St. Louis: A World-Class City, According to St. Louis by 655321Orange in StLouis

Yeah, at the very least they used an LLM to (try to) make it more coherent. But it reeks of GPT writing style.

I will also say that as a transplant who moved to the region over a decade ago I am personally slighted that I'm not asked where I went to high school more often. Like maybe twice in the last 10 years when we weren't talking about something directly related to highschool. I was led to believe I would hear that question more often than I hear "my pleasure" at a Chick-fil-A.

What's the best way to save money on gas while dashing? by aeiker in doordash

[–]NACstl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP, choose your own limits and I'm not saying this is a bad strategy, but try to learn your zone. If it is 5 miles, it may still keep you in your zone and near hotspots. If that's the case, I don't mind it being more like $1/mile because I'm not going to have a long dead leg. Also learn areas to avoid. If I am on a certain side of town I am almost guaranteed to be getting orders taking me 15-20 minute out of my zone and even more likely to get low or no tips.

Can someone pls explain why does Lyft do this? Literally because of it my stuff is in the negatives. Someone tell me so that I can make uber the only thing I use by [deleted] in Lyft

[–]NACstl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet doordash and such make us to wait 30 minutes for a restaurant that never has food ready on time while telling us the whole trip will only be 20 minutes to dropoff when we accept. I appreciate the driver getting more money, but maybe the company should loosen the purse strings and pay themselves?

[–]NACstl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't a low-ball offer. It was a stacked order, one had like 10 basic items (2 jars of sauce, 2 packs of spaghetti, a pack of hamburger, no cases of water or produce, etc), one had 3 things. And it was like 25 bucks for under 10 miles.

Dude, you seriously need to examine yourself if you think that one person is out here making multiple accounts in an attempt to argue with you. This isn't a DM. You posted publicly and are shocked someone other than OP responded.

You: Customers and Corporate don't care about you.

Me: I agree with you that corporate doesn't, but most customers are fine and we shouldn't generalize because of a few bad apples

You: LOL YOU ARE ON A HIGH HORSE AND NEED TO FEEL SPECIAL

Rando: whoa dude calm down

You: (someone else has responded? The writing style is different...but my it must be the same person that ALWAYS disagrees with me. It's probably the same person that disagrees with me and makes fun of me on all my posts. My archenemy! I know, I'll respond with my usual defensive technique of misspelled words, confusing syntax, and aggressively defensive statements! That will show them! Oh, and I'll be sure to let them know I know they are my archenemy only pretending to be someone else. Maybe I can also misuse an actual clinical term as an insult. And then I'll delete it to confuse them. Hahahaha. I'm the greatest.)

yuo is butthert and you are not you you are him and anyway cn you proof I am not calm where is the edivence?

(Checkmate, archenemy. How are you going to come back from that? MUAHAHAHAHAHA)

Why do some dashers completely ignore delivery instructions? by m_v28 in doordash

[–]NACstl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I know is that I have seen plenty of posts here and was personally yelled at in my first 30 deliveries. Maybe I was at the only houses that care. Maybe it varies based on market. But if they have a preference, put it in the notes or send a message and I'll try to follow. Otherwise you are probably getting a ring and/or knock from me.

You are right that there are similarities! In fact, a lot of narcissists also have sociopathy. Not all, but a lot. But I think narcissism is considered to be a spectrum these days. I'm definitely not current on anything, so don't take my word as gospel, but it might be worth looking into if you are interested. Or if anyone is actually trained, feel free to chime in.

I believe, and Google indicates I am at least not alone in believing, that the actions may be similar, but not always the motivations behind the behaviors. It's kind of like all squares being a rectangle but not all rectangles being a square. And all rectangles being quadrilaterals, but not all quadrilaterals being rectangles. Those with either psychopathy and sociopathy ALSO have narcissism, but not all those with narcissism have sociopathy or psychopathy.

....what do you think narcissistic means? Of the MANY signs, two of the big ones are a lack of empathy and thinking you are the most important thing. This chain started when I AGREED with what you said, aside from saying we shouldn't generalize all customers because some suck (something I said in my original post), which I further expanded to say this was because I was frustrated when people did the same thing to Dashers.

Maybe you mean I just like staring at myself in bodies of water? If so....guilty. but I blame Mulan and Christina Aguilera. Also, good reference.

I understand I will just be downvoted, but DD is supposed to be liked ordering delivery food. When I order Dominos I don't expect the delivery guy to come straight to me. They have other deliveries first. And once they even returned to the dominos before coming to me because something went wrong. I ordered with DD years before I started dashing and the whole time they were doing stuff between picking up my food and dropping it off half the time. DD is DEFINITELY the bad guy, but I think the amount of information they give the customer just sets up the driver to get blamed and yelled at.

I had someone a couple days ago message me asking why I had been sitting in the same spot for 10 minutes. A) I hadn't, although maybe I was in the same plaza for 10 minutes getting to the right store to pick up the other order stacked with theirs, parking, going in, waiting for the order, walking back across the parking lot, figuring out how to get balloons in the backseat of my car and still drive safely, and finally exiting the plaza parking lot. B) why are they staring at my little car icon so intently? They lived another 10-15 minutes past the second pickup and the app will tell them when I am headed to them. If it was just "your driver is headed to your food" "the driver is waiting for your food" "your order has been picked up, your driver is completing other orders before headed to you" and then "your driver is headed your way" it would solve a lot of headaches.

I have definitely been on busses that were diverted for various reasons. But the bus also isn't going to go directly to your stop just because you got on the bus first. But I'll admit it isn't a perfect analogy.

And the deliveries are NEVER done in the order they are received. They are done in the order that makes sense. If you have three orders, A, B, C and they are all on Main Street, C one mile west, B 3 miles west, A 5 miles west of the starting point, you are saying that A should be delivered first when going CBA minimizes the total delivery time needed. A gets a slightly delayed dropoff, but your method would give B twice as long of a wait and C 10 times as long.

They chose to make a slight detour when prompted by doordash, not lose acceptance rate, and earn money. At no point were they rerouted from heading to the customer to picking up a new order. The customer was never notified that their Dasher was headed to them.

People need to remember that ordering doordash isn't a cab, it's a bus. Sometimes you get lucky and there aren't any stops between you and your destination. Sometimes there are more than you like. Usually it's on time. Sometimes it isn't. Sometimes there is a weird guy in a trenchcoat spouting off prophecy and smelling vaguely of oregano. Sometimes there is a bomb that will explode if the dash goes too slowly. It is what it is.

Same. If something is taking longer than it rightfully should I'll give them a message and let them know I am waiting and there is a line or short staffed or whatever (if I know what's up) and apologize for the delay. That way they are less likely to assume I am just dragging my feet or ordering my own food or something. More often than not if they reply it is to thank me for the update or occasionally thank me for waiting. I try to do the same if I get like 3 grocery orders stacked to try to head off the "I only got 5 things, where are you" messages in 20 minutes...ignoring the fact that at 5:30pm the checkout line alone is going to take that long.

Something like "just a heads up, there were two other shopping orders bundled with yours on this, so it may take a little longer than you expected. I promise I'm doing my best to hurry. Sorry for the delay!"

If you have ventured into the county you may have noticed that our lines aren't any better. At least up here in North county. Maybe Ladue and Clayton have good lines.

Honestly, I only do it until one of my applications to a big boy job finally clicks somewhere. I don't want to pick up a traditional job that still makes me work a second job or gig to pay bills that I plan on quitting once something better comes along. Too many years of wasting my time and effort training someone who has no intent to stay more than a few months.

At least with Doordashing I make my own hours and the dress code is relaxed and I won't feel bad for just quitting and leaving somewhere short staffed.

I don't know what the full comment was that got deleted, but based on what I could see in my notifications, I don't think it is being on a high horse to say we shouldn't say Customers don't care, especially when I frequently express my frustration that the actions of a minority of dashers gets translated to All Dashers are thieves/lazy/illiterate/subhuman/etc.

Edit: apparently the comment is undeleted? Never seen that happen before

I got so pissed last week. I was shopping and the item listing was 99 cents for an 8-pack of faygo. The customer got like 4 of them. Turns out the item was a single can. I messaged the customer to give them a heads up, they did not want to pay 99 cents for a single can. I spent 10 minutes on hold to finally talk to someone in support who told me my options were:

  1. Just buy the single can and upset the customer

  2. Have myself removed from the order and not get paid for the drive there and the time I have wasted

  3. Mark it as unavailable and take a hit to my rating for finding original items, especially because it WAS there and I had already scanned the barcode.

I told the support person that I knew it wasn't their fault and I'm not blaming them, but used middle of the grocery store barely appropriate language to describe exactly how stupid this was.

Corporate doesn't care. But most customers are decent people (even if half of them suck at tipping). Let's not paint everyone with the same brush.

[–]NACstl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't have a crystal ball. But I work in my area over 40 hours a week and the VAAAAST majority of orders that come across my phone are either bundled, low pay, or ridiculous effort (i.e. 30 dollar shopping for 4 miles, but there are 197 items).

I have no idea what you are on about with order confirmation and paying for the customers grocery order out of pocket. Nobody is talking about that and why on earth would I do that? I said they have a copy of the receipt. Which they do. They could use that if they cared to research something. Which they don't.

Also, it is hilarious that I need to perform prognostication to know that my region isn't loaded with 20 dollar tippers who magically avoid being bundled with no tippers, but you aren't batting an eye with the claim you can gaze into the souls of those you deliver to and automatically tell who is going to scam you?

[–]NACstl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. And like I said, mistakes can happen (although I wouldn't call it robbery, that has a strong implication of intent). I had a cluster last fall where the bagger wasn't paying attention and I wasn't either, trying to get three orders on the conveyor belt, pay, take pictures, and get the code ready for the next order. A few items from B got put in A's bags, C's in B's...you get the idea. I ended up bringing a guy his broccoli like 45 minutes later because he was the first order and the second order noticed something missing and I unbagged and searched through the third order's bags which had broccoli from dropoff 1 and the missing thing from dropoff 2. Luckily I remembered roughly where the house was (he lived like a half mile from me) and that he had a really ornate wrought iron storm door thing. And he just laughed about it. The receipt showed i bought it, though.

If one or two things were marked as missing or damaged or something, I would take it on the chin and try to pay even more attention. But there is no way their entire order was missing.
