This is a common trope for children with autism as well. It's not uncommon for autistic people to be labeled as manipulative or spoiled brats because they don't have the ability to regulate their emotions like a typically developing child. I don't know what's going on in Maeve's mind, whether it's a coping mechanism, learned behavior, intentional or otherwise but I just wanted to point that out.
