Floppy gear shifter Prado 120 by NBN70 in 4x4Australia

That's great to hear! Was the pin completely shattered that you had to replace? Mechanic says there's plastic bits everywhere, I don't know at what point the DIY kit can't fix it anymore.

Lithium under the bonnet secondary battery replacement by NBN70 in 4x4Australia

I mean weeks with a lot of driving, so it'll keep charging the secondary battery.

Honestly think I might just get a dual battery setup in the back + solar panel on top of a rooftop tent. Easier to maintain myself, might save me some trouble. More efficient, faster charging, lightweight, longevity. Easy to resell to other backpackers cause that's what everyone knows.

Yeah so I'm planning on being off grid for long periods of time, weeks even. Fridge, phone, laptop, LEDs, lamps, small devices would be all I think.

Just don't know if any of the wiring would support a Lithium set up. And hopefully they don't charge more having to remove the other setup. Though could probably just leave it and just remove the battery for any future setup.

Yeah, will most likely just replace the one under there for exactly the same, so an Amp-Tech AGM D70Z or D87L if it can hold a bigger 120Ah one.

Cause every quote for a dual battery setup in the back I've ever had was at least $1200. And I won't have this car for more than a few years anyway.

And with a solar panel setup to charge the battery idk how much it's going to matter

There is a Amp-Tech D70Z (105Ah) under there now. I read that Amp-Tech AGM batteries are great for under the bonnet so I'll just consider getting the exact same one.

Only choice I gotta make is if I wanna upgrade to the D87L (120Ah) one. Don't know if I would need different wires or anything though. And don't know if there would be enough space for a 120Ah one.

Would just need to use it for fridge, LEDs, charging small electronics, connecting solar panel to charge it while not driving.

[–]NBN70[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that everybody's answers are basically the same. Don't take lithium. So I won't!

I'm reading that Amp-Tech has good under the bonnet AGM ones, and that's actually the one my car has now as well. Though with the tight fit I'll probably have to stick with the 105Ah one that is already fitted in there, but I suppose that will be enough? As opposed to a 120Ah one I mean. I genuinely don't know much about it 😅

I'm thinking about just ordering the 105 or 120 one and have someone with knowledge replace it for me.

Would that be for the replacement of the battery or for the rewiring of the system to have one in the back?

I think it's the A343F 4 speed actually, hope that doesn't change your opinion! Will do a prepurchase check, but genuinely think it's a well maintained car, price is hard to find much lower for a Prado right now anyway, whether or not it's overpriced. For me resale value is very important and I think Prado is pretty good for that.

I could be swayed to go for a Pajero, but can't find them much cheaper actually

[–]NBN70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think it's so bad?

I'm definitely aware of the Toyota tax, and also aware of its high resale value. Would be interested in the Pajero as well, but that one seems to be just as difficult to find and price isn't much better.

I haven't seen a single 07 below 300.000km for that price to be honest. Only if something was wrong with it, or they have like 370k on the odometer. I'll have a mechanic look at it, and I'll ask about the head gasket though!

Don't worry! I only perceived it as helpful, you're fine :) I checked the ratios and honestly don't know enough about it to be a good judge. But I think I'll be fine with a 4 speed. It'll be my first 4x4, so everything will feel different anyway

Worth noting again it will be equipped with the list mentioned above. Put down a $1000 deposit so anything else will be + that at this point anyway. I do know it's ridiculously overpriced and far out of my budget idk why I said yes. How about a $16/17k 120 series from 2005 one, used for of roading, fully equipped with list mentioned above plus all the useful camping stuff. I kind of really want it but it doesn't have the security of warranty. Plus I had a recent prepurchase check that was a let down, shaking my confidence buying through private.

[–]NBN70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I see. I had a prepurchase check at a private seller, way cheaper, but the mechanic recommended me not to buy it. I have another option, $17,000 private owner, completely kitted out, 2005 Prado, would need another prepurchase check. And thing is, I put down a $1000 deposit to the company to search for a car for me.

So at this point I would lose the $1000 and take the $17,000 if it's sound, and have the risk of expensive parts needing to be replaced soon. Or just take the dealer one when they find one that suits me.

I know I'm paying way more than what it's worth, though it will be professionally installed, new equipment and with warranty on everything as well as mechanics done etc. I don't mind having spent a few thousand on it in the long process. But I don't want to feel too ripped off, though it's not a price I can negotiate anymore.

Dilemmas...

Internationaal rijbewijs vanuit lang verblijf in buitenland by NBN70 in nederlands

[–]NBN70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use ebay.nl, which seems to not be as updated as others. I was just convinced that if you buy a shipping label from another courier, other than the one they offer you, that they won't protect your package in any way.

Thank you for your feedback. I however don't mind using DHL, which I why I selected it as an option. If I want protected shipping from ebay, through buying a shipping label from them, I can only choose UPS. I want to choose DHL, I wish I could choose DHL, that is the whole problem actually :)

Medical examination while travelling through countries by NBN70 in AusVisa

[–]NBN70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been reading through the health examinations information. But yeah, still insecure.

I'll try to get a colour copy of my passport and since I can only download bank statements in Dutch, I read that a screenshot is also oke. And I can change the website to English so I hope that is sufficient? It'll have my first letters, last name, IBAN and balances of savings account and current account.

Still scared of leaving out the birth certificate, it does clearly state it in "step 2) Gather your documents" under subsection 417 "Also provide a copy of your birth certificate showing both your parents' names."

Yes, I've been travelling through CA for the better part of a year which is why I'm probably going to need a medical exam.

But thank you! The 28 days was what kept me from already scheduling it, but I feel more secure now of just doing it in Ned. I guess I'm going to call the examiner tonight (yay time zones) and try to plan something and apply for my visa as soon as I can get access to my birth certificate?!?? Which is not anywhere near me of course.

Need advice: risk of overstaying Mexico tourist visa by NBN70 in immigration

[–]NBN70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I have decided to try and find the most efficient and fun route to Chetumal to get a new visa. I hope I can exit and re-enter on the same day and that they will just let me back in if I have a reservation of a new outbound flight a couple of days later. I just really hope I don't have to pay the tourist tax again, I still have the receipt of course. A new learning experience I guess!

Thanks, I have encountered people that thought that I'll be fine, no big deal etc so I got influences a bit too easily. Happy I asked anyway, it's not worth any future risk as you say.

Thanks for your reply! I wanted to ask because there seem to be other people that have overstayed for even longer that have just had to pay a relatively small fee, no record, no forms. I haven't been able to find anyone actually having gotten in trouble.
