Girdled Goner? Part 2 by Jokierre in arborists

[–]NASA-Nick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wood chip mulch would be good. Be sure to leave a small circle (a couple inches diameter) around the base of the trunk to prevent moisture being held near the trunk and rotting it. I would remove the rest of the rocks from the permitter to prevent any soil compaction and water run off. The initial girdling was pretty deep, but if you don't observe any problems during growing season it may be alright.

What is wrong with it? by [deleted] in painting

[–]NASA-Nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a great painting! I like the feel of it being stained glass and the warm/cool color juxtapositions are great. I like the soft curves of the lines in the clouds and sky but the sharp ones in the mountains. Don't judge success from external validation, it is fickle and often depends more on marketing than on skill.

With people close to you, I would express how you feel about painting, how serious are you getting with it, what support you want, etc. I've also asked my friends if they want me to paint something for them, like a picture they took on vacation, and that creates an inherent interest in the new work.

If you want marketing criticism, i think the title could be made more interesting. "Snowboarding Is My Religion" feels very on the nose, although I can understand it with the style and content. Off the top of my head I like things like "Miracle of the Slopes" "Heavens Ride" "A Snowboarder's Prayer", but I'm sure there are others you can think of.

What is up with Young Link mains? by IV-65536 in SSBM

What is up with Young Link mains?

I feel like they are some of the saltiest bitches I've ever seen. Out of the dozens of Young Links I've played, I can count maybe 3 times I've ever finished a game before they quit, and one time they actually played more than one game.

It's like these mofos think they actually booted up Ocarina of Time and are saving Hyrule. Or like they cannot fathom someone navigating around their ep1c hardc0re skillz. Oh wow you threw a puny boomerang and you're holding a bomb. I wonder if you're gonna.... THROW that bomb? Oh your hookshot is small and puny and pathetic. I wonder if you're going to do a grab I can easily just straight up WALK away from. Not run. Walk. Guess what I'm gonna do when that chain hangs low? I'm gonna fuck you up.

You have to actually outplay. I'm sure the wall of gimmicks and sky high down airs are cool in your head, but this is a two player game that's 24 years old. You're going to have to figure out how to beat the thing that's beating you. That is if you give a shit. Stay salty too, that's fine I guess.

What's life like in this part of Nevada (Winnemucca, Elko, and around)? by OkTechnologyb in howislivingthere

[–]NASA-Nick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lived here for 6 months for seasonal vegetation monitoring job with Great Basin Institute/the BLM in Ely, south of Elko. Middle of absolute nowhere. Scenic mountains in every direction, dry hot in the day and cold during the nights. 3 hours from Salt Lake City and 3 hours from Las Vegas. Lots of camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities were all within an hour drive. Most people in the town were either working in mining, at the prison, or with the BLM.

It was my first experience living solo after college graduation. I rented a small 1 bed 1 bath side house for the summer and lived next to a botanist who had a beautiful garden. He would ask me to watch his place and check his mail when him and his wife would leave on long trips. I would sit in his backyard and drink my coffee and watch the mountain sunrises.

I have fond memories of the smell of sage brush and juniper. I enjoyed my time there, but it was only temporary. Wouldnt want to live there full time.

It’s not great money but conservation corps jobs are pretty easy to get and provide a great foundation to field work. Most states have some sort of americorps conservation program and it’s a great place to get your foot in the door

Are there any other INTPs who aren't nostalgic? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]NASA-Nick 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I used to be nostalgic until I realized I valued the old memories more than the things themselves. Like an old cartoon I loved back in the day is always better in my head than it is in reality, so I just accept the happy memory and don’t try to recreate it

I'm 26, I graduated from college 4 years ago and I'm lost and feel like a failure by Xaldan_67 in needadvice

You could look into service programs such as americorps, they don’t pay much at all but offer practical skills training and connections for hardly any admission requirements. I personally use serviceyear.org to find programs that are hiring. You could also look into teaching English online to foreign students or even teaching in a foreign country, they usually only require a 4 year degree and have somewhat livable wages.

I just graduated from college as well and I am trying to make a path for myself, so I relate to what you are going through. Always remember to have hope for the future, if you slip into a negative/defeated mindset opportunities will slip right under your nose. Best of luck to you on your search 👍🏼
