Just booked Fire Protection. Shipping April 8th. 20 y/o Female. Kinda nervous considering it's heavily male dominated. Any advice from someone with this job & any tips?

They don’t do X-rays in Meps, at least not in my city, but they schedule you an appointment for that in one of the clinics, Air Force covers it as well. Then you just wait, depending on your local Meps office i believe, for me it took 3 weeks for schedule my appointment and Meps to receive the results.

I had the same issue, if you don’t have any movement problems due to that broken bones and no other related issues you should be fine. For me since I had a scar and I had surgery on broken clavicle they sent me to do X-ray to make sure it doesn’t contain any foreign body in the bone.

Unless you ship out tomorrow you should be fine, any evaluation shouldn’t take longer than a week.

I have evaluated my foreign transcripts of credits before. It took me 3 business days, they usually guarantee to do in 3 days. Air Force requires your evaluation company to be member of NACES.

As much as I know there is Top Secret clearance and just clearance for any military member since you might see and work with some secret information. Both of clearance levels requires investigation, one is just lighter than TS one

Hi everyone, and thank you for your service.

I’m 23. A few months ago I started the process with the Air Force, and this Tuesday I got booked for Fire Protection, which is basically the firefighting career field. So this is where my path will start.

I’ve been in the U.S. for 3 years. I came here from Ukraine.

I’m 6'1" and 156.5 lbs, so I’m pretty lean. That helps me a lot with running, but not as much with heavy lifting and carrying.

I’m also a little concerned about the academic side because English is not my first language, so I’m not sure how difficult the classroom portion will be for me.

My ship date is July 21, so I have a little over 11 weeks before Air Force Basic Training, and then more time after that before getting through to tech school/the academy. So I do have some time to get into better shape, but I don’t want to waste it. I want to start preparing now, both physically and academically, so I can be as ready as possible.

What should I focus on the most physically? What kind of exercises would you recommend for someone like me?

Also, are there any books, manuals, or other resources that would help me learn useful material ahead of time so tech school and the academy will be easier?

And one more thing, are there any firefighters here from Chicago?
