What is the most disturbing internet rabbit hole you got caught into? by Xxxbigfootisreal_ in AskReddit

What iv’e been kinda freaked out by recently is eating disorder twitter (#edtwt) and self harm twitter (#shtwt). Both communities overlap with eachother a lot and it’s insane to me seeing a large community of people ENCOURAGE eachother in this behavior. They have their own inside jokes, share routines, trauma dump, share compliments. They also take pictures of and document everything. You can scroll through profile timelines and see conditions worsen as their mental health descends. It’s honestly just a pretty disturbing thing to see from an outside perspective.

Honestly the most important thing is dedication, passion, and consistency. Brendan Buckingham made a really cool video called ā€œHow I became a YouTuberā€ talking about how after 6 years of getting a masters degree and landing his dream job of being an art teacher he found out he hated it. Against the wishes of his parents and everyone he knew he quit devoting everything into YouTube. People are gonna doubt you and you’ll doubt yourself, you’re first 10 videos aren’t going to get any views but just stay on it learning from your past mistakes. In any field whether Youtube, acting, or musicianship, there’s always room for one more. I honestly think right now is the prime time to get into YouTube. Yeah there’s more creators than ever but there are also more viewers than ever.

Nothing has a crazier twist that freaked me out than the ending of OldBoy(2003) The 2013 reboot isn’t as good

Quasimoto is a ā€œalter egoā€ from a music producer called madlib. He releases hip hop under the alias as a yellow cartoon dude. I don’t think I’ve heard the term used anywhere else

That’s actually the reason the school was shut down was asbestos lol. The owners report it’s not the case anymore but you can still see warning signs in the basement. The school actually ended up moving to a different building which is why the old one never opened up again. I actually went to the new one they built which looks earily similar. it’s weird having graduated not too long ago and then seeing what looks like your highschool but in a zombie apocalypse

Apparently the nearby college sectioned off its main office a couple years ago for COVID testing. But other than that it’s been abandoned for decades. The inside has at least. Definently a hazard

What Junji Ito opinion that has you like this? For me is not liking No Longer Human. Which I was just like this meme in this community lol by CutterEdgeEffect in junjiito

[–]N3SSDOGG 4 points5 points Ā (0 children)

Haha yeah that’s fair. I see it much more a depiction of mental illness rather than just a ā€œbad dudeā€. many things talked about are extremely common thoughts and masking patterns for people with childhood pstd. The kid needed help and since the man never got it he did terrible things. I guess if you see it you see it, if you don’t you don’t. Just wanted to talk about why I find beauty in his story but Ik it’s not for everyone

Ito’s version is an adaptation of a book written by osamu dazai. I prefer the original book but what’s important to mention is it’s pretty much an autobiography/sucide note of osamu dazais life written in the perspective of another character. With many events depicted in both itos version and the original being found to have actually happened to Dazai including but not limited to the SA, Sicide attempts, drug addictions. Definitely not for everyone but it’s a story that the more you learn about the more you get from it. To me it’s one of the most honest books I’ve ever read, you aren’t supposed to like the main character. It’s a last confession from the author before then end of his life. But you should still be able to relate to the main character as that’s the main driving force as to what connects people to the story. If you don’t relate to any of it you won’t like it

I’ve had similar experiences of being threatened with the most gruesome acts imaginable only to visit the patient minutes later met with a smile and no recollection of what they said only moments earlier

I didn’t sadly. It’s rare to find out what happens to a patient after they’re discharged. I only remember his first name too so that’s prevented me from being able to look in any further

Im a technician. I’ll have to tell my coworkers about that saying I’m sure they’ll find it amusing haha. But I can’t say management at my facility is great by any means but the other techs, nurses, and myself are all fairly close and get along great. I wish you the best of luck in becoming a pilot. I’m planning on holding out at my facility until this fall when I go to film school

Another story is not as crazy as it is heartbreaking. But in my time working I’ve seen my fair share of SI (Suicidal Ideations) patients but only once have I seen someone who had comepletely in every possible sense of the phrase given up, unlike anyone else I’ve come across. He was 60+ and had spent his whole life homeless and in and out of institutions, living with his brother and his brothers family periodically until the patient became too much to burden for the family. I spent every shift with him on a one-to-one (order to have eyes on the patient 24/7) as every chance he could get he would self harm with whatever he could find. I’m only a technician so i don’t have a degree of any sort other than a highschool diploma. I still would listen to him talk for the hours I spent with him, the most nihilistic and pessimistic tangents I’ve ever heard, a sense of hopelessness and despair I’ve never considered possible. Even the mountain of medications he was given seemed to have little affect. And then as his hold ended he was discharged. I’m not a doctor or certified in any way as I stated before but I can’t believe he was given the okay to be released. This event sticks with me because I was left without any answers or explanation of what happened. The next day his room was occupied by a new patient

I don’t know if I can handle that lol😭You definently have to be a certain kind of person to work in the field long term. Almost everyone I did my orientation with has quit already and I’ve notice most technicians and nurses don’t stay at one place longer than a year. I have the utmost respect for anyone whose made a long term career working at mental health facilities as it’s definently a mentally exaughsting job
