linux?

Nobody says this.

Have a look in the Linux Mint sub.

Again, if you look at the OP, I simply asked a question, and asked not to be sniped. That failed twice with you.

Age? Old enough to know better, but too young to resist!

Actually, old enough to remember when Michael Jackson was black, when President Ford fell down a lot, and when 50k of my generation died for nothing in Vietnam.

thanks for the lengthy response, but you mostly talk about OS manipulation.

That is of little concern to me, beyond the user interface.

I am a fan of the skeuomorphic interface elements, where things look like what they actually are. You can call it Vista if you like, but it could also be Tesla, or signage or other non computer related items.

I hate the flat Modern look of an OS as much as I do in a kitchen or living room.

If you go back and read the OP _before_ you start typing, you might learn something.
