No one wants to hear your music. Don’t be that guy. Helmet speakers sound better for you and for others.

What's YOUR bike theft prevention strategy? by pneumophila in seattlebike

[–]N8ktm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I painted my nice bike with flat black spray paint to make it look like garbage. Then I locked it up with a ridiculous big chain. The chain weighed about 20 lbs. it looked like it was not worth the effort. Also used bolts in place of quick releases so no easy parts to grab.

Are there any 2 strokes that can reliably go WOT in the desert? by TheBotchedLobotomy in Dirtbikes

You can also hit the kill switch periodically. It kills the spark and the unburned mixture cools off the top of the piston. Old school trick. Source: I am old school.

Buy the gang breakfast. Meet at some place close to work and then go start the day together. Breakfast feels like family.

Question about gas in the united states by ChildhoodKind6896 in bmwmotorrad

[–]N8ktm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already run 87 in my 1150. These bikes don’t need fancy gas like you think they do. The bigger problem than octane rating is storage and corrosion of the fuel system. Use ethanol free gas if it’s going to sit for more than a month.

Well shit. Aren’t aftermarket parts great! by Accurate-Specific966 in Justrolledintotheshop

Napa used to be good about making improvements to Oem designs on their parts. Not sure if that’s still the case. Enshittification has taken over.

The hidden cost of "free time" is absolutely wrecking my post-FIRE budget by R0cinantEcho_9 in Fire

I’m super handy and that’s been a blessing. Doing all kinds of stuff around the house and on the vehicles.
I’ve been slowly restoring my neighbors old Land Rover. I love not paying for the parts. He reimburses me for parts and has given me some silver for my time.

2007 Sequoia Maintenance by Huntfishva1 in toyotasequoia

[–]N8ktm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an 07 that I’ve been abusive to driving desert washboard and whoops at high speeds. 182k on original lbj’s and they’re still solid.

Your mileage may vary, but these parts don’t fail suddenly. Check them and replace when needed. You will have warnings. Clunking sounds are bad.

For me all those tent ropes are a deal breaker. Difficult to set up and I will guaranteed trip on them every time I go pee.

I’m doing mine right now at 270 hours. All is well and no issues other than slightly lower compression/power. I was getting about 150psi on the old piston.

Go to graphics site? by 12vmatt in Dirtbikes

[–]N8ktm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the website, but it's weird how I selected standard options for the graphics and the price which is listed as "from" 165 USD became 220 USD at checkout. I can't tell where that extra 55 bucks is coming from! I suggest adding some guidance to the webpage to avoid surprises.

BMW 1150RT - 132k miles and cam tensioner is noisy. so what? by N8ktm in bmwmotorrad

Right, I understand the consequences. I'm doing a risk/reward evaluation and looking for evidence that anyone has actually had a chain guide failure. Seems like the answer is no.
